    Permasalahan utama dalam pembuatan dodol buah merah, yaitu teksturnya lembek dan lunak. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan penambahan jenis tepung yang berbeda, yaitu tepung terigu, beras dan tapioka sebanyak 15 % (b/b) dari berat tepung ketan dan pasta buah merah. Dodol yang dihasilkan dilakukan pengamatan sifat fisikokimia dan ting- kat penerimaan panelis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dodol formula terbaik berdasarkan sifat organoleptik dan fisikokimia adalah dodol dengan penambahan tapioka. Dodol tersebut memiliki sifat organoleptik dengan skor kesukaan warna agak suka (5,40), rasa agak suka (5,05), aroma suka (6,05) dan tekstur agak suka (5,70), sifat fisik kekerasan dan kelengketan masing-masing 951,43 dan 216,68 gf, serta kekenyalan 0,35 %, juga memiliki sifat kimiadengan mengandung air dan total padatan masing-masing 37,86 % dan 62,14 % dengan tingkat ketersediaan air (a )0,83 dan kandungan ÎČ-karoten 1,02 ppm

    Komposisi Kimia Minyak Atsiri Kulit Kayu Akway (Drimys Piperita Hook F.)

    Akway (Drimys piperita Hook f.) adalah tumbuhan berkayu dan berdaun hijau aromatik yang merupakan kerabat winteraceae. Tumbuhan ini digunakan oleh suku Sougb yang bermukim di desa Sururey Kecamatan Manokwari, untuk menyembuhkan malaria dan untuk meningkatkan vitalitas tubuh. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui rendemen minyak atsiri kulit kayu akway menggunakan metode distilasi air dan komposisi kimia minyak atsirinya menggunakan gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rendemen minyak atsiri kulit kayu akway adalah 0.37%. Minyak atsiri kulit kayu akway tersusun dari 41 senyawa. Senyawa-senyawa yang menyusun minyak atsiri terdiri dari terpen dan turunannya sebesar 80.49% and senyawa alifatik 4.88%

    The CMS Level-1 calorimeter trigger is being upgraded in two stages to maintain performance as the LHC increases pile-up and instantaneous luminosity in its second run. In the first stage, improved algorithms including event-by-event pile-up corrections are used. New algorithms for heavy ion running have also been developed. In the second stage, higher granularity inputs and a time-multiplexed approach allow for improved position and energy resolution.     An analysis of the time course of attention in preview search.

    We used a probe dot procedure to examine the time course of attention in preview search (Watson and Humphreys, 1997). Participants searched for an outline red vertical bar among other new red horizontal bars and old green vertical bars, superimposed on a blue background grid. Following the reaction time response for search, the participants had to decide whether a probe dot had briefly been presented. Previews appeared for 1,000 msec and were immediately followed by search displays. In Experiment 1, we demonstrated a standard preview benefit relative to a conjunction search baseline. In Experiment 2, search was combined with the probe task. Probes were more difficult to detect when they were presented 1,200 msec, relative to 800 msec, after the preview, but at both intervals detection of probes at the locations of old distractors was harder than detection on new distractors or at neutral locations. Experiment 3A demonstrated that there was no difference in the detection of probes at old, neutral, and new locations when probe detection was the primary task and there was also no difference when all of the shapes appeared simultaneously in conjunction search (Experiment 3B). In a final experiment (Experiment 4), we demonstrated that detection on old items was facilitated (relative to neutral locations and probes at the locations of new distractors) when the probes appeared 200 msec after previews, whereas there was worse detection on old items when the probes followed 800 msec after previews.     Evaluation of testicular echotexture with Ecotext as a diagnostic method of testicular dysfunction in stallions

