Negro sobre Blanco. En defensa de las Cinco Vías tomistas

Resumen: Analizo y critico las principales objeciones que Carlos Blanco plantea, en Las fronteras del pensamiento, contra las 5 vías de Tomás de Aquino. Mi objetivo es mostrar que dichas objeciones fallan, lo cual nos va a permitir traer, a la literatura en español, ciertas discusiones del mundo filosófico anglosajón. Qui és el demos?

En aquest breu article no vull oferir una resposta definitiva a la pregunta del títol. Em quedo satisfet amb definir aquesta problemàtica dins el vast terreny de la filosofia política. Com a introducció, deixeu-me fer servir una qüestió d'actualitat: la discussió sobre la independència de Catalunya. Sopant amb uns amics fa un temps, dos es van posar a debatre sobre el fet que l'Estat no permetés un referèndum d'autodeterminació a Catalunya. Per a un, això era una clara senyal de la demofòbia estructural de l'Estat espanyol; per a l'altre, si es fes un referèndum, hauria de ser a tota Espanya, perquè no tenia sentit que els catalans decidissin, al marge de la resta de ciutadans, sobre quelcom que afectava al conjunt de l'Estat. Òbviament, no hi va haver acord, però quan ja s'acostava l'hora de marxar, el primer (el proreferèndum), va voler tancar la discussió amb una pregunta: "Però, a veure, què és la de- mocràcia?". "El govern del poble", va respondre l'altre. "Ajà!"

Simone Weil contra els partits polítics

En aquest breu article divulgatiu s'exposa el contingut de l'opuscle 'Nota sobre la supressió general dels partits polítics' (1940), de Simone Weil. Weil defensa la necessita d'eliminar els partits polítics basant-se en tres crítiques: (1) Els partits són màquines de generar passió col·lectiva, i això obstaculitza el judici del poble; (2) Els partits es preocupen exclusivament del seu propi creixement; (3) La disciplina del partit respecte la seva pròpia doctrina mata en les ànimes dels seus membres l'impuls per perseguir el bé i la veritat

Recuperar el cuerpo: de Nietzsche a Butler

[spa] En este trabajo repaso la concepción del cuerpo de Nietzsche y de Butler, intentando mostrar cómo cada una nos ayuda a superar un error de la modernidad. Nietzsche nos permite recuperar el cuerpo y contrarrestar el dualismo cartesiano, que lo valora tan poco, convirtiéndolo en una mera máquina. La obra de Judith Butler, por otro lado, especialmente Precarious Life y Frames of War, nos sirve para hacer frente al individualismo, al poner sobre la mesa la socialidad del cuerpo, el modo en que nuestro cuerpo habla de los otros y está expuesto a los otros.[eng] In this article I go through the conceptions of the body of Nietzsche and Butler, in an effort to show how each one of them helps us overcome a Modern error. Nietzsche allows us to recover the body and fight back Cartesian dualism, which values it so little, considering the body just as a machine. In turn, Judith Butler's work, especially Precarious Life and Frames of War, helps us face individualism, making emphasis on the body's sociality, the way in which our bodies speak about the others and are exposed to them

Cristianismo y vida. Ideas en torno a 'Cultura y verdad', de Fernando Inciarte

[spa] Presento brevemente dos ideas del libro de Fernando Inciarte con las que trata de resolver la tensión entre cristianismo y mundo/vida: las ideas de una tregua con el mundo y de una continuidad tras el pecado original. Si el cristiano quiere encontrarse con Cristo en el mundo, tiene que pactar una tregua con él. Por otro lado, si bajo la ruptura del pecado original subyace una continuidad, es más difícil ver las tendencias o deseos humanos como productos despreciables del pecado, como se ve en el caso de la sexualidad.[eng] I briefly present two ideas from Fernando Inciarte's book with which he tries to solve the tension between christianism and world/life: the ideas of a truce with the world and a continuity after the original sin. If the Christian wants to find Christ in the world, he has to agree a truce with it. On the other hand, if under the rupture of the original sin there persists a continuity, it is harder to see human desires and tendencies as despicable products of sin, as it is seen in the case of sexuality

És Hannah Arendt una filòsofa?

Al lector poc familiaritzat amb el pensament de Hannah Arendt, el títol d'aquest article pot semblar-li ridícul o, fins i tot, una mica insultant. "És clar que Arendt és filòsofa!", pot pensar. "Qui s'atreviria a suggerir el contrari?". A aquest lector el pot sorprendre que la primera persona en qüestionar el qualificatiu de "filòsofa" aplicat a Arendt fou Arendt mateixa. A l'inici d'una famosa entrevista que pot consultar-se a Youtube, en ser tractada de filòsofa, Arendt triga ben poc a protestar. La seva disciplina, diu, no es la filosofia, sinó la teoria política, i ella no es considera en absolut filòsofa, ni se sent tal. De la filosofia, diu, va allunyar-se fa temps, precisament amb l'objectiu d'intentar veure la realitat política amb uns ulls que no fossin els del filòsof

High dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation in patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma not achieving complete response after induction chemotherapy. The GEL-TAMO experience

Background and objectives: patients with aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) who do not obtain a complete response (CR) after induction chemotherapy have a poor prognosis. However, provided they are sensitive to the first regimen of chemotherapy, 25-40% of them with a B-cell phenotype may achieve long-term survival when treated with high dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (HDC/ASCT). The aim of this study was to analyze the efficacy of this therapy in the corresponding patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). Design and methods: we retrospectively evaluated the efficacy of ASCT in 35 patients with PTCL from the GEL-TAMO registry, who did not achieve a CR to standard induction chemotherapy regimens for aggressive NHL. Thirty-one patients underwent transplantation after achieving a partial response (PR) and 4 patients were non-responders. Results: following HDC/ASCT, 23 (66%) of the patients achieved a CR, 4 (11%) a PR and in 7 (20%) cases the transplant failed. One patient was not evaluated because of early toxic death. With a median follow-up of the survivors of 37.5 months, 18 patients (51%) are alive and 15 patients (43%) are free of disease. Transplant-related mortality rate at 100 days was 11% and at 5 years the probabilities of survival, freedom from progression and disease-free survival for complete responders were 37%, 36% and 55% respectively. Pre-transplant lactate-dehydrogenase level, age-adjusted International Prognostic Index (aa-IPI) and tumor score correlated with survival. Interpretation and conclusions: one third of the patients with PTCL who fail to achieve CR to the first chemotherapeutic regimen can be rescued with HDC/ASCT. Pre-transplant values of IPI and tumor score risk systems for aggressive lymphomas were useful to predict subsequent survival
