New Constraints on General Slepton Flavor Mixing
We explore the phenomenological implications on charged lepton flavor
violating (LFV) processes from slepton flavor mixing within the Minimal
Supersymmetric Standard Model. We work under the model-independent hypothesis
of general flavor mixing in the slepton sector, being parametrized by a
complete set of dimensionless delta^AB_ij (A,B = L,R; i,j = 1, 2, 3)
parameters. The present upper bounds on the most relevant LFV processes,
together with the requirement of compatibility in the choice of the MSSM
parameters with the recent LHC and (g-2) data, lead to updated constraints on
all slepton flavor mixing parameters. A comparative discussion of the most
effective LFV processes to constrain the various generation mixings is
included.Comment: 42 pages, 19 figures. Minor changes, version to appear in PR
Updated Constraints on General Squark Flavor Mixing
We explore the phenomenological implications on non-minimal flavor violating
(NMFV) processes from squark flavor mixing within the Minimal Supersymmetric
Standard Model. We work under the model-independent hypothesis of general
flavor mixing in the squark sector, being parametrized by a complete set of
dimensionless delta^AB_ij (A,B = L, R; i,j = u, c, t or d, s, b) parameters.
The present upper bounds on the most relevant NMFV processes, together with the
requirement of compatibility in the choice of the MSSM parameters with the
recent LHC and g-2 data, lead to updated constraints on all squark flavor
mixing parameters.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

Pneumatic press equipped with the Vortex system for white grapes processing: First results
The interaction between mechanical, computer and electronic technologies offers nowadays highly innovative solutions to be applied to the oenological machinery industry. Grapes pressing for the extraction of must from the grapes has a fundamental role for obtaining wines with high quality. The pneumatic presses commonly used work with a discontinuous cycle, taking on average about 3 hours for the extraction of the juice from the grapes. During this period, the presence of oxygen in contact with grapes can modify the qualitative characteristics of the future wine. The aim of the research was to study the \u201cVortex System\u201d applied to a pneumatic press and to evaluate the quality of wines obtained in reduction. The study was carried out in a modern winery in the province of Palermo (Italy) using cv. Catarratto lucido grapes. The machine used in the tests was a pneumatic press with a capacity of 1,900 / 2,500 kg by Puleo Srl company (Italy), equipped with the patent "Vortex System". It consists in the recovery of the inert gas by means of a passage and recirculation apparatus during grapes pressing allowing the must extraction in inert and controlled atmosphere, the non-oxidation of the product and a re-use of the gaseous component. Two operating modes were applied: AP (Air Pressing) mode, the traditional pressing mode in presence of oxygen, and NP (Nitrogen Pressing) mode with the Vortex System, performed under inert gas with nitrogen recovery. The following analytical determinations were performed on wines in triplicates: alcohol [%/vol], density [g/l], sugar [g/l], pH, total acidity [g/l], volatile acidity [g/l], malic acid [g/l], citric acid [g/l], tartaric acid [g/l], potassium [g/l], glycerin [g/l], ashes [g/l], absorbance at 420, 520 and 620 nm, polyphenols [mg/l], catechins [mg/l], free sulfur dioxide [mg/l], total sulfur dioxide [mg/l]. The use of the pneumatic press equipped with the Vortex System allowed to obtain excellent values of volatile acidity, absorbance at 420 nm, catechins in white wines and a rich aromatic component both in primary and secondary aromas
Heavy Quark Dynamics in the QGP
We assess transport properties of heavy quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma
(QGP) that show a strong non-perturbative behavior. A T-matrix approach based
on a potential taken from lattice QCD hints at the presence of heavy-quark (HQ)
resonant scattering with an increasing strength as the temperature, ,
reaches the critical temperature, T_c \simeq 170 \; \MeV for deconfinement
from above. The implementation of HQ resonance scattering along with a
hadronization via quark coalescence under the conditions of the plasma created
in heavy-ion collisions has been shown to correctly describe both the nuclear
modification factor, , and the elliptic flow, , of single
electrons at RHIC and have correctly predicted the of D mesons at LHC
energy.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of EPIC@LHC Workshop, 6-8 July, Bar
Activity of eribulin mesylate in brain metastasis from breast cancer. a stone in a pond?
