    This paper tests the endogenous relationship between FDI and economic growth using a panel dataset for 23 OECD countries for the period 1975-2004. Following the literature, we treat economic growth and FDI as endogenous variables, and estimate a two-equation simultaneous equation system with the generalized methods of moments (GMM) for the OECD case. We find that FDI and growth are important determinants of for each other. We also find that export growth rate is statistically significant determinant of FDI and economic growth. Our results indicate that there is an endogenous relationship between FDI and economic growth.FDI, growth

    The development of barbershop makes business competition becomes increasingly tight. Currently, information and communication technology is very important in the field of barbershop marketing. But this technology only shows details of the existence of barbershop. In addition, the catalog of hairstyles that are provided only in the form of 2-dimensional images. Therefore, more advanced technology is needed to promote the model of hairstyle available in barbershop. One of the technology applied in smartphone applications is Augmented Reality on the Android operating system. In this research will be developed an Augmented Reality based promotion media to promote hair model model with 3 dimensional object visualization using marker based tracking method. Development of this application starts from the stage of concept creation, application design, 3-dimensional object creation, application assembly, application testing, until the application distribution stage. This application was created using C # programming language, Vuforia Qualcomm, virtual and Unity Autodeks Maya software. The application that has been produced is tested by 2 methods that is by black-box testing and by USAbility scale system test, on the test of black -box AugmentedReality application of functional barbershop that exist in the application has been successfully executed according to their respective function. Based on survey results on Usabilty ScaleSystem(SUS) test on Augmented Reality Barbershop application, 20 respondents gave average score of 73.35 with Grade Scale C

    Indium selenide: An insight into electronic band structure and surface excitations

    We have investigated the electronic response of single crystals of indium selenide by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy and density functional theory. The loss spectrum of indium selenide shows the direct free exciton at similar to 1.3 eV and several other peaks, which do not exhibit dispersion with the momentum. The joint analysis of the experimental band structure and the density of states indicates that spectral features in the loss function are strictly related to single-particle transitions. These excitations cannot be considered as fully coherent plasmons and they are damped even in the optical limit, i.e. for small momenta. The comparison of the calculated symmetry-projected density of states with electron energy loss spectra enables the assignment of the spectral features to transitions between specific electronic states.     Cone beam computed tomography evaluation of ponticulus posticus in patients with cleft lip and palate: a retrospective radio-anatomic study

    Background: Ponticulus posticus (PP) is an abnormal bony bridge on the atlas. It plays a significant role in patients undergoing C1 lateral mass screw procedure. Patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) have higher risk than patients in general population for the appearance of cervical vertebral anomalies. The purpose of the this study was twofold: to determine the prevalence and characteristics of PP in patients with CLP, and to compare the findings with patients in general population using cone beam computed tomography. Materials and methods: Cone beam computed tomography images from 54 individuals who had undergone surgical repair of cleft lip and/or palate were analysed as the study group. For comparison purposes a control group was randomly selected from 108 patients and matched with the CLP subjects. Results: Although 12 of the 54 (22.3%) patients with surgically repaired cleft lip and/or palate in the study group were identified to have PP, only 10 of the 108 (9.2%) patients in the control group had PP. The distribution of the presence of PP between the groups was statistically significant. Conclusions: Ponticulus posticus is an important anomaly and the presence of PP is important for patients. PP can have clinical significance in cervical spine surgery as this study has indicated that the likelihood of encountering PP is higher in patients with CLP. We suggest that PP should be taken into account prior to cervical vertebral surgery in patients with CLP. (Folia Morphol 2018; 77, 1: 72–78)

    Determination of periodic deformation from InSAR results using the FFT time series analysis method in Gediz Graben

    Permanent Scatterers (PS) point velocities obtained by the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) method are generally determined using the linear regression model, which ignores periodic and seasonal effects. In this study, software was developed that can detect periodic effects by applying fast Fourier transformation (FFT) time series analysis to InSAR results. Using the FFT time series analysis, the periodic components of the surface movements at the PS points were determined, and then the annual velocity values free from periodic effects were obtained. The study area was chosen as the Gediz Graben, a tectonically active region where aseismic surface deformations have been observed in recent years. As a result, using the developed method, seasonal effects were successfully determined with the InSAR method at the PS points in the study area with a period of 384 days and an average amplitude of 19 mm. In addition, groundwater level changes of a water well in the region were modeled, and 0.93 correlation coefficient values were calculated between seasonal InSAR displacement values and water level changes. Thus, using the developed methodology, the relationship between the tectonic movement in the Gediz Graben in Turkey and the seasonal movements and the change in the groundwater level was determined

