Analysis of Structural Characteristics and Psychometric Properties of the SarQoL® Questionnaire in Different Languages: A Systematic Review
This research and the APC was partial funded by the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership for Higher Education Program (Key Action 203), grant number 2018-1-PL01-KA203-051055. On the other hand, one of the authors of the study (J.M.-C.) has received a predoctoral grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (FPU17/01109).Background: Sarcopenia is the gradual and global loss of muscle and its functions. Primary
sarcopenia is associated with the typical changes of advanced aging and affects approximately 5–10%
of the population. The Sarcopenia and Quality of Life (SarQoL®) questionnaire is composed of
55 items, 22 questions, and is organized into seven domains of quality of life. The main objective of
this systematic review was to analyze the structural characteristics and psychometric properties of it,
as well as to classify its measurement properties, its methodological quality, and the criteria as good
measurement properties of the adaptations and validations made on the SarQoL® questionnaire in
different languages. Methods: A systematic review was carried out in the PUBMED, Web of Science,
Cinahl, LatinIndex, and SCOPUS databases. The keywords used were: “SarQoL”, “assessment”,
“sarcopenia”, “geriatric”, “PROM”, “quality of life”, and “questionnaire”, using the Boolean operator
“AND”. All articles published up to 15 January 2022 were considered. Methodological quality and
psychometric properties were assessed based on the COSMIN guidelines and the guidelines and
general recommendations of PRISMA. Documents published in languages other than English were
excluded, as well as versions of the SarQoL® published in the form abstracts for conferences when the
full text was not available. Results: A total of 133 articles were identified, 14 of which were included.
The evaluated questionnaires and the structural characteristics and psychometric properties of each
of them were collected. Conclusion: The different cross-cultural versions of the questionnaire showed
good basic structural and psychometric characteristics for the evaluation of patients with sarcopenia.Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership for Higher Education Program (Key Action 203), 2018-1-PL01-KA203-051055Spanish Government FPU17/0110
Possibilities of novel strategies of education in Clinical Pharmacy
It is clear that the Bologna Declaration (1999) has revolutionized the concept of learning. As a result,
the teaching-education process should improve the quality of the university degrees in education. In
this sense, the evaluation in education has been greatly affected since the student must be the principal
actor of the teaching - learning process at any time. At the moment, the portfolio is a very popular
technique in the diagnosis and guidance of the education. The objective of our work is the
development of an educational model for the subject Clinical Pharmacy focused on the work done by
the student in the teaching – learning process. The portfolio that we have designed aims to very
efficiently collect all the productions of the students that could allow measuring their knowledge,
skills and attitudes. This approach is intended to enable the realization of activities of evaluation and
support on specific issues. 4 students of the subject Clinical Pharmacy of the Degree in Pharmacy at
the University of Granada (academic year 2009/2010) participated in this study. The effectiveness of this tool was analyzed after its application to two teaching units of this course. It was observed that the
portfolio allowed a systematical compilation of the materials and processes done by students during
their teaching-learning process. This instrument established the basis for examining the effort,
progress and achievements of the students. In addition, it also promoted the reflection and critical
thinking. The portfolio is a very appropriate tool for the students to achieve the competencies or objectives of the subject Clinical Pharmacy, and also for the teacher to further enhance his implication in the learning process
Enhancement of the capabilities of the future pharmacist in the realization of campaigns of health promotion
estudiante en el marco de actividades de educación sanitaria dirigidas a diversos grupos de población;
One of the most important health approaches in the fight against diseases is the implementation of
education and health promotion programs. In this sense, it is clear the important role that pharmacists
can play as the group of health professionals more accessible to citizens. The principal objectives of
this work are to: i) train the future pharmacist in the development of health education activities
directed to several groups of population; and, thus, ii) enhance the consciousness of the student of
Pharmacy on the importance and beneficial effects that such activities could have in the population. In
this study participated 20 students of the subject Clinical Pharmacy included in the Degree in Pharmacy at the University of Granada (academic year 2009/2010). After learning the most important
aspects related to the design and realization of health education campaigns, they were divided into
different groups of work. Each group designed one health education program/activity under the
supervision of the professor. At the end of the health education campaign, a self-administered
questionnaire was given to the students in order to define the utility that this teaching activity
represented to them. It was also analyzed the student proficiency in the implementation and
development of health education programs. Very interestingly, it was observed that all the groups of
