Este dicionário bilingue (Português-Latim) é o segundo mais antigo na história da lexicografia portuguesa e amplifica a nomenclatura compilada no dicionário anterior, publicado por Jerónimo Cardoso (c.1540-c-1569) em 1562. A marca lexicográfica "termo do Brasil" no Vocabulario Portuguez e Latino de D. Rafael Bluteau

The aim of this paper is to analyse the lexicographical mark “Brazilian term” in the Vocabulario Portuguez e Latino by D. Rafael Bluteau (1712-1721). This lexicographer compiled, in the form of a dictionary, part of the early 18th century Brazilian vocabulary by including many words related to Brazil (“brasileirismos”) in his Vocabulario, stressing them with a particular lexicographical mark. Besides that “mark”, this paper also analyses the different types of definition associated to it, as well as the sources used by Bluteau

13.1 Orthography and Orthoepy

In 1990, Portugal, Brazil, and the then-five (now six) African countries whose official language is Portuguese (Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola, and Mozambique) signed the Acordo Ortográfico de 1990 (AO90), an international agreement whose objective it is to give Portuguese – a pluricentric language – a common orthography. The AO90 has gone through some difficulties and is now official only in four Lusophone countries (Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe). However, after centuries without an official regulation, of a unilateral Reform (Portugal), and of the 20th century marked by the disagreement between Portugal and Brazil, the more the political discourse emphasizes the role of the AO90 for the “unidade da língua” and for its international prestige, the more the enforcement of the AO90 in the Lusophone countries suffers from problems or uncertainties. The AO90 is thus a receptacle of graphic solutions that reflect orthoepic differences

13.4 Dictionaries of Language Difficulties

This article provides an overview of the history and the current situation of the so-called dictionaries of doubts and difficulties. These instruments are meant to address the speakers’ “insecurity” concerning specific aspects of the Portuguese language. This concerns both the European and Brazilian norm. The current dictionaries of difficulties will be contextualized within the wider Lusophone tradition. By doing so, the article will present a critical panorama of the most important dictionaries of difficulties published at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century
