Super Logic Programs
The Autoepistemic Logic of Knowledge and Belief (AELB) is a powerful
nonmonotic formalism introduced by Teodor Przymusinski in 1994. In this paper,
we specialize it to a class of theories called `super logic programs'. We argue
that these programs form a natural generalization of standard logic programs.
In particular, they allow disjunctions and default negation of arbibrary
positive objective formulas.
Our main results are two new and powerful characterizations of the static
semant ics of these programs, one syntactic, and one model-theoretic. The
syntactic fixed point characterization is much simpler than the fixed point
construction of the static semantics for arbitrary AELB theories. The
model-theoretic characterization via Kripke models allows one to construct
finite representations of the inherently infinite static expansions.
Both characterizations can be used as the basis of algorithms for query
answering under the static semantics. We describe a query-answering interpreter
for super programs which we developed based on the model-theoretic

Exploring Bluetooth based Mobile Phone Interaction with the Hermes Photo Display
One of the most promising possibilities for supporting user interaction with public displays is the use of personal mobile phones. Furthermore, by utilising Bluetooth users should have the capability to interact with displays without incurring personal financial connectivity costs. However, despite the relative maturity of Bluetooth as a standard and its widespread adoption in today’s mobile phones, little exploration seems to have taken place in this area - despite its apparent significant potential. This paper describe the findings of an exploratory study nvolving our Hermes Photo Display which has been extended to enable users with a suitable phone to both send and receive pictures over Bluetooth. We present both the technical challenges of working with Bluetooth and, through our user study, we present initial insights into general user acceptability issues and the potential for such a display to facilitate notions of community
Strain analysis of multiferroic BiFeO3-CoFe2O4 nanostructures by Raman scattering
We report a Raman scattering investigation of columnar BiFeO3-CoFe2O4
(BFO-CFO) epitaxial thin film nanostructures, where BFO pillars are embedded in
a CFO matrix. The feasibility of a strain analysis is illustrated through an
investigation of two nanostructures with different BFO-CFO ratios. We show that
the CFO matrix presents the same strain state in both nanostructures, while the
strain state of the BFO pillars depends on the BFO/CFO ratio with an increasing
tensile strain along the out-of-plane direction with decreasing BFO content.
Our results demonstrate that Raman scattering allows monitoring strain states
in complex 3D multiferroic pillar/matrix composites.Comment: revised version submitted to Appl. Phys. Let
