Coordinación vertical de la formación en Cálculo de Estructuras dentro del Grado en Ingeniería Civil: Desarrollo de aplicaciones interactivas para la docencia

    Get PDF

Motion-based design of viscous dampers for cable-stayed bridges under uncertainty conditions

    Get PDF
Passive damping devices are widely installed to control the vibration level of stay cables of bridges induced by wind action. The design of passive damping devices must ensure the performance for the all the life-cycle of the structure. In this sense, the design should consider the changes of the pre-fixed parameters and environmental conditions. For this purpose, the motion-based design method under uncertainty conditions is used in this study to carry out the design of a viscous damper. Following this approach, the design requirements are established according to the maximum accepted motions of the structure and the damper device is optimized. In order to validate the method, a benchmark structure is considered. The uncertainty conditions are numerically simulated following a probabilistic approach. As simulation method, the Latin Hypercube is employed. The reliability index is used as reference parameter for the probabilistic assessment.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad of Spain and the European Regional Development Fund under project RTI2018-094945-B-C21Universidad de Sevilla Ref: USE-17047-GSpanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities project SEED-SD RTI2018-099639-B-I0

Piezoelectric lead-free nanocomposites for sensing applications: the role of CNT reinforced matrices

    No full text
Piezoelectric materials are employed in a wide range of sensing devices. At present, the vast majority of piezoelectric materials used for industrial applications are ceramic and exhibit a high lead content in their composition. However, the development of lead-free piezoelectric materials is attracting great attention in recent years, with the aim of enabling technologies that are environmentally friendly. This paper discusses the computational design of microstructured lead-free polymer-based piezoelectric nanocomposites suitable for production by 3D printing. Results are presented and further analyzed for various configurations using BaTiO3 inclusions in polymeric matrices enriched with the addition of carbon nanotubes (CNT). By incorporating carbon nanotubes in the matrix, we anticipate a quite significant improvement in the piezoelectric response of the composite, through simultaneous hardening of the matrix and improvement in its permittivity.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad de España y el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) RTI2018-094945-B-C21Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad de España y el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) DPI2017-89162-

CMMoST2019is a scientific event organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Alicante in cooperation with the University of Seville and the University of Granada, Spain. The CMMoST conference series are devoted to fostering the continued involvement of the research community in all the areas of Structural Engineering, from identifying innovative applications and novel solution techniques to developing new mathematical procedures or addressing educational issues in technical degrees. Former and successful conferences were held in Granada (2011 and 2013), Seville (2015) and Madrid (2017).The present volume is a collection of edited papers that were accepted for oral presentation at CMMoST2019after peer-review. We warmly thank all the contributors, authors, plenary speakers and sponsors that have made possible this event, and whish this conference will offer you fruitful scientific discussions and a pleasant time in Alicante
