Helton-Howe Trace, the Connes-Chern character and Quantization

We study the Helton-Howe trace and the Connes-Chern character for Toeplitz operators on weighted Bergman spaces via the idea of quantization. We prove a local formula for the large tt-limit of the Connes-Chern character as the weight goes to infinity. And we show that the Helton-Howe trace of Toeplitz operators is independent of the weight tt and obtain a local formula for the Helton-Howe trace for all weighted Bergman spaces using harmonic analysis and quantization.Comment: 92 page

A systematic review of the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis

BACKGROUND: Allergies cause a considerable burden to both sufferers and the National Health Service. There is growing interest in acupuncture as a treatment for a range of conditions. Since acupuncture may modulate the immune system it could be a useful treatment for allergic rhinitis (AR) sufferers. We therefore assessed the evidence for the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture in patients with AR by performing a systematic review of the literature. METHODS: Searches (to 2007) were conducted in all major databases for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of AR. No limits were placed on language. Studies were included if they compared acupuncture to a sham or inactive acupuncture treatment (placebo) with or without standard care. Meta-analysis was performed where feasible. RESULTS: Seven relevant RCTs were included after screening and application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The trials were generally of poor quality as assessed by a modified Jadad scale, with the exception of two studies which scored highly. A wide variety of outcomes was measured but most assessed symptom severity on a visual analogue scale. A meta-analysis failed to show any summary benefits of acupuncture treatment for symptom severity scores or serum IgE measures which could not have been accounted for by chance alone. Acupuncture was not associated with any additional adverse events in the trials. CONCLUSION: There is currently insufficient evidence to support or refute the use of acupuncture in patients with AR. A large well conducted RCT, which overcomes identified methodological problems in the existing RCTs, would be required to resolve this question.West Midlands purchasers levy to the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, University of Birmingha

Effects of Meteorology Changes on Inter-Annual Variations of Aerosol Optical Depth and Surface PM2.5 in China—Implications for PM2.5 Remote Sensing

PM2.5 retrieval from satellite-observed aerosol optical depth (AOD) is still challenging due to the strong impact of meteorology. We investigate influences of meteorology changes on the inter-annual variations of AOD and surface PM2.5 in China between 2006 and 2017 using a nested 3D chemical transport model, GEOS-Chem, by fixing emissions at the 2006 level. We then identify major meteorological elements controlling the inter-annual variations of AOD and surface PM2.5 using multiple linear regression. We find larger influences of meteorology changes on trends of AOD than that of surface PM2.5. On the seasonal scale, meteorology changes are beneficial to AOD and surface PM2.5 reduction in spring (1–50%) but show an adverse effect on aerosol reduction in summer. In addition, major meteorological elements influencing variations of AOD and PM2.5 are similar between spring and fall. In winter, meteorology changes are favorable to AOD reduction (−0.007 yr−1, −1.2% yr−1; p < 0.05) but enhanced surface PM2.5 between 2006 and 2017. The difference in winter is mainly attributed to the stable boundary layer that isolates surface PM2.5 from aloft. The significant decrease in AOD over the years is related to the increase in meridional wind speed at 850 hPa in NCP (p < 0.05). The increase of surface PM2.5 in NCP in winter is possibly related to the increased temperature inversion and more stable stratification in the boundary layer. This suggests that previous estimates of wintertime surface PM2.5 using satellite measurements of AOD corrected by meteorological elements should be used with caution. Our findings provide potential meteorological elements that might improve the retrieval of surface PM2.5 from satellite-observed AOD on the seasonal scale

Senescence-associated lncRNAs indicate distinct molecular subtypes associated with prognosis and androgen response in patients with prostate cancer

Cellular senescence has been considered as a hallmark of aging. In this study, we aimed to establish two novel prognostic subtypes for prostate cancer patients using senescence-related lncRNAs. Nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm was used to identify molecular subtypes. We completed analyses using software R 3.6.3 and its suitable packages. Using SNHG1, MIAT and SNHG3, 430 patients in TCGA database were classified into two subtypes associated with biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival and subtype 2 was prone to BCR (HR: 19.62, p < 0.001). The similar results were observed in the GSE46602 and GSE116918. For hallmark gene set enrichment, we found that protein secretion and androgen response were highly enriched in subtype 1 and G2M checkpoint was highly enriched in subtype 2. For tumor heterogeneity and stemness, homologous recombination deficiency and tumor mutation burden were significantly higher in subtype 2 than subtype 1. The top ten genes between subtype 2 and subtype 1 were CUBN, DNAH9, PTCHD4, NOD1, ARFGEF1, HRAS, PYHIN1, ARHGEF2, MYOM1 and ITGB6 with statistical significance. In terms of immune checkpoints, only CD47 was significantly higher in subtype 1 than that in subtype 2. For the overall assessment, no significant difference was detected between two subtypes, while B cells score was significantly higher in subtype 1 than subtype 2. Overall, we found two distinct subtypes closely associated with BCR-free survival and androgen response for prostate cancer. These subtypes might facilitate future research in the field of prostate cancer
