    The graphic project of a festival: the 1972 Pamplona Encounters Catalogue

    [EN] On the 23rd of June 197, the catalogue of the Encounters in Pamplona was finally printed. The festival started on the afternoon 26th of June in the Labrit Pelota Court of Navarre s capital with the celebration of a pelota match and the authorities´ speech. During eight days and before the known festivity of San Fermin, Pamplona turned itself into the capital of art. The article, not only speaks about the event but it s focused on the document designed by Jose Luis Alexanco, which is the advertisement of the celebration that had the power to bind artists of different disciplines and countries together in a Spanish city during the last years of Francoism. The catalogue has turned itself into an authentic piece of art because of its interest and rareness, reveals itself as the graphic project of the imagined celebration.[ES] El 23 de junio de 1972 se terminó de imprimir el Catálogo de los Encuentros de Pamplona que comenzaron la tarde del 26 de junio en el frontón Labrit de la capital de Navarra con la celebración de un partido de pelota y el discurso de las autoridades. Durante ocho días y antes de la conocida fiesta de San Fermín, Pamplona se convirtió en capital del arte. El artículo, más allá de hablar del evento, se centra en el estudio del documento diseñado por José Luis Alexanco, que constituye el anuncio de la fiesta que tuvo el poder de aglutinar a artistas de diferentes disciplinas y países diversos en una ciudad española en los últimos años del franquismo.     A software tool for planning and dimensioning Wireless Networks based on standard 802.16 is presented in this paper. Due to the deployment of communication systems based on this standard, it is necessary a tool which allows an easy implementation and dimensioning of this type of networks. With this tool the user will be able to evaluate point to point and point to multipoint networks, obtaining results such as losses in the link, power received, signal noise rate, coverage or bit rates the network is able to handle. For that purpose, the tool will employ technical specifications of transmitters and receivers, design parameters of the network and different propagation models

    Long Term Evolution (LTE) has appeared with the aim of improving the performance of 3G networks, increasing spectral efficiency and peak rates both at downlink and uplink, reducing latency and increasing flexibility of frequency allocation. Therefore, LTE is expected to have a key role in the development of wireless networks and services in the next years, and, of course, in specific dedicated in-building solutions. Due to that fact, an analysis of LTE performance in indoor scenarios in terms of capacity and grade of service is essential, as well as its comparison with other indoor solutions, pointing out the technical challenges derived, and describing and proposing performance assessment rules to be used in LTE deployments

    En las redes convergentes inalámbricas, el traspaso horizontal entre distintos puntos de acceso de la red WLAN es una gran fuente de degradación de la calidad de la VoIP y otros servicios conversacionales en tiempo real. Esto es debido a que este tipo de redes no fueron concebidas originalmente para soportar este tipo de servicios, y los traspasos siguen un protocolo ¿cortar antes de realizar¿, produciéndose interrupciones en la comunicación motivadas por el tiempo que necesitan los terminales en volver a asociarse a la red. En este artículo se estudia el efecto que tienen el tamaño de la ventana de promediado de la señal, la histéresis variable y el retardo del handover por parecido entre potencia de puntos de acceso de destino sobre el número de traspasos y las caídas de la potencia de señal por debajo del valor de sensibilidad del terminal, causantes principales de las interrupciones en la comunicación, y, con ello, de la degradación de la calidad de las comunicaciones

    [EN] José Moreno Villa fue un escritor, crítico de arte y pintor que dirigió la revista Arquitectura entre 1927 y 1933, realizando una extraordinaria labor de divulgación de la arquitectura moderna. El artículo pretende recordar al personaje, testigo y protagonista de la actividad de la vanguardia en España, a partir de un pequeño artículo publicado en A.     The impact of term fake news on the scientific community. Scientific performance and mapping in web of science

    Nowadays, multiple phenomena have promoted an impact on society, constituting in some cases, not only a contribution of benefits but also of risks. Among them, the fake news phenomenon is considered one of the most burning phenomena today due to the risk it poses to society. In view of this situation, the research community has carried out numerous studies that seek to address this issue from a multidisciplinary perspective. Based on this, the objective of this work was to analyze the productivity and, therefore, the impact of this topic in the research community. To this end, this work advocated a scientometric-type methodology, through scientometric laws, impact indicators, and scientific evolution of 640 publications of the web of science (WOS). The results showed the impact of the fake news discipline today, which is considered an emerging issue that is of interest to many knowledge disciplines around the world. Likewise, the results showed that the publications not only have a focus on analyzing the veracity or not of the news, but that it begins to vertebrate a new line of an investigation directed to the informational education and towards the prevention of the consumption of this type of news through the internet.Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain (Project reference: FPU17/05952

