Interactions of Satellite Galaxies in Cosmological Dark Matter Halos
We present a statistical analysis of the interactions between satellite
galaxies in cosmological dark matter halos taken from fully self-consistent
high-resolution simulations of galaxy clusters. We show that the number
distribution of satellite encounters has a tail that extends to as many as 3-4
encounters per orbit. On average 30% of the substructure population had at
least one encounter (per orbit) with another satellite galaxy. However, this
result depends on the age of the dark matter host halo with a clear trend for
more interactions in younger systems. We also report a correlation between the
number of encounters and the distance of the satellites to the centre of the
cluster: satellite galaxies closer to the centre experience more interactions.
However, this can be simply explained by the radial distribution of the
substructure population and merely reflects the fact that the density of
satellites is higher in those regions.
In order to find substructure galaxies we applied (and present) a new
technique based upon the N-body code MLAPM. This new halo finder MHF
(MLAPM's-Halo-Finder) acts with exactly the same accuracy as the N-body code
itself and is therefore free of any bias and spurious mismatch between
simulation data and halo finding precision related to numerical effects.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted by PASA (refereed contribution to the

Mapping Substructures in Dark Matter Halos
We present a detailed study of the real and integrals-of-motion space
distributions of a satellite obtained from a self-consistent high-resolution
simulation of a galaxy cluster and re-simulated using various analytical halo
potentials. We found that the disrupted satellite appears as a coherent
structure in integrals-of-motion space in all models (``live'' and analytical
potential) although the distribution is significantly smeared for the live host
halo. Further the primary mechanism for this smearing is the mass growth of the
host, which changes both the energy and angular momentum of the satellite
debris. Hence, this must be considered when searching for (stellar) streams
with future observational experiments such as RAVE and GAIA.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, MNRAS accepted - minor editing without changing

Effect of integrated nitrogen management on NPK uptake in basmati rice (Oryza sativa L.)
A field experiment entitled NPK uptake influenced by integrated nitrogen management in basmati rice (Oryza sativa L.) was conducted at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during kharif 2010. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with 13 treatment combinations of chemical fertilizer, green manuring (GM) with Crotalaria juncea, farmyard manure (FYM) and organic preparations [OP (Jeevamrit and Panchagavya)] in four replications. The highest grain yield (34.9±0.54 q ha-1 ) was obtained with combined application of FYM and 50 per cent of recommended nitrogen (RN) followed by GM+FYM+OP (33.7 q ha-1 ) and GM+FYM (33.4±0.99 q ha-1 ). Straw yield (63.1 q ha-1 ) increased significantly (P<0.01) in treatment where FYM combined with 50 per cent of RN was applied. Among different nitrogen management treatments, the maximum N, P and K uptake in grain and straw were observed under treatment T8 (FYM +50 per cent of RN) viz. integrated nitrogen treatment followed by T11 (GM+FYM+OP) and T9 (GM+FYM). Thus, combined application of FYM @ 19.76 t ha-1- with reduced fertilizer dose (50 % of RN) increased the yield and NPK uptake in basmati rice
Effect of season, explants, growth regulators and sugar level on induction and long term maintenance of callus cultures of Ficus religiosa L.
The effects of antioxidant treatments, 2,4-D concentrations and sucrose level were examined in order to optimize the induction and long term maintenance of callus cultures of Ficus religiosa L. from different explants including nodal segments, inter-nodal segments and shoot apices. The explants subjected to incubation for 40 min in antioxidant solution (2% ascorbic acid + 2% citric acid) exhibited maximum percent culture establishment (73.33%). Establishment was reduced when incubation time was longer than 40 min. The explants collected in May and June gave maximum response (100 %). The highest frequency of callus induction (100%) was observed in nodal segments on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 2.26 μM 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 3% sucrose after an average of 8.38 days. Maximum callus proliferation, resulting in fresh weight of 4.29 g after four weeks of culture, was also observed for callus initiated from nodal segments on the earlier mentioned medium. Higher concentrations of 2,4-D and lower concentrations of sucrose were found to be unfavourable for callus induction as well as proliferation. Callus cultures, initiated from nodal segments, could be successfully maintained in healthy and proliferative form for consecutive nine months on the earlier said medium.Key words: Ficus religiosa L., explants, callus induction, callus proliferation, callus maintenance, in vitro
Unique Mass Texture for Quarks and Leptons
Texture specific quark mass matrices which are hermitian and hierarchical are
examined in detail . In the case of texture 6 zeros matrices, out of sixteen
possibilities examined by us, none is able to fit the low energy data (LED),
for example, , ,
, lies in the range (PDG). Similarly none of the 32 texture 5 zeros mass matrices considered
is able to reproduce LED. In particular, the latest data from LEP regarding
rules out all of them. In the texture 4
zeros case, we find that there is a unique texture structure for and
mass matrices which is able to fit the data.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX,some changes in the references, minor changes in the

Cosmology on a Mesh
An adaptive multi grid approach to simulating the formation of structure from
collisionless dark matter is described. MLAPM (Multi-Level Adaptive Particle
Mesh) is one of the most efficient serial codes available on the cosmological
'market' today. As part of Swinburne University's role in the development of
the Square Kilometer Array, we are implementing hydrodynamics, feedback, and
radiative transfer within the MLAPM adaptive mesh, in order to simulate
baryonic processes relevant to the interstellar and intergalactic media at high
redshift. We will outline our progress to date in applying the existing MLAPM
to a study of the decay of satellite galaxies within massive host potentials.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the proceedings of "The IGM/Galaxy

The Moderating Effects of “Dark” Personality Traits and Message Vividness on the Persuasiveness of Terrorist Narrative Propaganda
Terrorism researchers have long discussed the role of psychology in the radicalization process. This work has included research on the respective roles of individual psychological traits and responses to terrorist propaganda. Unfortunately, much of this work has looked at psychological traits and responses to propaganda individually and has not considered how these factors may interact. This study redresses this gap in the literature. In this experiment (N = 268), participants were measured in terms of their narcissism, Machiavellianism, subclinical psychopathy, and everyday sadism—collectively called the Dark Tetrad. Participants were then exposed to a vivid or nonvivid terrorist narrative (or a control message). Results indicate that Machiavellianism interacts with both narrative exposure and narrative vividness to amplify the persuasive effect of terrorist narratives. Neither narcissism, subclinical psychopathy, nor everyday sadism had such an effect. These results highlight the importance of considering the psychological traits of audiences when evaluating proclivity for radicalization via persuasion by terrorist narratives
