A long history of communication, the relation between information and veracity has been a subject many investigators have dealt with. The predominance of the objectivist movement during the 60s imposed a factual view regarding the communication process. With it´s maxima “Events are sacred, opinions are free” the ojectivism assured that the individium does not interfere with the iformation. The information thus became an accurate image of the reality.
The Fraiming theory introduced, against the objectivism principles, the subjective element as a basic part of the communication process. The information is not just a reflection of reality, it is an accurate picture of it. Journalists, according to their ideological, cultural and religious orientations and their personal experiences, do build reality from a subjective perspective.
In addition to the fact that the journalist focuses the information during is usual daily life, the framing concept can be also be applied to the different levels in the communication process, that means that all the elements envolved in the process can give a specific focus en the information.
The Fourth Women International World Conference held in Pekin, in September 1995, constitutes, up to the moment, the last one organized by United Nations in order to specifically deal with issues relating to women. In this paper, objective goals achieved after the conference –among others- as an increase in the international community’s commitment for women’s rol in the society–named empowerment- as well as the systematic integration of the gender perspective to policies –named mainstream- will be exposed. Finally, in order to evaluate the Conference of Pekin, we will analyse the two following monitoring conferences celebrated in New2000 and 2005 in New York.post-print329 K
The research covered in this article wants to present the various theories appeared related to objectivity and their
significance in the communication environment. After answering everlasting questions about truth and objectivity, a
summary covering the different objections to these concepts from the communications theory standpoint is introduced.
It is concluded that neither the positivist objectivism nor the philosphic subjectivism can give the adequate answer to the
problem of objectivity, and the adaptation (eso dice el diccionario para adecuación...) theory is presented as the only way
to establish an appropriate concept about the thruth in the media.post-print278,59 K
Objectivity, a subject that must be dealed with in all journalistic manuales and documents, has become a pure deontological
question. In this article I will stress the need of developing a theorical framework to study objectivity in the appropriate
way. Objectivity is not just an ethic point of view, it is not only a moral obligation, it is fi rst of all a personal cognoscitive and
intellectual attitude. For the mentioned reasons, and given that the moral focus is not enough without other disciplines
support, it is a need to look into the subject in more depth from the philosophical and information theory perspective.post-print84 K
The Conference of Beijing had a media cover without precedents, not only at worldwide level, but also in the Spanish scope. It
was inquired more on this event than on the other three world analogous conferences altogether. But, how did the Spanish press
inform about this event? , Who were the protagonists? It cannot be forgotten that although the topics to debate in the conference
were mainly the lack of rights and the difficulties which women suffer in the world, the Spanish media focused on the disputes
between the European Union – actually Spain, that exerted as spokesman of the European Union- and the Holy See, and the
presence of Hillary Clinton in Beijing. Newspapers chose a “political approach” and they didn’t report about the subjects of interest
for the women. In this article it will be determined the importance the media settled in their agendas to the main characters in
the conference and how they were shown and valued by the media. By this way, through an analysis of the approach that the
newspapers gave the protagonists of the information we will reach conclusions on the informative treatment of the Conference.
The present research paper is a descriptive and critical analysis of
the current beliefs and the ideological bases which underlying in modern and
posmodern society at once and have largely determined the human being and
his way of being and interacting with the world. From modernity we will
analyze secularization, the loss of identity, the configuration of a technical
scientific mentality, the emancipatory will, faith in progress, tolerance and
the bourgeois capitalist spirit. From postmodernism, we will reflect on
emptiness and disenchantment; the time of "myself" and "intimacy" ; neoneocismism
; hedonism and consumption; the weak thought that has
socialized triviality; the new interpretation of the values of freedom, tolerance
and autonomy of the "self", the new paradigms, especially of women, and the
discrediting of family and natality as a gift. It is a critical work that shows
and disassembles the superficial look in which we are located and defines the
present moment, and tries to give a more hopeful and transcendent vision of
possibility of projecting ourselves in the future, stripping ourselves of what
reduces us and shrinks us to build ourselves in a more just world, committed
to "the other" and its surroundings.post-print9632 K
