The importance of assessment procedures to student learning outcomes in religious education

    Get PDF
The teaching of religious education has failed, in the past, to utilise the basic principles of good education. The use of assessment and evaluation techniques have been shunned by many teachers. The rejection of such essential teaching strategies has tended to be based on theological ideals rather than sound educational arguments

Flag on the Play? The Siphoning Effect on Sports Television

    Get PDF
The tradition of watching the Sunday afternoon football game in front of the television began in 1939. Since then, sports broadcasting has become one of the most powerful revenue-building tools for both media and sports leagues alike. Sports programming is increasingly available only through cable and pay-per-view television, which limits viewers\u27 access to free broadcast televised sporting events. Legislators have now directed the Federal Communications Commission to study the effects of paid access to sports broadcasts, with an eye toward protecting viewers\u27 rights to free access to sports on television. This Note explains the impact of the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 and its relation to the siphoning effect cable and pay-per-view have had on televised sports. The Note then analyzes the FCC\u27s approach to sports programming, and the implications of their reports on the issue. Finally, the Author concludes that legislative or regulatory action is appropriate under FCC policy and constitutional analysis to protect viewers\u27 access to free broadcast of sporting events, despite the viewers\u27 inability to pay for cable or pay-per-view service

Emotion Classification of Indonesian Tweets using Bidirectional LSTM

    Get PDF
Emotion classification can be a powerful tool to derive narratives from social media data. Traditional machine learning models that perform emotion classification on Indonesian Twitter data exist but rely on closed-source features. Recurrent neural networks can meet or exceed the performance of state-of-the-art traditional machine learning techniques using exclusively open-source data and models. Specifically, these results show that recurrent neural network variants can produce more than an 8% gain in accuracy in comparison with logistic regression and SVM techniques and a 15% gain over random forest when using FastText embeddings. This research found a statistical significance in the performance of a single-layer bidirectional long short-term memory model over a two-layer stacked bidirectional long short-term memory model. This research also found that a single-layer bidirectional long short-term memory recurrent neural network met the performance of a state-of-the-art logistic regression model with supplemental closed-source features from a study by Saputri et al. [8] when classifying the emotion of Indonesian tweets

Hercules and Antaeus: Authorship and Meaning in a Print by Agostino Veneziano

    Get PDF
This thesis centers on an analysis of a single engraving, Hercules and Antaeus (fig. 1) by Agostino Veneziano, and seeks to address the formal, iconographic, and historical problems that the work raises. The research occupying the following pages concerns a particular impression of the print in the Burton Emmett Collection of the Ackland Art Museum. Since the print entered the Ackland’s collection in 1958, it has been given only cursory curatorial attention. The work has never before received sustained study, even though its composition contains a series of puzzles waiting to be solved. The print presents a non-canonical vision of the classical topos by an important, but understudied, printmaker of the cinquecento. This paper will critically examine Hercules and Antaeus for the first time.Bachelor of Art

Cyclone: A close air support aircraft for tomorrow

    Get PDF
To meet the threat of the battlefield of the future, the U.S. ground forces will require reliable air support. To provide this support, future aircrews demand a versatile close air support aircraft capable of delivering ordinance during the day, night, or in adverse weather with pin-point accuracy. The Cyclone aircraft meets these requirements, packing the 'punch' necessary to clear the way for effective ground operations. Possessing anti-armor, missile, and precision bombing capability, the Cyclone will counter the threat into the 21st Century. Here, it is shown that the Cyclone is a realistic, economical answer to the demand for a capable close air support aircraft
