The performing body: kinesic codes in wole Soyinka’s drama
The powerful presence of the theatricalised post-colonial body, suggests that
foregrounding corporeality can be a highly positive, active strategy for staging traditional
enactments such as ritual. As a culturally coded activity, dance, for example, has a number of
important functions in drama: not only does it concentrate the audience's gaze on the performing
body, but it also draws attention to proxemic relations between characters, spectators, and
features of the set. Splitting the focus from other sorts of proxemic and kinesic codes, dance
renegotiates dramatic action and dramatic activity, reinforcing the actor's corporeality,
particularly when it is culturally laden. Wole Soyinka's plays, our raw material, abound in
bodies and voices, in spectacle and movement and colour; in multiple settings, flashbacks and
dramatic re-enactments
Relevance of Negative Links in Graph Partitioning: A Case Study Using Votes From the European Parliament
In this paper, we want to study the informative value of negative links in
signed complex networks. For this purpose, we extract and analyze a collection
of signed networks representing voting sessions of the European Parliament
(EP). We first process some data collected by the VoteWatch Europe Website for
the whole 7 th term (2009-2014), by considering voting similarities between
Members of the EP to define weighted signed links. We then apply a selection of
community detection algorithms, designed to process only positive links, to
these data. We also apply Parallel Iterative Local Search (Parallel ILS), an
algorithm recently proposed to identify balanced partitions in signed networks.
Our results show that, contrary to the conclusions of a previous study focusing
on other data, the partitions detected by ignoring or considering the negative
links are indeed remarkably different for these networks. The relevance of
negative links for graph partitioning therefore is an open question which
should be further explored.Comment: in 2nd European Network Intelligence Conference (ENIC), Sep 2015,

Discourses that matter: wole soyinka’s theatre as a form of representing and reading the world
Wole Soyinka is a most significant figure in contemporary world literature. From the perspectives of the politics of postcolonial writings, perhaps the ultimate challenge of the complexity of Soyinka’s works and career lies in the fact that the metanarratives that imaginatively and discursively underwrote the great liberation movements of the twentieth century do not feature in his works in their conventional and familiar configurations. Overarching all the struggles waged by these movements is the struggle for self-representation as the existential and expressive roots of human freedom. The best examples of this structure in Soyinka’s theatre are A Dance of the Forests, Kongi’s Harvest, Madmen and Specialists and From Zia With Love. Soyinka’s critical essays also operate in a great variety of social and intellectual contexts and cover an extraordinary range of topics, including literary criticism and aesthetic theory, theatre and cultural history, political power and ideology, and, more recently religious extremism and nuclear pollution. One “form of attention” which has been influential in the reception of Soyinka’s works is that of professional critics, especially with regard to the institutionalisation of the academic study of Anglophone writings of the developing world in the second half of the twentieth
century
Mixed integer programming formulations for clustering problems related to structural balance
International audienceIn this work, we study graph clustering problems associated with structural balance. One of these problems is known in computer science literature as the correlation-clustering (CC) problem and another (RCC) can be viewed as its relaxed version. The solution of CC and RCC problems have been previously used in the literature as tools for the evaluation of structural balance in a social network. Our aim is to solve these problems to optimality. We describe integer linear programming formulations for these problems which includes the first mathematical formulation for the RCC problem. We also discuss alternative models for the relaxed structural balance and the solution of clustering problems associated with these new models. Numerical experiments are carried out with each formulation on a set of benchmark instances available in the literature
ODAM – The construction of the modern in Portugal: between universal and singular
De uma leitura, mais implícita que explicita, ressalta ainda a importância do debate, pensamentos e sobretudo da produção arquitetónica do grupo ODAM como génese da atual arquitetura portuense.ODAM makes clear the insertion in a modern spirit with a universal and associative face, not only by creating a collective, but for the wide character of its intervention space while advocate of a modern architecture in Portugal. From the associative scope, the teaching, the professional practice to its international exchange, as witnesses the participation of its members in CIAM congresses since 1951, ODAM group makes its statement through debating the counterclaiming of modern ideals in Portugal. However, the most meaningful of this group modern production (manifestos, projects, collective exhibitions and paradigmatic works) is placed more than in its ideal, as per to the great reference groups, in the awareness to the adjustment of the local specific circumstance, poor and peripheral, which acknowledged shared essays of unique added value. This retrospective analysis and critique of ODAM, while part of the wider picture that characterizes the “Arquitecturas en común” of the modern, besides (re)stating its original universal character, in our days comprehended more and more by its diverse speeches, vouches the critical revision of the modern architectural dogmas, at the time, present in the post–war architectures emerging in the European context. Of a more implicit than explicit reading, stands out the importance of debates, thoughts and most of all of ODAM’s architectural production as genesis of today’s Oporto architecture
jovens. Partindo desta assunção, é observada a proposta curricular efetuada no âmbito
No
