Further refinements of the Heinz inequality

The celebrated Heinz inequality asserts that $2|||A^{1/2}XB^{1/2}|||\leq |||A^{\nu}XB^{1-\nu}+A^{1-\nu}XB^{\nu}|||\leq |||AX+XB|||$ for $X \in \mathbb{B}(\mathscr{H})$, A,B\in \+, every unitarily invariant norm $|||\cdot|||$ and $\nu \in [0,1]$. In this paper, we present several improvement of the Heinz inequality by using the convexity of the function $F(\nu)=|||A^{\nu}XB^{1-\nu}+A^{1-\nu}XB^{\nu}|||$, some integration techniques and various refinements of the Hermite--Hadamard inequality. Síndromes Auto - Inflamatórias

As síndromes auto-inflamatórias são constituídas por um grupo heterogéneo de patologias isoladas e caracterizadas ao longo dos últimos 15 anos, graças aos avanços marcados no conhecimento do genoma humano e ao desenvolvimento de técnicas laboratoriais que permitiram identificar, de forma segura e reprodutível, os genes responsáveis pelas várias doenças incluídas sob esta designação comum. Em todas estas doenças e síndromes existem episódios recorrentes de febre e inflamação, localizada ou sistémica, sem o envolvimento de agentes infecciosos ou quaisquer tipo de mecanismos auto-imunes. Neste trabalho, além da elaboração de uma classificação possível das síndromes auto-inflamatórias, dedicaremos especial atenção às síndromes periódicas associadas à criopirina (CAPS), que podem constituir importante causa de diagnóstico diferencial com a forma sistémica de artrite idiopática juvenil (AIJ), com a qual partilham numerosas características clínicas comuns

Detection of the onset of nanocrystallization by calorimetric and magnetic measurements

It is generally accepted that measurements of the magnetic properties are more sensitive than measurements of the enthalpy changes in the detection of the onset of crystallization of ferromagnetic phases emerging from a paramagnetic amorphous alloy. In this work, it is shown that the formation of a very fine nanocrystalline microstructure can make this assumption incorrect. Under some circumstances, the nanocrystallization onset temperature obtained from magnetic techniques is higher than the one obtained from enthalpy changes. Definindo a camada de gestão operacional de cursos das plataformas de e-learning, com base numa ontologia de domínio

O presente artigo pretende descrever o processo que tem sido seguido no sentido da obtenção de um referencial para a camada de gestão on line dos processos de e learning. Tal camada deverá ser desenvolvida por forma a poder integrar se no todo que constiui uma qualquer plataforma de ensino/aprendizagem utilizando tecnologias de informação e comunicação, nomeadamente aquelas que assentam o seu funcionamento nos serviços da Internet. Esta integração será viabilizada a partir da utilização de de uma abordagem comum àquela que já se verifica, relativamente à especificação das restantes camadas, em particular no âmbito do projecto SCORM. Existem diversas abordagens capazes de permitir a obtenção destes objectivos, isto é, de permitirem a obtenção dos metadados necessários à completa caracterização da camada de gestão operacional de cursos em plataformas de e-Learning. Para levar a cabo este trabalho, recorremos à escrita de uma ontologia de domínio, aplicável a este caso concreto. Tal abordagem, para além de conjugar em si todas as caratecrísticas de formalismo e rigor desejáveis, permite ainda um entendimento muito fácil do modelo desenvolvido. Photoluminescence Stokes shift and exciton fine structure in CdTe nanocrystals

The photoluminescence spectra of spherical CdTe nanocrystals with zincblende structure are studied by size-selective spectroscopic techniques. We observe a resonant Stokes shift of 15 meV when the excitation laser energy is tuned to the red side of the absorption band at 2.236 eV. The experimental data are analyzed within a symmetry-based tight-binding theory of the exciton spectrum, which is first shown to account for the size dependence of the fundamental gap reported previously in the literature. The theoretical Stokes shift presented as a function of the gap shows a good agreement with the experimental data, indicating that the measured Stokes shift indeed arises from the electron-hole exchange interaction.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, LaTe

Magnetic permeability of ( Fe Co Ge ) 88 Zr 6 B 5 Cu 1 alloys: Thermal stability in a wide temperature range.

Temperature dependence, from room temperature up to 1000 K, of the initial permeability of Fe83−xCoxGe5Zr6B5Cu1 x=5 and 20 alloys at different stages of devitrification is reported. As nanocrystallization progresses, room temperature decreases but high temperature one increases, leading to an improvement of its thermal stability extended from room temperature up to 915 K, characterized by a temperature coefficient of permeability 0.1%/K 4000 and 0.04%/K 800 for 5 and 20 at. % Co containing alloys, respectively
