Metallic conductivity and a Ca substitution study of NaRh2O4 comprising a double chain system
The metallic compound NaRh2O4 forms a full range solid solution to the
insulating phase CaRh2O4. At a Na concentration of 0.25 moles per formula unit,
we found an unexpected contribution to the specific heat at low temperature [K.
Yamaura et al. Chem. Mater. 17 (2005) 359]. To address this issue, specific
heat and ac and dc magnetic susceptibilities were additionally measured under a
variety of conditions for the Na0.25 sample. A new set of data clearly indicate
the additional specific heat is magnetic in origin; however, the magnetic
entropy is fairly small (~1 % of Schottky term for a simple splitting doublet),
and there is no other evidence to suggest that a magnetic phase transition is
responsible for the anomalous specific heat.Comment: Accepted for publication in a special issue of Physica B (the

Dry Reforming of Methane under Mild Conditions Using Radio Frequency Plasma
Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is a challenging process wherein methane reacts with CO2 to give syngas. This reaction is strongly endothermic, typically requiring temperatures higher than 500â°C. Catalysts can be used, but the high temperatures (which are a thermodynamic requirement) often lead to catalyst deactivation. Herein, the reaction from another conceptual direction is approached, using lowâpower radio frequency inductively coupled plasma (RFâICP). It is demonstrated that this system can give high conversions of methane and CO2 at nearâambient temperatures. Importantly, the energy costs in this system are considerably lower compared with other plasmaâdriven DRM processes. Furthermore, it is shown that the yield of hydrogen can be increased by minimizing the C2 compound formation. The factors that govern the DRM process and discuss Hα emission and its influence on H atom recycling in the process are examined.</p
Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first
searches for and decays into invisible final states.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; Added references, Corrected typo
Charged Higgs Boson Production in Bottom-Gluon Fusion
We compute the complete next-to-leading order SUSY-QCD corrections for the
associated production of a charged Higgs boson with a top quark via
bottom-gluon fusion. We investigate the applicability of the bottom parton
description in detail. The higher order corrections can be split into real and
virtual corrections for a general two Higgs doublet model and into additional
massive supersymmetric loop contributions. We find that the perturbative
behavior is well under control. The supersymmetric contributions consist of the
universal bottom Yukawa coupling corrections and non-factorizable diagrams.
Over most of the relevant supersymmetric parameter space the Yukawa coupling
corrections are sizeable, while the remaining supersymmetric loop contributions
are negligible.Comment: 18 pages, v2: some discussions added, v3: published versio
Stability of Transonic Shock Solutions for One-Dimensional Euler-Poisson Equations
In this paper, both structural and dynamical stabilities of steady transonic
shock solutions for one-dimensional Euler-Poission system are investigated.
First, a steady transonic shock solution with supersonic backgroumd charge is
shown to be structurally stable with respect to small perturbations of the
background charge, provided that the electric field is positive at the shock
location. Second, any steady transonic shock solution with the supersonic
background charge is proved to be dynamically and exponentially stable with
respect to small perturbation of the initial data, provided the electric field
is not too negative at the shock location. The proof of the first stability
result relies on a monotonicity argument for the shock position and the
downstream density, and a stability analysis for subsonic and supersonic
solutions. The dynamical stability of the steady transonic shock for the
Euler-Poisson equations can be transformed to the global well-posedness of a
free boundary problem for a quasilinear second order equation with nonlinear
boundary conditions. The analysis for the associated linearized problem plays
an essential role
Quantum Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Particles with Distance Dependent Statistics
The general notion of distance dependent statistics in anyon-like systems is
discussed. The two-body problem for such statistics is considered, the general
formula for the second virial coefficient is derived and it is shown that in
the limiting cases it reproduces the known results for ideal anyons.Comment: 9 pages, LATEX Kiev Institute for Theoretical Physics preprint

Nonlinear Parabolic Equations arising in Mathematical Finance
This survey paper is focused on qualitative and numerical analyses of fully
nonlinear partial differential equations of parabolic type arising in financial
mathematics. The main purpose is to review various non-linear extensions of the
classical Black-Scholes theory for pricing financial instruments, as well as
models of stochastic dynamic portfolio optimization leading to the
Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. After suitable transformations, both
problems can be represented by solutions to nonlinear parabolic equations.
Qualitative analysis will be focused on issues concerning the existence and
uniqueness of solutions. In the numerical part we discuss a stable
finite-volume and finite difference schemes for solving fully nonlinear
parabolic equations.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1603.0387
Extremal black holes in D=5: SUSY vs. Gauss-Bonnet corrections
We analyse near-horizon solutions and compare the results for the black hole
entropy of five-dimensional spherically symmetric extremal black holes when the
N=2 SUGRA actions are supplied with two different types of higher-order
corrections: (1) supersymmetric completion of gravitational Chern-Simons term,
and (2) Gauss-Bonnet term. We show that for large BPS black holes lowest order
\alpha' corrections to the entropy are the same, but for non-BPS are generally
different. We pay special attention to the class of prepotentials connected
with K3\times T^2 and T^6 compactifications. For supersymmetric correction we
find beside BPS also a set of non-BPS solutions. In the particular case of T^6
compactification (equivalent to the heterotic string on ) we
find the (almost) complete set of solutions (with exception of some non-BPS
small black holes), and show that entropy of small black holes is different
from statistical entropy obtained by counting of microstates of heterotic
string theory. We also find complete set of solutions for K3\times T^2 and T^6
case when correction is given by Gauss-Bonnet term. Contrary to
four-dimensional case, obtained entropy is different from the one with
supersymmetric correction. We show that in Gauss-Bonnet case entropy of small
``BPS'' black holes agrees with microscopic entropy in the known cases.Comment: 28 pages; minor changes, version to appear in JHE
Supersymmetric Electroweak Corrections to Charged Higgs Boson Production in Association with a Top Quark at Hadron Colliders
We calculate the and supersymmetric electroweak corrections to the cross section
for the charged Higgs boson production in association with a top quark at the
Tevatron and the LHC. These corrections arise from the quantum effects which
are induced by potentially large Yukawa couplings from the Higgs sector and the
chargino-top(bottom)-sbottom(stop) couplings,
neutralino-top(bottom)-stop(sbottom) couplings and charged Higgs-stop-sbottom
couplings. They can decrease or increase the cross section depending on
but are not very sensitive to the mass of the charged Higgs boson
for high . At low the corrections decrease the total
cross sections significantly, which exceed -12% for below
at both the Tevatron and the LHC, but for the
corrections can become very small at the LHC. For high
these corrections can decrease or increase the total cross sections, and the
magnitude of the corrections are at most a few percent at both the Tevatron and
the LHC.Comment: 28 pages including 4 eps figure
