Pitch-angle scattering in magnetostatic turbulence. I. Test-particle simulations and the validity of analytical results
Context. Spacecraft observations have motivated the need for a refined
description of the phase-space distribution function. Of particular importance
is the pitch-angle diffusion coefficient that occurs in the Fokker-Planck
transport equation. Aims. Simulations and analytical test-particle theories are
compared to verify the diffusion description of particle transport, which does
not allow for non-Markovian behavior. Methods. A Monte-Carlo simulation code
was used to trace the trajectories of test particles moving in turbulent
magnetic fields. From the ensemble average, the pitch-angle Fokker-Planck
coefficient is obtained via the mean square displacement. Results. It is shown
that, while excellent agreement with analytical theories can be obtained for
slab turbulence, considerable deviations are found for isotropic turbulence. In
addition, all Fokker-Planck coefficients tend to zero for high time values.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in Astron. Astrophy

for computational discrete algebra. The package enables the user to compute
numerous properties of (abstract) simplicial complexes, provides functions to
construct new complexes from existing ones and an extensive library of

Transport Theoretical Approach to the Nucleon Spectral Function in Nuclear Matter
The nucleon spectral function in infinite nuclear matter is calculated in a
quantum transport theoretical approach. Exploiting the known relation between
collision rates and correlation functions the spectral function is derived
self-consistently. By re-inserting the spectral functions into the collision
integrals the description of hard processes from the high-momentum components
of wave functions and interactions is improved iteratively until convergence is
achieved. The momentum and energy distributions and the nuclear matter
occupation probabilities are in very good agreement with the results obtained

e^+e^- Pair Production from A Reactions
We present a calculation of e^+e^- production in reactions at MAMI
and TJNAF energies within a semi-classical BUU transport model. Dilepton
invariant mass spectra for C, Ca and Pb are calculated
at 0.8, 1.5 and 2.2 GeV. We focus on observable effects of medium modifications
of the and mesons. The in-medium widths of these mesons are
taken into account in a dynamical, consistent way. We discuss the transport

A Generalized Diffusion Tensor for Fully Anisotropic Diffusion of Energetic Particles in the Heliospheric Magnetic Field
The spatial diffusion of cosmic rays in turbulent magnetic fields can, in the
most general case, be fully anisotropic, i.e. one has to distinguish three
diffusion axes in a local, field-aligned frame. We reexamine the transformation
for the diffusion tensor from this local to a global frame, in which the Parker
transport equation for energetic particles is usually formulated and solved.
Particularly, we generalize the transformation formulas to allow for an
explicit choice of two principal local perpendicular diffusion axes. This
generalization includes the 'traditional' diffusion tensor in the special case
of isotropic perpendicular diffusion. For the local frame, we motivate the
choice of the Frenet-Serret trihedron which is related to the intrinsic
magnetic field geometry. We directly compare the old and the new tensor
elements for two heliospheric magnetic field configurations, namely the hybrid
Fisk and the Parker field. Subsequently, we examine the significance of the
different formulations for the diffusion tensor in a standard 3D model for the
modulation of galactic protons. For this we utilize a numerical code to
evaluate a system of stochastic differential equations equivalent to the Parker
transport equation and present the resulting modulated spectra. The computed
differential fluxes based on the new tensor formulation deviate from those
obtained with the 'traditional' one (only valid for isotropic perpendicular
diffusion) by up to 60% for energies below a few hundred MeV depending on

Non-locality and Medium Effects in the Exclusive Photoproduction of Eta Mesons on Nuclei
A relativistic model for the quasifree exclusive photoproduction of
mesons on nuclei is extended to include both non-local and medium effects. The
reaction is assumed to proceed via the dominant contribution of the
S(1535) resonance. The complicated integrals resulting from the
non-locality are simplified using a modified version of a method given by
Cooper and Maxwell. The non-locality effects are found to affect the magnitude
of the cross section. Some possibilities reflecting the effects of the medium
on the propagation and properties of the intermediate S resonance are
studied. The effects of allowing the S to interact with the medium via
mean field scalar and vector potentials are considered. Both broadening of
width and reduction in mass of the resonance lead to a suppression of the
calculated cross sections.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figure
Low energy onset of nuclear shadowing in photoabsorption
The early onset of nuclear shadowing in photoabsorption at low photon
energies has recently been interpreted as a possible signature of a decrease of
the rho meson mass in nuclei. We show that one can understand this early onset
within simple Glauber theory if one takes the negative real part of the rho N
scattering amplitudes into account, corresponding to a higher effective mass of

Zusammenfassung: Hintergrund: Im Jahre 2000 veröffentlichte der Interdisziplinäre Arbeitskreis für Mund- und Gesichtsschmerzen in der Deutschen Gesellschaft zum Studium des Schmerzes Empfehlungen zur Diagnostik und Klassifikation von Patienten mit Schmerzen im Bereich der Kaumuskulatur und/oder Kiefergelenke. Ziele der vorliegenden Publikation sind eine Bestandsaufnahme und Aktualisierung der damals gemachten Vorschläge. Ergebnisse: Sichtung und Bewertung der nach Veröffentlichung der Empfehlungen erschienenen Fachliteratur (bis Dezember 2005) zeigen, dass sich das zweiachsige Stufenkonzept zur Erfassung somatischer und psychosozialer Parameter orofazialer Schmerzen bewährt hat. Einzelne Aspekte der Empfehlungen wurden in Form wissenschaftlicher Belege weiter konkretisiert. Schlussfolgerungen: Die vorgeschlagenen Empfehlungen spiegeln die aktuellen Entwicklungen in der Schmerzmedizin wider. Pathogenesis of eosinophilic esophagitis: A comprehensive review of the genetic and molecular aspects
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a relatively new condition described as an allergicmediated disease of the esophagus. Clinically, it is characterized by dysphagia, food impaction, and reflux-like symptoms. Multiple genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been conducted to identify genetic loci associated with EoE. The integration of numerous studies investigating the genetic polymorphisms in EoE and the Mendelian diseases associated with EoE are discussed to provide insights into the genetic risk of EoE, notably focusing on CCL26 and CAPN14. We focus on the genetic loci investigated thus far, and their classification according to whether the function near the loci is known. The pathophysiology of EoE is described by separately presenting the known function of each cell and molecule, with the major contributors being eosinophils, Th2 cells, thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, and interleukin (IL)-13.