    A Role for Pre-mRNA-PROCESSING PROTEIN 40C in the Control of Growth, Development, and Stress Tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Because of their sessile nature, plants have adopted varied strategies for growing and reproducing in an ever-changing environment. Control of mRNA levels and pre-mRNA alternative splicing are key regulatory layers that contribute to adjust and synchronize plant growth and development with environmental changes. Transcription and alternative splicing are thought to be tightly linked and coordinated, at least in part, through a network of transcriptional and splicing regulatory factors that interact with the carboxyl-terminal domain (CTD) of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. One of the proteins that has been shown to play such a role in yeast and mammals is pre-mRNA-PROCESSING PROTEIN 40 (PRP40, also known as CA150, or TCERG1). In plants, members of the PRP40 family have been identified and shown to interact with the CTD of RNA Pol II, but their biological functions remain unknown. Here, we studied the role of AtPRP40C, in Arabidopsis thaliana growth, development and stress tolerance, as well as its impact on the global regulation of gene expression programs. We found that the prp40c knockout mutants display a late-flowering phenotype under long day conditions, associated with minor alterations in red light signaling. An RNA-seq based transcriptome analysis revealed differentially expressed genes related to biotic stress responses and also differentially expressed as well as differentially spliced genes associated with abiotic stress responses. Indeed, the characterization of stress responses in prp40c mutants revealed an increased sensitivity to salt stress and an enhanced tolerance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. maculicola (Psm) infections. This constitutes the most thorough analysis of the transcriptome of a prp40 mutant in any organism, as well as the first characterization of the molecular and physiological roles of a member of the PRP40 protein family in plants. Our results suggest that PRP40C is an important factor linking the regulation of gene expression programs to the modulation of plant growth, development, and stress responses.Fil: Hernando, Carlos Esteban.     Low X-ray Luminosity Galaxy Clusters. III: Weak Lensing Mass Determination at 0.18 << z << 0.70

    This is the third of a series of papers of low X-ray luminosity galaxy clusters. In this work we present the weak lensing analysis of eight clusters, based on observations obtained with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph in the gg', rr' and ii' passbands. For this purpose, we have developed a pipeline for the lensing analysis of ground-based images and we have performed tests applied to simulated data. We have determined the masses of seven galaxy clusters, six of them measured for the first time. For the four clusters with availably spectroscopic data, we find a general agreement between the velocity dispersions obtained via weak lensing assuming a Singular Isothermal Sphere profile, and those obtained from the redshift distribution of member galaxies. The correlation between our weak lensing mass determinations and the X-ray luminosities are suitably fitted by other observations of the MLXM-L_{X} relation and models

    Identifying Post-Fire Recovery Trajectories and Driving Factors Using Landsat Time Series in Fire-Prone Mediterranean Pine Forests

    Wildfires constitute the most important natural disturbance of Mediterranean forests, driving vegetation dynamics. Although Mediterranean species have developed ecological post-fire recovery strategies, the impacts of climate change and changes in fire regimes may endanger their resilience capacity. This study aims at assessing post-fire recovery dynamics at different stages in two large fires that occurred in Mediterranean pine forests (Spain) using temporal segmentation of the Landsat time series (1994?2018). Landsat-based detection of Trends in Disturbance and Recovery (LandTrendr) was used to derive trajectory metrics from Tasseled Cap Wetness (TCW), sensitive to canopy moisture and structure, and Tasseled Cap Angle (TCA), related to vegetation cover gradients. Different groups of post-fire trajectories were identified through K-means clustering of the Recovery Ratios (RR) from fitted trajectories: continuous recovery, continuous recovery with slope changes, continuous recovery stabilized and non-continuous recovery. The influence of pre-fire conditions, fire severity, topographic variables and post-fire climate on recovery rates for each recovery category at successional stages was analyzed through Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). The modeling results indicated that pine forest recovery rates were highly sensitive to post-fire climate in the mid and long-term and to fire severity in the short-term, but less influenced by topographic conditions (adjusted R-squared ranged from 0.58 to 0.88 and from 0.54 to 0.93 for TCA and TCW, respectively). Recovery estimation was assessed through orthophotos, showing a high accuracy (Dice Coefficient ranged from 0.81 to 0.97 and from 0.74 to 0.96 for TCA and TCW, respectively). This study provides new insights into the post-fire recovery dynamics at successional stages and driving factors.     Assessing post-fire forest structure recovery by combining LiDAR data and Landsat time series in Mediterranean pine forests

    Understanding post-fire recovery dynamics is critical for effective management that enhance forest resilience to fire. Mediterranean pine forests have been largely affected by wildfires, but the impacts of both changes in land use and climate endanger their capacity to naturally recover. Multispectral imagery is commonly used to estimate post-fire recovery, yet changes in forest structure must be considered for a comprehensive evaluation of forest recovery. In this research, we combine Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) with Landsat imagery to extrapolate forest structure variables over a 30-year period (1990?2020) to provide insights on how forest structure has recovered after fire in Mediterranean pine forests. Forest recovery was evaluated attending to vegetation cover (VC), tree cover (TC), mean height (MH) and heterogeneity (CVH). Structure variables were derived from two LiDAR acquisitions from 2016 and 2009, for calibration and independent spatial and temporal validation. A Support Vector Regression model (SVR) was calibrated to extrapolate LiDAR-derived variables using a series of Landsat imagery, achieving an R2 of 0.78, 0.64, 0.70 and 0.63, and a relative RMSE of 24.4%, 30.2%, 36.5% and 27.4% for VC, TC, MH and CVH, respectively. Models showed to be consistent in the temporal validation, although a wider variability was observed, with R2 ranging from 0.51 to 0.74. A different response to fire was revealed attending to forest cover and height since vegetation cover recovered to a pre-fire state but mean height did not 26-years after fire. Less than 50% of the area completely recovered to the pre-fire structure within 26 years, and the area subjected to fire recurrence showed signs of greater difficulty in initiating the recovery. Our results provide valuable information on forest structure recovery, which can support the implementation of mitigation and adaptation strategies that enhance fire resilience.Comunidad de Madri