Background: Brain metastases develop in approximately 10-25% of patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and are associated with a very poor prognosis. Case Report: We report the case of a 40-year-old woman with MBC and associated lung, bone, liver, and brain metastases, who experienced a time to progression of several months with eribulin after whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT), 2 lines of chemotherapy, and 1 line of hormonal therapy, maintaining a good toxicity profile. Discussion: Eribulin, in association with local treatment such as WBRT, can be well tolerated and effective in achieving a long progression-free survival and a good control of brain metastases in patients with MBC who have received multiple lines of treatment. The vascular remodeling properties of eribulin, combined with brain radiotherapy, might facilitate the passage of eribulin across the blood brain barrier, improving brain response. Conclusion: Our anecdotal experience suggests that eribulin may have a potentially beneficial effect on brain metastases while maintaining a good systemic control of the disease in patients with MBC
Unmanned aerial vehicle and proximal sensing of vegetation indices in olive tree (Olea europaea)
Remote and proximal sensing platforms at the service of precision olive growing are bringing new development possibilities to the sector. A proximal sensing platform is close to the vegetation, while a remote sensing platform, such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), is more distant but has the advantage of rapidity to investigate plots. The study aims to compare multispectral and hyperspectral data acquired with remote and proximal sensing platforms. The comparison between the two sensors aims at understanding the different responses their use can provide on a crop, such as olive trees having a complex canopy. The multispectral data were acquired with a DJI multispectral camera mounted on the UAV Phantom 4. Hyperspectral acquisitions were carried out with a FieldSpec® HandHeld 2™ Spectroradiometer in the canopy portions exposed to South, East, West, and North. The multispectral images were processed with Geographic Information System software to extrapolate spectral information for each cardinal direction’s exposure. The three main Vegetation indices were used: normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference red-edge index (NDRE), and modified soil adjusted vegetation index (MSAVI). Multispectral data e could describe the total variability of the whole plot differentiating each single plant status. Hyperspectral data were able to describe vegetation conditions more accurately; they appeared to be related to the cardinal exposure. MSAVI, NDVI, and NDRE showed correlation r =0.63**, 0.69**, and 0.74**, respectively, between multispectral and hyperspectral data. South and West exposures showed the best correlations with both platforms
Evaluation of Multispectral Data Acquired from UAV Platform in Olive Orchard
Precision agriculture is a management strategy to improve resource efficiency, production, quality, profitability and sustainability of the crops. In recent years, olive tree management is increasingly focused on determining the correct health status of the plants in order to distribute the main resource using different technologies. In the olive grove, the focus is often on the use of multispectral information from UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), but it is not known how important spectral and biometric information actually is for the agronomic management of the olive grove. The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of multispectral data acquired from a UAV platform to predict nutritional status, biometric characteristics, vegetative condition and production of olive orchard as tool to DSS. Data were collected on vegetative characteristics closely related to vigour such as trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA), Nitrogen concentration of the leaves, canopy area and canopy volume. The production was collected for each plant to create an accurate yield map. The flight was carried out with a UAV equipped with a multispectral camera, at an altitude of 50 m and with RTK correction. The flight made it possible to determine the biometric condition and the spectral features through the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The NDVI map allowed to determine the canopy area. The Structure for Motion (SfM) algorithm allow to determine the 3D canopy volume. The experiment showed that the NDVI was able to determine with high accuracy the vegetative characteristic as canopy area (r = 0.87 ***), TCSA (r = 0.58 ***) and production (r = 0.63 ***). The vegetative parameters are closely correlated with the production, especially the canopy area (r = 0.75 ***). Data clustering showed that the production of individual plants is closely dependent on leaf nitrogen concentration and vigour status
