    Structural Changes in the Cerebrum, Cerebellum and Corpus Callosum in Migraine Patients

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the relationship among the cerebrum, cerebellum and corpus callosum in migraine patients. Methods: This work was conducted with cooperation of the Turgut Özal Medical Faculty, Department of Anatomy and Neurology. Migraine patients were divided into four groups: new patients; 1-5 years; 5-10 years; and, more than 10 years. All patients (n=75) and control subjects (n=20) underwent Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and brain images were processed by ONIS and Image J. Data were analyzed using the planimetric method. Results: Cerebrum, cerebellum and corpus callosum volume were calculated for all subjects. The footprints of the callosum were as follows: healthy control subjects, new patients and 1-year patients: 12.8%, 5 years: 11.7% and more than 10 years: 10.7%. The cerebrum volume was as follows: healthy control subjects: 1152 cm3, 5-10 years: 1102 cm3 and more than 10 years: 1002 cm3. Discussion: The results of our study showed atrophy in the cerebrum, cerebellum and corpus callosum of chronic migraine patients. This atrophy was greater in the patients with aura migraines. Conclusion: Our study confirmed that a migraine is an episodic disease that seriously affects the CNS

    Sonay, Fatma Delihasan/0000-0002-0511-4782; can, safak seyhaneyildiz/0000-0003-2297-9742; Kose, Ozay/0000-0002-3565-160X; KUTLUYER, Filiz/0000-0001-8334-5802WOS: 000339671900013The probiotics are very important for aquaculture because of their role in enhancing the fish health status, improving disease resistance, growth performance, and body composition, reducing malformations, improving gut morphology and the overall microbial balance. the objective of the presently reported study was to investigate effects of kefir as a probiotic product on the digestive and hepatic enzyme activities, as well as glucose level of Coruh trout, Salmo coruhensis Turan, Kottelat et Engin, 2010. the experiment was performed with four treatments: control group (no kefir), D1, D2, and D3 (kefir-supplemented diet: 10, 20, and 40 g . kg(-1) fish body mass, respectively). the activity of: alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotranferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), lipase, amylase-as well as the glucose levels were determined after 4 months. the results indicated that glucose levels (P 0.05). on the contrary, the activity of liver enzymes (ALT, AST, and LDH) increased insignificantly (P > 0.05). in conclusion, digestive and liver enzyme activities were affected by quantitative changes in dietary kefir insignificantly but further research is needed to establish whether the liver and digestive enzyme physiology of Coruh trout can be affected by kefir-supplemented diets in a long-term trial
