Multiscaling in Models of Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence
From a direct numerical simulation of the MHD equations we show, for the
first time, that velocity and magnetic-field structure functions exhibit
multiscaling, extended self similarity (ESS), and generalized extended self
similarity (GESS). We also propose a new shell model for homogeneous and
isotropic MHD turbulence, which preserves all the invariants of ideal MHD,
reduces to a well-known shell model for fluid turbulence for zero magnetic
field, has no adjustable parameters apart from Reynolds numbers, and exhibits
the same multiscaling, ESS, and GESS as the MHD equations. We also study
dissipation-range asymptotics and the inertial- to dissipation-range crossover.Comment: 5 pages, REVTEX, 4 figures (eps
A Self-organising Model of Market with Single Commodity
We have studied here the self-organising features of the dynamics of a model
market, where the agents `trade' for a single commodity with their money. The
model market consists of fixed numbers of economic agents, money supply and
commodity. We demonstrate that the model, apart from showing a self-organising
behaviour, indicates a crucial role for the money supply in the market and also
its self-organising behaviour is seen to be significantly affected when the
money supply becomes less than the optimum. We also observed that this optimal
money supply level of the market depends on the amount of `frustration' or
scarcity in the commodity market.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures (encapsulated postscript
Tm-Yb doped optical fiber performance with variation of host-glass composition
The fabrication process of Thulium-Ytterbium doped optical fiber comprising different host glass through the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) coupled with solution doping technique is presented. The material and optical performance of different fibers are compared with special emphasis on their lasing efficiency for 2 µm application
Preparation and characterization of highly thulium- and alumina-doped optical fibers for single-frequency fiber lasers
Thulium-doped fibers suitable for core-pumped single-frequency lasers were
fabricated by the modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD) method. Refractive
index profile, doping profile and spectral absorption was measured. High doping
concentration of thulium ions should be achieved to allow for high absorption
of light at a pump wavelength while the thulium ions clustering should be
avoided to prevent the cooperative upconversion and quenching processes. The
fabricated fibers featured pump absorption up to 70dB/m at a pump wavelength of
1611nm. The single-frequency master oscillator with a resonator composed of a
pair of fiber Bragg gratings and a thulium-doped fiber was demonstrated with
predominantly single ended operation. We achieved a slope efficiency of 22% and
a threshold of 22mW at a lasing wavelength of 1944nm
Preparation and Properties of Er-Doped ZrO2 Nanocrystalline Phase-Separated Preforms of Optical Fibers by MCVD Process
The fabrication of Er-doped ZrO2-based nanocrystalline phase-separated silica
optical preforms by the MCVD and solution doping techniques is presented.
Fabricated preform cores are nearly transparent and contain phase-separated
rare-earth doped nanocrystalline particles with diameters mainly in a range
from 20 to 80 nm. High concentrations of erbium and aluminium in preform cores
of about 0.3 and 14 mol%, respectively have been achieved without defects on
the core-cladding interface. Spectral losses in a range 800-1600 nm and
fluorescence spectra of erbium ions around 1550 nm measured on a fibre drawn
from the preform are reported
Synthetic and structural investigation of ZnO nano-rods, hydrothermally grown over Au coated optical fiber for evanescent field-based detection of aqueous ammonia
We present the fabrication of modified clad optical fiber coated with ZnO nanorod over Au thin film to be served as ammonia gas sensor. The deposited material ZnO synthesized by hydrothermal process and modified clad fiber is coated by Autoclave technique. The as-synthesized materials are characterized by XRD, XPS, FTIR, Raman spectra and its hexagonal nanorods morphology was checked by FESEM. The ZnO coated over Au thin film fiber is found to be a good candidate towards ammonia sensing. The developed sesnor exihibted sensitivity (%) ~ 0.638 of ammonia gas at room temperature
A green process for chlorine-free benzaldehyde from the solvent-free oxidation of benzyl alcohol with molecular oxygen over a supported nano-size gold catalyst
Benzyl alcohol is oxidized selectively to benzaldehyde with high yield, with a little formation of benzylbenzoate, by molecular oxygen over a reusable nano-size gold catalyst supported on U3O8, MgO, Al2O3 or ZrO2 in the absence of any solvent