work presented a satisfactory job skill in conducting health education campaigns. Furthermore, all the
students clearly agree with the importance of the health education activities. In particular, 95 % of the
students emphasized the key role that pharmacists can play in health education. Only with an adequate
training of the students of Pharmacy in all the things related to activities of health education and
promotion, and rational use of medicines, the future pharmacist will meet the needs of the society of XXI century in terms of first-level health professionals
The introduction of magnetic nanoplatforms in the cancer arena is intended to optimize the accumulation of the drug dose into the tumor interstitium with the help of a magnetic gradient. As a result, the chemotherapeutic agent may exhibit an enhanced anticancer efficacy and a negligible systemic toxicity. In these contexts, we have developed a reproducible methodology for the design of magnetite/poly (ε-caprolactone) core/shell nanoparticles. A detailed physicochemical characterization of these nanocomposites suggested that their heterogeneous structure allows their use in drug delivery, thanks to an excellent responsiveness to magnetic gradients. In vitro heating characteristics (hyperthermia inducing capability) of the core/shell nanoparticles were investigated in a high frequency alternating magnetic gradient. Blood compatibility of the nanoformulation was defined in vitro. Finally, this nanodevice was used to enhance the intravenous delivery of the anticancer agent doxorubicin to the tumor tissue. The nanocomposites were characterized by an adequate doxorubicin loading, a significant magnetic susceptibility, and a low burst drug release. When injected to the EMT6 subcutaneous mice tumor model, these doxorubicin-loaded core/shell nanoparticles were magnetically guided, and they displayed considerably greater anticancer activity than the other anticancer treatments (i.e., doxorubicin-loaded nanocomposites non-magnetically guided, or doxorubicin free in solution). Thus, the here-described stimuli-sensitive nanomedicine possesses important characteristics for effective therapy of cancer.

Methodology and fieldwork logistics of a multilevel research study on the influence of neigbourdhood's characteristics on natives and Ecuadorian's mental health in Spain
The methodological design, characteristics and fieldwork stage of a multilevel research study on the impact of the environmental characteristics on mental health in an autochthonous and immigrant population are described in this paper. Individual data were obtained using a core questionnaire 40 minutes length from home interviews of Spanish and Ecuadorian adults from September 2006 to January 2007. A random sample of 1186 people aged 18-55, with equal distribution of gender and nationality was obtained from Civil Registers of 33 areas (municipalities or neighbourhoods) of Madrid, Alicante, Almeria and Murcia, chosen by ethnic density and socioeconomic criteria. Previously, a pilot study was carried out. Socioeconomic indicators of neighbourhoods and selected communities were obtained from Municipal Registers and other secondary sources. Finally, 1144 people were interviewed (96%). Each person was contacted at home at two different times. The global response rate was 61%, higher among Ecuadorians (69%), who presented more problems of localisation (34%). Analyzing methods and fieldwork process the conclusion is that sample strategies for this type of population studies should be evaluated using feasibility criteria given time and money constraints, against the need to obtain representative samples of the target populations. There were serious shortcomings in the availability of social integration indicators at the neighbourhood level.
Objective: The purpose of the present research is to determine the affectation in the following areas: i) psychopathological level and internalizing/externalizing profile; ii) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); iii) maladjustment, and its relation to the type of abuse suffered, in children living in residential care or in special care (i.e. living with extended family members or other families). The sample consisted of 86 children aged between 6 and 17 years (51.2% boys and 48.8% girls).
Method: To assess the psychological variables we applied the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL; Achenbach and Edelbrock, 1983), the Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS; Foa, Johnson, Feen, & Tredwell, 2001), and the Test Autoevaluativo Multifactorial de Adaptación Infantil [in English, Multifactor Self-Assessment Test of Child Adjustment] (TAMAI; Hernández, 1983).
We conducted a frequency analysis and created contingency tables according to gender and age group to find the prevalence of empirical syndromes, PTSD, and psychosocial adjustment. The prevalence of empirical syndromes was calculated using criterion scores higher than the 93rd percentile. To measure PTSD, we used the following criteria: DSM-IV-TR, DSM-5, and partial PTSD criteria (Scheeringa, et al., 2003; Scheeringa, Zeana & Cohen, 2010; Jaycox et al., 2009). We conducted an inferential analysis of the CBCL and CPSS subscales according to gender, age, nationality, and source of guardianship.
Results: Regarding prevalence, analyses showed that in most cases of clinical syndromes (measured by the CBCL), children (ages 6-12 years) showed a higher prevalence rate than did adolescents (ages 13-17 years), 45.4% versus 41.6%, respectively. When evaluating clusters according to gender, girls showed both internalizing and externalizing symptomatology. The prevalence of internalizing symptoms in females was 43%, while the prevalence of externalizing symptoms in males was 42.6%.