    This study aimed to assess if Ecotext, a new software for evaluation of testicular echotexture, is a good method for diagnosis of stallions with testicular dysfunction (TD). Relationships between Ecotext parameters and sperm motility and production, testicular volume, and testicular blood flow were also studied. Ecotext provides a total of six echotexture parameters: Ecotext 1 (black pixels), 2 (white pixels) and 3 (grey pixels), and another 3 parameters related to hypoechogenic areas: Ecotext tubular density (ETD), Ecotext tubular diameter (ETd), and Ecotext tubular area (ETA). Stallions (n = 33) were assessed using proven diagnostic techniques (spermiogram, B-mode and Pulse Doppler ultrasound), and subsequent analysis with Ecotext. Animals were classified as “control stallions” (n:21, acceptable semen quality), and “stallions with TD” (n:12, poor semen quality (TM < 60%, PM < 45% and total nÂș of sperm with PM < 2000 × 106 spz), that were subdivided into “induced TD group” (immunized, anti-GnRH vaccine) and “acquired TD group”. The acquired TD group showed differences in all Ecotext parameters in relation to controls (Ecotext 1:0.11 ± 0.17 vs 2.82 ± 2.52, Ecotext 2:1584.0 ± 575.8 vs 388 ± 368.2, Ecotext 3:134.2 ± 9.26; ETA: 2.14 ± 0.59 vs 5.40 ± 1.90; ETd: 65.66 ± 6.27 vs 86.93 ± 10.65 and ETD: 92.35 ± 11.24 vs 132.10 ± 16.35, p ≀ 0.001). Results suggest acquired TD stallions were suffering testicular degeneration with loss of architecture and function as all Ecotext parameters were altered in relation to controls. Induced TD horses only showed a reduction in ETD (116.2 ± 8.59 vs 132.10 ± 16.35, p ≀ 0.001), despite all sperm parameters being worse. These findings suggested immunized stallions probably only experience an acute loss of testicular functionality and parenchyma architecture is likely not affected since differences in Ecotext parameters with control stallions were not detected. ETD was the best parameter to identify animals with TD (AUC: 0.84, optimal cut-off value of 124.3 seminiferous tubules/cm2). Correlations were found between ETD and Doppler indices (PI: 0.60; RI: 0.47 p ≀ 0.001), total testicular volume (r: 0.48; p ≀ 0.05) and sperm motility (TM:0.51; and PM:0.54; p ≀ 0.001) and production (r:0.51; p ≀ 0.001). In summary, Ecotext could identify changes in testicular echotexture of stallions with TD. Results open the possibility for new research focused on establishing the relationship between Ecotext parameters and histomorphometry features in stallion testes

    Search for Gravitational-wave Inspiral Signals Associated with Short Gamma-ray Bursts During LIGO's Fifth and Virgo's First Science Run

    Progenitor scenarios for short gamma-ray bursts (short GRBs) include coalescenses of two neutron stars or a neutron star and black hole, which would necessarily be accompanied by the emission of strong gravitational waves. We present a search for these known gravitational-wave signatures in temporal and directional coincidence with 22 GRBs that had sufficient gravitational-wave data available in multiple instruments during LIGO's fifth science run, S5, and Virgo's first science run, VSR1. We find no statistically significant gravitational-wave candidates within a [ – 5, + 1) s window around the trigger time of any GRB. Using the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U-test, we find no evidence for an excess of weak gravitational-wave signals in our sample of GRBs. We exclude neutron star-black hole progenitors to a median 90% confidence exclusion distance of 6.7 Mpc

    First search for gravitational waves from the youngest known neutron star

    We present a search for periodic gravitational waves from the neutron star in the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. The search coherently analyzes data in a 12 day interval taken from the fifth science run of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. It searches gravitational-wave frequencies from 100 to 300 Hz and covers a wide range of first and second frequency derivatives appropriate for the age of the remnant and for different spin-down mechanisms. No gravitational-wave signal was detected. Within the range of search frequencies, we set 95% confidence upper limits of (0.7–1.2) × 10^(−24) on the intrinsic gravitational-wave strain, (0.4–4) × 10^(−4) on the equatorial ellipticity of the neutron star, and 0.005–0.14 on the amplitude of r-mode oscillations of the neutron star. These direct upper limits beat indirect limits derived from energy conservation and enter the range of theoretical predictions involving crystalline exotic matter or runaway r-modes. This paper is also the first gravitational-wave search to present upper limits on the r-mode amplitude
