An Estimation of UK Telephone Access Demand Using Pseudo-Panel Data

The policy of rebalancing tariffs in the newly liberalised telecommunications market has given rise to concerns about universal service issues. The rise of connection and rental charges threatens to increase the number of disconnections and burden low-income groups in a disproportionate manner. In order to assess the validity of these fears, we estimate a telephone access demand model based on UK houshold data. We use a pseudo-panel technique to account for the repeated cross-section nature of the data. Our reseulats of small, but significant price elasticities with respect to connection charges, line rental, and household income are consistent with evidence from North America. Affordable, Entropy Conserving and Entropy Stable Flux Functions for the Ideal MHD Equations

In this work, we design an entropy stable, finite volume approximation for the ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations. The method is novel as we design an affordable analytical expression of the numerical interface flux function that discretely preserves the entropy of the system. To guarantee the discrete conservation of entropy requires the addition of a particular source term to the ideal MHD system. Exact entropy conserving schemes cannot dissipate energy at shocks, thus to compute accurate solutions to problems that may develop shocks, we determine a dissipation term to guarantee entropy stability for the numerical scheme. Robustness or Efficiency, A Test to Solve the Dilemma

When dealing with the presence of outliers in a dataset, the problem of choosing between the classical ordinary least squares and robust regression methods is sometimes addressed inadequately. In this article, we propose using a Hausman-type test to determine whether a robust S- estimator is more appropriate than an ordinary least squares one in a multiple linear regression framework, on the basis of the trade-off betewen robustness and efficiency. Human Development and Electoral Systems

The aim of this paper is to test if electoral systems and human development are linked. Using high quality data and very simple panel data econometric techniques, we show that electoral systems play a critical role in explaining the difference in the levels of human development between countries. We find that countries which have proportional systems enjoy higher levels of human development than those with majoritarian ones, thanks to more redistributive fiscal policies. We also find that when the degree of proportionality, based on electoral district size, increases, so does human development.

Empathie in der Pädagogik : Theorien, Implikationen, Bedeutung, Umsetzung

Die Arbeit über das Forschungsthema "Empathie in der Pädagogik" leitet mit folgenden allgemeinen Punkten ein: Stand der Empathieforschung, Definition der Empathie, Abgrenzung der Empathie von ähnlichen emotionalen Erscheinungen, Art der empathischen Prozesse und Auswirkungen einer mangelnden Empathiebereitschaft und Empathiefähigkeit.Mithilfe zweier neuer pragmatischer Kategorien für einen pädagogischen Rahmen wird unterschieden zwischen einer finalen Empathieform(im Mittelpunkt stehen konkrete prosoziale Handlungsweisen in der Erziehung, welche nicht rational festgelegt, sondern durch empathische Prozesse verankert werden) und einer orientierenden Empathieform (im Mittelpunkt steht eine empathische Haltung einer Person, mit der sowohl die empathische Person als auch der Interaktionspartner eine im Prozess entstehende Orientierung für eine Selbstfindung auf einer mitmenschlichen Erlebensbasis erhalten können). Die vielfältigen Empathietheorien werden danach unterteilt und analysiert. Evolutionäre, psychologische, psychosoziale und pädagogische (hierbei stehen die Erziehung und Sozialisation moralischer und friedfertiger Handlungsweisen besonders im Mittelpunkt, ebenso die Gedenkstättenpädagogik als prosoziale Form der Immunisierung gegen Unrechtshandlungen) Empathietheorien werden der Kategorie "final" zugeordnet. Empathietheorien, die einen Prozess wie den einer Nachahmung, einer Telefühlung, eines pädagogischen Takts, eines personenbezogenen Erlebens innerhalb eines Dialogs, eines feinfühligen Dialogs zum Erfassen außergewöhnlicher psychischer Phänomene und Handlungsweisen sowie erwarteter empathischer Ausdrucksweisen im Rahmen gesellschaftlicher Bezüge als wesentliches Empathiemerkmal haben, werden der Kategorie "orientierend" zugeordnet. Das Ergebnis der Analyse des Phänomens Empathie aus diesen verschiedenen Perspektiven ist Folgendes: die inhaltlichen Grundlagen in den Empathietheorien, der bestehende Wissensstand über Empathie, die verschiedenen pädagogischen Empathieansätze und Empathiefördermaßnahmen sowie die Ergebnisse der Evaluationsstudien spiegeln weniger Widersprüchlichkeiten wider, sondern vielmehr differenzielle Aspekte der Empathie in ihren systemischen Bezügen. Diese Erkenntnis hat zu der Überlegung geführt, eine neue Empathietheorie, der differenziellen Empathiesystemkompetenztheorie(DESK-Theorie), zu konstruieren, in welcher die differenziellen Aspekte integrativ zusammengeführt werden. Daraus sind folgende Punkte entstanden: Empathie wird als ein differenzieller Faktor sowohl in seinem eigenen systemischen Verhältnis zur Selbstempathie, Sozialempathie und Objektempathie als auch im systemischen Bezug zu Entwicklungs-, Erziehungs- und Gesellschaftsfaktoren definiert. Des Weiteren wird Empathie als ein vielfältiger motivationaler Operator auf der Grundlage Ciompis Theorie der fraktalen Affektlogik beschrieben. auf diese Weise können motivationale Aspekte der Empathie differenziert erfasst und trainiert werden.Grundlegende motivationale Aspekte der Empathie werden als Ausdruck eines Sinn-Attraktors dargestellt, differenzielle motivationale Aspekte der Empathie als Ausdruck eines kontextabhängigen Sinn-Trajektors, nämlich der Selbstempathie, der Sozialempathie und der Objektempathie. Diese Position wird mit Beispielen verdeutlicht. Um diese vielefältigen Empathieaspekte für pädagogische Aufgaben passend und förderlich anwenden zu können, benötigt eine Person einehandhabbare Empathiesystemkpmpetenz. Die Schulung einer differenziellen Empathiesystemkompetenz für Lehrkräfte wird exemplarisch anhand eines allgemeinen modularisierten Schulungsprogramms für Lehrkräfte beschrieben. In einer nachfolgenden Dissertation von Roland Ullmann (Dozent an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg)werden die theoretischen Grundlagen der DESK-Theorie auf ein modularisiertes Schulungsprogramm für Sportstudenten auf einer hochschuldidaktischen Grundlage transferiert und evaluiert. Im Ausblick werden sowohl die grundsätzliche Bedeutung der Empathie für das menschliche Dasein, für die Pädagogik und für die Gesellschaft als auch offene Fragen der Empathieforschung zusammengefasst