Regarding psychosocial adjustment, family was found to be the factor most strongly associated with maladjustment, while no significant differences were found for direct social factors. We found a higher number of factors associated with psychosocial adjustment among adolescents in comparison to children in our sample. The overall prevalence of psychological maladjustment was similar among both genders.
Regarding PTSD, females showed higher prevalence rates than did males. When comparing age groups, adolescents reported more PTSD symptomatology than did children in our sample. We evaluated the prevalence of PTSD by using two diagnostic criteria and found the following results: 30% of children met criteria for PTSD according to the DSM-IV-TR, and 27.1% met for PTSD according to the DSM-5.
We found a significant correlation between the re-experiencing and somatic complaints scales. We also estimated the number of children who met for PTSD (Jaycox et al., 2009) and presented with one or more empirical syndromes simultaneously. Results showed that 75% of females between the ages of 8 and 12 and 66% of females between the ages of 13 and 17 met for PTSD and presented with two or more empirical syndromes. A total of 57% of males between 8 and 12 years old and 67% of males between 13 and 17 years old met for PTSD and presented with two or more empirical syndromes.
Our inferential analyses showed that, according to the CPSS Scale, females had marginally significant scores in the areas of Re-Experiencing and Avoidance. When evaluating age, type of guardianship, and nationality, no subscale was found to be significant. According to the CBCL, no significant differences were found in the subscales according to gender. Regarding age, significant differences were found in the areas of Somatic Complaints and Thought Problems among adolescents (13-17 years old). Regarding guardianship by extended family, significant differences were found in the areas of Withdrawn/Depression, Thought Problems, Attention Problems and Anti-Normative Behavior, while marginally significant differences were found in the Social Problems area
The EMMA-CHILD virtual reality system for the treatment of childhood trauma: Initial experiences. Over the last decade Child Maltreatment has
come to be considered a public health problem. Numerous studies analyzing its direct effects on children’s mental health report a high prevalence in
internalizing and externalizing disorders as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cognitive Behavioral-Trauma Focused Therapy is the only
treatment methodology which has been considered well established and as an effective treatment in the child-juvenile population. The technique of
prolonged exposure is considered of choice for the treatment of PTSD, although many patients present difficulties in carrying it out. Virtual reality
has become an alternative that facilitates the technique of exposure. Several systematic reviews have recently been published endorse the efficacy
of Virtual Reality Exposure Based Therapy (VR-EBT) for the treatment of PTSD in the adult population. However, there are no studies on this therapy
in the child and adolescent populations. The virtual reality system known as “EMMA’S WORLD” has been used in the adult population and based
on this, the GUIIA-PC research team carried out the first adaptation in 2008 of this system called “EMMA-Child” in children who suffered chronic
intra-family maltreatment. The present work aims to present the first experiences in the application of EMMA-Child in 8 children, highlighting how
there are advantages over traditional treatment, and the scores before and after treatment in symptoms of anxiety, depression, anger, and hostility,
Cross-cultural adaptation, reliability, validity and responsiveness of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ-Sp) in Spain
Abstract Background The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) is a self-report tool widely recognized for measuring the health status of patients with hand and wrist problems from a multidimensional perspective. The aim of this study is to translate and culturally adapt the MHQ and validate its psychometric properties of validity, reliability, and responsiveness for different hand problems in Spain. Methods The MHQ was translated and culturally adapted following the recommendations of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. The validation process adhered to the current Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Status Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) group and was conducted on 262 hand patients. Reliability was assessed through internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha. The study evaluated the test–retest reliability of the measurements using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Additionally, the measurement error was calculated using the standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC). To assess the structural validity, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed, while construct validity was evaluated using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Finally, responsiveness was assessed using effect size (ES), standardized response mean (SRM), and minimum clinically important difference (MCID). Results The reliability of the test was confirmed through internal consistency analysis, with a good Crombach's Alpha (0.82–0.85), and test–retest analysis, with good values of ICC (0.74–0.91). The measurement error was also assessed, with low values of SEM (1.70–4.67) and SDC (4.71–12.94)). The CFA confirmed the unidimensionality of each scale with goodness of fit indices, while the MHQ showed a high and negative correlation with DASH (r = − 0.75, P 0.005) and grip strength (r = 0.05, P > 0.005). At week 5, all 222 patients across the three diagnosed hand subgroups showed moderate to high values above 0.92 for ES and SRM, with one MCID above 6.85. Conclusions The MHQ-Sp was culturally adapted, and the results of this version showed good reliability and validity as well as high responsiveness for a wide range of hand conditions after surgical or conservative treatment in Spain
