Electrochemical characterisation of multilayer organic coatings
The protective properties of eight high performance commercial multilayer organic coatings for aeronautical use (based on polyurethane, epoxy and polyurethane-compatible epoxy resins) on anodised 2024-T3 A1 alloy were evaluated in neutral aerated 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. The investigation was performed on specimens supplied and prepared from Alenia in accordance with their technical specifications. Results obtained in this paper show that all coating systems exhibit excellent protective properties even after prolonged immersion in the test solution (one year). Although the dielectric properties of all multilayer coatings are quite similar, EIS was proved to be able to discriminate among them, making possible a rank of these protective systems to prevent or to reduce corrosion. Capacitance measurements performed on the same coatings allow their behaviour to be forecasted

Degradation behaviour of 6013-T6, 2024-T3 alloys and pure aluminium in different aqueous media
The electrochemical and corrosion behaviour of 6013-T6, 2024-T3 aluminium alloys and pure aluminium in 0.6 M NaCl and 0.3 M Na2SO4 aqueous solutions was investigated using d.c. and a.c. electrochemical techniques. Results show that the 6013-T6 alloy exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared with that exhibited by the 2024-T3 alloy in both environments. These findings were interpreted on the basis of a barrier oxide film model
A national survey on technology and quality assurance for stereotactic body radiation therapy
urpose: Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for early stage solid tumors and metastases is increasing worldwide. In 2013, the Italian Association of Medical Physicists (AIFM) created a working group in order to standardize the SBRT dosimetric aspects (AIFM/SBRT-WG). The aim of this study was to investigate the current status of technology and quality assurance (QA) as regards SBRT in Italy. Clinical evaluation of SBRT was beyond the scope of the present study. Methods: A pre-questionnaire was designed by three medical physicists expert in SBRT. It contained questions on 4 main aspects: technology, image-guidance solutions (IGRT), treatment planning system commissioning and QA. In early 2018, all the centers involved in the AIFM/SBRT-WG were invited to complete the online questionnaire. Results: The survey was undertaken by 45 centres (83% of them involved in the AIFM/SBRT-WG). The most available delivery system was conventional linacs with VMAT modality; 6MV and 6MV-FFF were the most common energies; robotic couch was available in 56% of centers; CBCT/MVCT was the most used IGRT technique (58% of centers) and 40% of centers adopted respiratory management during treatment delivery. The smallest measured field size for lateral beam profiles was <= 1 x 1 cm(2) in 79% of linac-based centers. Great heterogeneity in terms of protocols and guidelines for QA were found. A large number of centers (51%) felt the need to upgrade their dosimetric QA devices dedicated to SBRT. Conclusion: This survey on SBRT is a starting point in standardizing the dosimetry of SBRT verification and to improve the QA procedure
Inventory of ascidians (Tunicata, Ascidiacea) from the National Park La Restinga, Isla Margarita, Venezuela
Although ascidians form a conspicuous part of sessile assemblages in the Caribbean, no specialized inventories have been developed in Venezuela, except for a list of 15 species reported from Margarita Island (1984). Here we present the results of a taxonomic workshop held in the Universidad de Oriente, Boca del Rio, Margarita Island during April 20-25 of 2009, sponsored by the NaGISA-Caribbean Sea program. La Restinga National park was surveyed and we found 29 species belonging to 19 genera and 10 families. The most abundant colonial species were Clavelina oblonga, Aplidium accarense, Polyclinum constellatum, Distaplia bermudensis, Symplegma rubra, S. brakenhielmi, Botrylloides nigrum and Ecteinascidia turbinata. Among the solitary ascidians Phallusia nigra, Ascidia curvata, Microcosmus exasperatus, Styela canopus, Styela sp.1 and Styela sp. 2 were the most abundant. The ascidian diversity in this lagoon is one of the highest for similar habitats in the Caribbean and seven species are new registers for Venezuela (Ascidia curvata, Ecteinascidia styeloides, Aplidium accarense, Distaplia stylifera, Trididemnum orbiculatum, Symplegma rubra, and S. brakenhielmi). One point of concern for the conservation of la Restinga National Park is the presence of possible introduced species, and some management procedures are suggested
