    Get PDF

Accumulation and Decomposition Rates and N, P and K Returned to the Soil by the Litter of Tropical Legumes and Grasses

    Get PDF
The return of plant nutrients through litter decomposition of legumes and grasses is important for the sustainability of grassland ecosystems (Sánchez et al., 1989). Therefore, the selection of species that produce high amounts of decomposable litter is important . The objective of the present work was to study the production and decomposition rates of litter from various legumes and grasses in Cuba

Validation of the Software “Recycling of Nutrients” in Dairy-Farms of Western Cuba

    Get PDF
To maintain a good productivity in the soil-plant-animal system it is necessary to achieve an equilibrium between input and output of nutrients and energy. Models and simulation software have been proposed for this purpose. For dairy farms, models have been utilised to show the behaviour of different aspects, such as: feed utilisation, energy flow, digestibility values and daily weight gains (Freer et al., 1970; Assis & France, 1983, Bruce et al., 1984). However, there are few models showing the interaction between soil-plant- animal components of these systems. The objective of the present study was to validate the software Recycling of Nutrients proposed by Ortiz (2000) for dairy farms of western Cuba

    Divorcio incausado

The recent admission approval, by the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, of the action filed in favor of the unconstitutionality of article 110 of our Civil Code, raises the possibility of legislative attempts capable of making viable and enabling radical changes in the way of proceeding to the dissolution of the marriage bond. Taking into account these relevant contextual variations, this article is oriented towards bibliographic research aimed at assessing the importance of the so-called uncaused divorce. It begins with a review of the research literature related to the subject, then moves on to the methodological basis that allows comparative analysis of these sources, conceptually and legally. Subsequently, a discussion of the different approaches is carried out, making a compilation of analytical results based on similarities and differences between them. And finally the article reaches the conclusions.

Variation in trophic resources in female South American sea lions at a small geographic scale

Difference among colonies in the population structure of otariids can be driven by philopatry and/or by specializations in the foraging ecology of females. In northern Patagonia, the South American sea lion (SASL) shows some degree of spatial genetic structure among colonies from north and south zones. This study aims to explore the isotopic niche of SASL females in the last period of the pregnancy from different colonies of northern Patagonia and to consider whether the fine scale genetic spatial structuring is potentially related to variation in trophic resources. Stable isotope analysis was performed on 101 skin samples of newborn pups in 10 colonies, as a proxy for the feeding ecology of their mothers. Differences among colonies in the metrics studied revealed the plasticity of the species and support individual trophic specialization of SASL females at a small geographic scale. Also, significant differences were found in all isotopic metrics between the north and south zones. Several hypotheses were proposed to explain the differences in SASL females' isotope values (e.g., use of different foraging areas or prey, isotopic baseline variation). Nonetheless, further research is needed to better understand the relation between fine scale genetic structuring and the foraging ecology of SASL females.Fil: Grandi, Maria Florencia.
