CO2 emissions due to the construction sector represent 40% of the total, either directly by the use of the building or indirectly by the emissions incorporated in construction materials and products. It is important to achieve a change in this sector to introduce these concepts in a simple way. There are various tools for evaluating emissions in construction projects. In the present work, the OERCO2 tool is used. This work studies housing projects in two European countries belonging to significantly different regions, Spain (Andalusia) and Romania (Bucharest and Transylvania). Although concrete or masonry structures are mainly used in Romania, due to an increased demand for residential buildings in recent years, a new niche has appeared in the construction sector: metallic and mixed (metal–concrete) structures for multi-storied buildings. For these reasons, a comparison between concrete and metallic buildings can be made in order to highlight their environmental impact. Twenty-four projects are selected from Romanian projects with metallic structures, and Spanish projects with concrete structures. They are also differentiated according to the type of foundation used. As expected, buildings with a metallic structure have more economic and environmental impact than reinforced concrete. The materials with greater impact are metal, concrete, cement, and ceramic products. The potential of the tool for the evaluation of various construction solutions, materials, and project phases is demonstrated

    Get PDF

Social networks offer effective ways to higher education centers to develop innovative training activities supported by the participation and interaction between teachers and students and in the same way to improve their corporate identity, broadcasting and transmiting corporate information. This research analyzes the usage of top 20 Latin American Universities (Sanghai Ranking, 2012) that participate in Twitter by identifying their lists, fans and tweets and retweets. The most significant results show that some teachers use it as a tool that fosters the teaching and learning process via the hashtags, and furthermore, that at the institutional level, universities boost the participation and interaction with the educational community through tweets. The average fans level of the studied universities is 4,772 Twitter users considering tweets of 114 users (2011). The National Autonomous University of Mexico is the one with most (35,679) followers. Almost al of them see the importance of using Twitter, however Twitter is underused as a channel of direct and effective communication. Teachers should be trained to use ICT and social network to discover their educational applicability and to take advantage of interaction time with students. Furthermore, communication between universities and their educational communities could be optimized using Twitter to send effective messages to exploit their databases as a viral distribution channel

ABSTRACT Organizations are subjected to different pressures in order to persist over time, facilitating the emergence of an aggressive type of management that is called Toxic Management, understood as a way of exercising power through egocentric behavior, lacking empathy, ruthlessness and personal ambition. The behavioral characteristics of those who hold this type of management are related to emotional skills, based on emotional intelligence, which is the ability of the individual to recognize and control his own feelings, hold an empathic attitude and manage interpersonal relationships. The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and toxic management among the Heads of the Academic Departments and/or Program Coordinators at the Universidad de Oriente, Sucre Campus, Cumaná. The field research was performed at a descriptive-correlational level. The level of emotional intelligence was measured by the test designed by Goleman, and for the toxic management the test proposed by Piñuel was used. The results show that the level of emotional intelligence of the sample studied is medium-high, while the risk of the job management is moderate. There is a strong positive correlation between the variables studied, indicating that the level of toxicity depends on the  ability of the individual to manage emotional competencies. Key words: Emotional Intelligence, management toxic, university, UDO management.