    Efficient channel estimation for reconfigurable MIMO antennas: Training techniques and performance analysis

    Multifunctional and reconfigurable multiple-input multiple-output (MR-MIMO) antennas are capable of dynamically changing the operation frequencies, polarizations, and radiation patterns, and can remarkably enhance system capabilities. However, in coherent communication systems, using MR-MIMO antennas with a large number of operational modes may incur prohibitive complexity due to the need for channel state estimation for each mode. To address this issue, we derive an explicit relation among the radiation patterns for the antenna modes and the resulting channel gains. We propose a joint channel estimation/prediction scheme where only a subset of all the antenna modes is trained for estimation, and then, the channels associated with the modes that are not trained are predicted using the correlations among the different antenna modes. We propose various training mechanisms with reduced overhead and improved estimation performance, and study the impact of channel estimation error and training overhead on the MR-MIMO system performance. We demonstrate that one can achieve significantly improved data rates and lower error probabilities utilizing the proposed approaches. For instance, under practical settings, we observe about 25% throughput increase or about 3-dB signal-to-noise ratio improvement under the same training overhead with respect to non-reconfigurable antenna systems. © 2002-2012 IEEE

    Collisional and thermal ionization of sodium Rydberg atoms I. Experiment for nS and nD atoms with n=8-20

    Collisional and thermal ionization of sodium nS and nD Rydberg atoms with n=8-20 has been studied. The experiments were performed using a two-step pulsed laser excitation in an effusive atomic beam at atom density of about 2 10^{10} cm^{-3}. Molecular and atomic ions from associative, Penning, and thermal ionization processes were detected. It has been found that the atomic ions were created mainly due to photoionization of Rydberg atoms by photons of blackbody radiation at the ambient temperature of 300K. Blackbody ionization rates and effective lifetimes of Rydberg states of interest were determined. The molecular ions were found to be from associative ionization in Na(nL)+Na(3S) collisions. Rate constants of associative ionization have been measured using an original method based on relative measurements of Na_{2}^{+} and Na^{+} ion signals.Comment: 23 pages, 10 figure

    Intelligent Financial Fraud Detection Practices: An Investigation

    Financial fraud is an issue with far reaching consequences in the finance industry, government, corporate sectors, and for ordinary consumers. Increasing dependence on new technologies such as cloud and mobile computing in recent years has compounded the problem. Traditional methods of detection involve extensive use of auditing, where a trained individual manually observes reports or transactions in an attempt to discover fraudulent behaviour. This method is not only time consuming, expensive and inaccurate, but in the age of big data it is also impractical. Not surprisingly, financial institutions have turned to automated processes using statistical and computational methods. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation on financial fraud detection practices using such data mining methods, with a particular focus on computational intelligence-based techniques. Classification of the practices based on key aspects such as detection algorithm used, fraud type investigated, and success rate have been covered.     Connectivity analysis of an AUV network with OFDM based communications

    Autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) networks play a crucial role in tactical, commercial, and scientific applications, where reliable and robust communication protocols are needed due to the challenging characteristics of the channel. With this motivation, connectivity of AUV networks in different regions with varying transducer characteristics are analyzed through simulations based on real-life orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based communication experiments over noisy and Doppler-distorted channels. Doppler compensation is performed according to the autocorrelation using the cyclic prefix. Using binary and quadrature phase shift keying (BPSK and QPSK) modulation schemes in conjunction with low density parity check (LDPC) coding, error rate levels are investigated through shallow water pond and at-sea experiments. It is shown that, the utilized transmission scheme is capable of correcting all bit errors among nearly one million bits transmitted up to a distance of 1 km, yielding a payload rate of 15.6 kbps with 4096 subcarriers and QPSK modulation. The simulations provide key parameters that must be taken into account in the design of scalable and connected AUV networks. © 2017 IEEE
