The effects of the implementation of International quality standards on the higher education institution's success

Ovim radom je sagledan i analiziran rezultat poslovanja i razina kvalitete javnih visokih učilišta koja su ishodila međunarodne certifikate te učinak međunarodno priznatih sustava kvalitete na ključne pokazatelje uspješnosti javnih sveučilišta u Republici Hrvatskoj. Provjerene metode kvantitativnog mjerenja utemeljenog na dimenzijama (SERVQUAL i HEdPERF) omogućile su kreiranje konceptualnog modela za oblikovanje utjecaja sustava upravljanja kvalitetom (SUK) i međunarodnih standarda kvalitete na uspješnost visokih učilišta. Na uzorku od 59 predstavnika vodstva visokoobrazovnih institucija statističkim metodama su potvrđene postavljene hipoteze te je dokazana korist od uvođenja sustava upravljanja kvalitetom prema nekom međunarodnom standardu (prvenstveno ISO 9001 sustava). Potvrđen je i moderatorski odnos standarda kvalitete na SUK-a i rezultate poslovanja, prvenstveno ključne pokazatelje uspješnosti (zadovoljstvo dionika, imidž, poslovni rezultat koji uključuje iskustva vodstva visoko obrazovnih institucija vezano uz financijske performanse). Institucije koje implementiraju sustav upravljanja kvalitetom i ishode certifikat su percipirane kao kvalitetnije.This paper looked at and analyzed the business results and the quality levels of the public higher education institutions that had obtained international certificates and the effect of internationally recognized quality systems on key indicators of the success of public universities in the Republic of Croatia. Relevant scales for measuring quality dimensions (SERVQUAL and HEdPERF) enabled the creation of a conceptual model for examining the impact of the Quality Management System (QMS) and international quality standards on the success of higher education institutions. On the sample of 59 senior representatives of higher education institutions, hypotheses were confirmed by statistical methods and the benefit of the introduction of a quality management system according to an international standard (primarily ISO 9001) has been proven. The moderator's relationship to SUK's quality standards and business results was also confirmed, primarily key performance indicators (stakeholder satisfaction, image, business outcome that includes senior management's experience with financial performance). Institutions that have implemented the quality management system and gained the certificate are acheiving higher levels of quality

ANALYSIS OF QUALITY SISTEMS IN CERTIFIED AND NONCERTIFIED CROATIAN FOREIGN TRADE ENTERPRISES

Upravljanje kvalitetom je imperativ tržišnog gospodarstva i jedan od ključnih zahtjeva povezivanja s međunarodnim tržištem, pogotovo tržištem Europske unije. Uočava se velika važnost sustava kvalitete kod poduzeća koja imaju visoki udio vrijednosti izvoza u ukupnom prihodu. Zato smo svoje istraživanje temeljili na uzorku od 150 hrvatskih izvoznih poduzeća iz sektora industrije i poljoprivrede. Istraživanje analizira sustave kvalitete u certificiranim i sustave kvalitete u necertificiranim hrvatskim vanjskotrgovinskim poduzećima iz sektora industrije i poljoprivrede. Rezultati istraživanja navode osnovne karakteristike kao i razlike između certificiranih i necertificiranih poduzeća i pokazuju: broj zaposlenih, strukturu zaposlenih, posjedovanje ISO standarda prema osnovnoj djelatnosti poduzeća, glavna tržišta za izvoz proizvoda, korištenje metoda i alata za upravljanje kvalitetom, broj korištenih alata i metoda za upravljanje kvalitetom i korištenje alata i metoda za upravljanje kvalitetom prije certifikacije normom ISO 9000. Na temelju dobivenih rezultata, iznesena je argumentacija za prihvaćanje ranije definiranih istraživačkih hipoteza. Prezentirani su rezultati: primjene alata i metoda za upravljanje kvalitetom na smanjenje/povećanje troškova proizvodnje, primjene alata i metoda za upravljanje kvalitetom na povećanje izvoza u certificiranim i necertificiranim poduzećima, najvažnije koristi od primjene alata i metoda za upravljanje kvalitetom u certificiranim i necertificiranim poduzećima i sklonost potencijalnih poslovnih partnera hrvatskim izvoznim poduzećima koja su certificirana normom ISO 9001:2000, kao i posjedovanje certifikata ISO 14000. Podizanje razine kvalitete u poslovanju je jedan od prijeko potrebnih alata za podizanje konkurentnosti hrvatskog gospodarstva. Upravo uvođenje sustava kvalitete sukladnog normi ISO 9001:2000 trebalo bi dovesti do neprekidnog poboljšavanja kvalitete i povećanja zadovoljstva kupaca i svih zainteresiranih strana.Quality control is imperative to market economy and one of the key demands for integration with the international market and the EU market in particular. The importance of quality systems is immense in enterprises where exports have a high share portion in income earnings. For this reason 150 Croatian foreign trade enterprises in the industrial and agricultural sectors were selected as samples for the present research. The paper analyses quality systems both in certified and non-certifi ed Croatian foreign trade enterprises in the industrial and agricultural sectors. The results obtained name the main characteristics as well as the differences between certified and non-certified enterprises and show: the number of employed persons, the structure of employees, the hold of the ISO standard in conformity with the primary sector of the enterprise, the main export markets, the presence of educational trainings as to applying methods and tools for quality control and, finally, the propensity of prospective business partners towards Croatian export enterprises which hold the certificate standard ISO 9001:2000, as well as ISO 14000. The raising of quality in business activities is one of the indispensible tools for raising competitiveness of the Croatian economy. Indeed, the implementation of the quality control system ISO 9001:2000 is to originate a continuous improvement in quality and an increase of satisfaction both of the customers and all the parties involved

