The genus Ephemerum (Pottiaceae, Bryopsida) in Central Africa (Gabon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda) with description of two new species

    Get PDF
Two new species of Ephemerum from Rwanda (E. rwandense) and Gabon (E. pocsii) are described. The identity of Ephemerum pechuelii is discussed. As the type is missing, the species can not be defined with high confidence. According to the protologue, the species has rather wide leaves with entire margin that are hardly recurved. A key to all species of Ephemerum from Africa is provided

The family Zingiberaceae in Rwanda with description of two new species of Renealmia

Background and aims – The Zingiberaceae of Rwanda are revised, and three new records of Aframomum species (A. corrorima, A. daniellii, A. zambesiacum) are provided. One previously recorded species, A. alboviolaceum, has to be excluded from the Flora of Rwanda. Two new species of Renealmia are described from Rwanda and Burundi in connection with the preparation of the family treatment for the Flore d’Afrique centrale. Material and methods – Field work and standard herbarium practices were applied. Key results – Renealmia timmiorum sp. nov. is similar to R. cincinnata and R. cabrae, and R. susannae-katziae sp. nov. is similar to R. africana and R. dewevrei. The differences with these species are discussed and distribution maps for the new taxa are presented. Renealmia timmiorum is assessed as Least Concern (LC), while R. susannae-katziae is assessed as Endangered (EN)

A study of African material of the lichen genus Menegazzia was undertaken. Full text link
The available collections of the lichen genus Pertusaria from the eastern parts of Central Africa (mainly in the Albertine Rift in Congo/Kivu. Burundi and Rwanda) and Western Kenya yielded 21 species. Four are described as new for science: Pertusaria fosseyae. P. kinigiensis. P. krogiae and P. lambinonii. The following species are new reports for Africa: P. commutata. P. maritima. P. melanostoma. P. mesotropa. P. microstoma. P. orarensis. P. pilosula. P. rigida. P. scaberula. P. subplanaica. P. subrigida. P. valliculata. and P. verruculifera. The following are reduced into synonymy: Pertusaria amboimensis with P. leioplacella. P. macrostomoides. P. prolifera and P. norstictica with P. endoxantha. P. kahuziensis with P. velata. and P. robsonii with P. limbata. P. aberdarensis is suspected to be a synonym of P. rigida. An identification key to all species is provided. The type collections of three further species described from Africa have been examined: P. kigomensis. P. regenerans and P. rhodesica

Isalonactis, a new genus of Roccellaceae (Arthoniales) from southern Madagascar

AbstractThe new genus and speciesIsalonactis madagascariensisis characterized by a crustose, non-corticate, often sorediate thallus containing psoromic acid, tiny white pruinose ascomata with a thalline margin, an inconspicuous excipulum, a pale brown hypothecium, 3-septate hyaline ascospores and curved filiform conidia. Phylogenetic analyses using nuLSU andRPB2sequences placeIsalonactisin theRoccellaceae, close to the generaLecanactisandChiodecton. The new species was collected on sheltered siliceous rocks in the dry landscape of the Isalo Massif (S Madagascar).Dermatiscum thunbergiiis newly recorded from Madagascar.</jats:p