ROLE OF INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN CROATIAN EXPORTS

Sustavi kvalitete, prema normama ISO 9000, dokazali su se kao korisno sredstvo upravljanja, ali zahtjevi društva proširuju se na druga dopunska područja upravljanja kvalitetom kao što su zdravstveni i sigurnosni uvjeti, zaštita okoliša, očuvanje resursa i energije. Stoga je sve više riječi o integriranom sustavu upravljanja (Integrated Management System), koji se uvodi u poduzeća kad se želi postići sukladnost više normi, čime bi se smanjio opseg dokumentacije, vrijeme za prosudbu i troškovi u izgradnji i održavanju sustava. Cilj istraživanja je utvrditi postojanje integriranih sustava upravljanja u hrvatskim izvoznim poduzećima iz sektora industrije i poljoprivrede, odnosno utvrditi postotak certificiranosti hrvatskih izvoznih tvrtki certifikatima ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 i dr., ustanoviti mogu li oni i u kojoj mjeri utjecati na povećanje (ili smanjenje) hrvatskog izvoza. Unutar istraživanja provedena je studija, tj. anketno istraživanje na 150 hrvatskih poduzeća, obavljena je statistička analiza i c2 test. Rezultati istraživanja prikazuju: zastupljenost sustavnog osiguranja kvalitete u sektorima industrije i poljoprivrede, veličinu poduzeća (broj zaposlenih), posjedovanje normi ISO 9001, ISO14001, odnosno integriranih sustava upravljanja, glavna tržišta za izvoz hrvatskih poduzeća, sklonost potencijalnih poslovnih partnera hrvatskim poduzećima koja su certificirana, utjecaj ISO normi na povećanje hrvatskog izvoza i ukupan broj svih certifikata prema različitim normama u Republici Hrvatskoj kao i na uzorku ovog istraživanja. Zajedno primijenjeni sustavi kvalitete, prema normama ISO 9001 i ISO 14001, u kombinaciji s ostalim normama koje će se istražiti, čine osnovu održivog razvoja, a time i ukupne kvalitete upravljanja.The ISO 9000 quality systems have proved to be a useful management tool. Nevertheless, the demands of the society have extended to additional areas of management systems, such as health and safety conditions, environmental protection, and energy and resources conservation. In this context, integrated management systems have been increasingly implemented in companies that want to ensure compliance of several standards, thus reducing the working documentation, the evaluation time and the costs of developing and maintaining such a system. The purpose of this research is to assess the level of implementation of integrated management systems in Croatian foreign export Companies operating in the industrial and agricultural sectors, i.e. to determine the percentage of Croatian foreign export companies certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and other standards, as well as to determine whether they can lead to the increase (or decrease) of Croatian exports and, if so, to what extent. For the purpose of this research, the authors conducted a study based on a sample of 150 Croatian companies, using a questionnaire, a statistical analysis and a χ2 test. The results provide the following: the level of implementation of integrated management systems in the industrial and agricultural sectors; the size of the companies (number of employees); the certification to the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 standards, i.e. integrated management systems; the main export markets of Croatian foreign trade companies; the tendency of potential partners to do business with certified Croatian companies; the impact of ISO standards on the increase of Croatian exports; and, finally, the overall number of certifi cations to various standards with respect to both the national level of the Republic of Croatia and the research sample. The joint implementation of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards together with other standards analysed in this paper provides the basis for sustainable development and hence for the overall quality of management

Spectrophotometric determination of certain cephalosporins using ferrihydroxamate method

Cephalexin, cefixime, ceftriaxone and cefotaxime were determined spectrophotometrically in the pure form and in pharmaceutical formulations by using ferrihydroxamate method. Reaction optimization with respect to reaction time and temperature has been investigated. Influence of the presence of ester functional group on the determination of cephalosporins as beta-lactams under conditions optimized was evaluated. Using cefotaxime sodiume as model drug with ester functional group, it was shown that proposed method gives equally acurate and precise results even ill the presence of ester functional group
