Osiągnięcia gospodarcze polskiej diaspory w Mandżurii i Mongolii Wewnętrznej w latach 1898-1936

For a century and a half the Far East, including Inner Mongolia and Manchuria was the scene of endless wanderings and long sojourns of political exiles from Poland, whom Russian tyranny drove into that wilderness, and many of whom made significant contributions to the economic development of that part of Asia. In the course of time numerous Poles – partly political exiles and partly voluntary emigrants, being gifted with a spirit of enterprise – built up large industrial undertakings and made great fortunes, both in sparsely populated steppes of Inner Mongolia and vast forests of Northeastern China. Such were, for instance, the industrialist Władysław Kowalski (1870–1940) and the mining engineer Kazimierz Grochowski (1873–1937). Both of them were prominent representatives of the Polish diaspora in Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. Kowalski, widely respected by other diasporas in the area, made millions in business and became one of the most influential manufacturers as well as philanthropists across Manchuria. Grochowski, on the other hand, supervised the geological survey on the Amur, on Sakhalin and in Inner Mongolia, and found petroleum in Manchuria. The presence of Polish community in Manchuria and Inner Mongolia cannot be separated from the Russian-built Chinese Eastern Railway that linked Siberia with North China and drew people from the far reaches of the Tsarist Russia in their tens of thousands to the largely wild and uncharted region in the borderland between Russia, Inner Mongolia and Manchuria.Daleki Wschód, w tym Mongolia Wewnętrzna i Mandżuria, przez ponad półtora wieku był miejscem niekończącej się tułaczki i długoletniej zsyłki Polaków, których rosyjska tyrania wygnała na nieznane odludzia. Jednocześnie wielu z nich przyczyniło się do rozwoju gospodarczego tej części Azji. W miarę upływu czasu znacząca ilość Polaków – częściowo zesłańców politycznych, a częściowo dobrowolnych emigrantów obdarzonych duchem przedsiębiorczości – dorobiła się fortuny i zarazem przyczyniła się do budowy dużych manufaktur, zarówno na terenie słabo zaludnionych stepów Mongolii Wewnętrznej, jak i rozległych lasów północno-wschodnich Chin. Przykładem tego mogą być losy przedsiębiorcy Władysława Kowalskiego (1870-1940) i inżyniera Kazimierza Grochowskiego (1873-1937), którzy byli wybitnymi przedstawicielami polskiej diaspory w Mandżurii i Mongolii Wewnętrznej

System and hardware security options available for users on devices running Android operating system

Producer of Android operating system have been trying to offer ways to protect digital data on devices since 1st version of this platform. Development of possibilities of operating system and new technological solutions allows to launch more innovate protections, which are not only more secure, but also very comfortable in everyday usage. This article presents comparison of available solutions, both in terms of the best protection and convenience of usage. The topic of convenience of usage required research to collect information about the most popular configurations among users. The analysis of security level of available locks and obtained results allowed to verify whether owners of devices running Android operating system are properly securing digital data stored in internal memory of their device

Rola tekstu w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego na poziomie podstawowym

W artykule zostało omówione zagadnienie tekstu jako głównego składnika lekcji języka polskiego w środowisku wschodniosłowiańskim. Pokrewieństwo języków słowiańskich ułatwia naukę słownictwa i pozwala wykładowcy na wprowadzenie bardziej skomplikowanych tekstów. Ponieważ dzisiejsze podręczniki polskie dla cudzoziemców preferują krótsze formy tekstowe, np. dialogi, autorki sugerują konieczność napisania nowego podręcznika i krótko przedstawiają własny projekt.The article deals with the issue of the text as the main element in the process of teaching Polish to foreigners of East European origin. Because the students’ native languages are closely related to Polish, East Europeans are able to learn Polish vocabulary faster than other foreigners. The teacher may thus introduce more complicated texts to present and practice vocabulary. As today’s Polish textbooks for foreigners prefer shorter text forms, e.g. dialogues, the authors of the article suggest that a new textbook should be written – one applying the described approach, and they briefly introduce the project launched in Belarus

Erdheim-Chester disease: a rare cause of bilateral renal artery stenosis, mimicking large vessel vasculitis

A man in his 50s with resistant hypertension and history of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) was referred to rheumatology after suspicion of inflammatory arteritis was raised. This followed detection of bilateral renal artery stenosis during investigation for severe hypertension refractory to medical therapy. CT angiography revealed diffuse wall thickening of the abdominal aorta, in keeping with an aortitis. However, there was no serological or clinical evidence suggestive of a vasculitic process. Medical history included cranial diabetes insipidus, subclavian artery stenosis and spinal stenosis requiring surgery, over the course of 8 years. These findings led to consideration of Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD), a form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis, where there is abnormal proliferation of histiocytes which causes tissue fibrosis and sclerosis of the long bones. Subsequent plain radiographs of the long bones revealed appearances consistent with a diagnosis of ECD. Thus, a diagnosis of an LCH/ECD overlap syndrome was made

The regulatory body, established to ensure safety of nuclear facilities, is expected to make right decisions and provide appropriate regulations for the nuclear industry. The traditional manner of its activity has been based on a deterministic approach to safety analyses. However, increased maturity of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) makes it complementary to deterministic studies. The new IAEA concept, described in this article, is to apply an integrated approach by combining both deterministic and probabilistic insights with other requirements affecting the decision making process.Organ regulacyjny, powołany w celu zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa jądrowego, jest odpowiedzialny za podejmowanie decyzji i wprowadzanie rozporządzeń dla przemysłu jądrowego. Determining Curie temperature of (Ga,Mn)As samples based on electrical transport measurements: low Curie temperature case

In this paper we show that the widely accepted method of the determination of Curie temperature (TC) in (Ga,Mn)As samples, based on the position of the peak in the temperature derivative of the resistivity,completely fails in the case of non-metallic and low-TC unannealed samples. In this case we propose an alternative method, also based on electric transport measurements, which exploits temperature dependence of the second derivative of the resistivity upon magnetic field.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

ZASTOSOWANIE IRIDM W PROCESIE DECYZYJNYM DOTYCZĄCYM KONWERSJI PALIWA W REAKTORZE MARIA

Poland, when acceded to GTRI (Global Threat Reduction Initiative) in 2004, has committed to convert the nuclear fuel of the Research Reactor MARIA, operated by the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Świerk. The conversion means giving up of high enriched uranium fuel containing 36% of U-235, which was used so far, and replacing it with the low enriched uranium fuel (19.7% U-235). This article describes the potential usability of the Integrated Risk Informed Decision Making (IRIDM) methodology in optimization of the fuel conversion procedure.Polska, przystępując w 2004 roku do programu GTRI (Inicjatywa Redukcji Zagrożeń Globalnych), zobowiązała się do konwersji paliwa jądrowego w reaktorze badawczym MARIA, eksploatowanym przez Narodowe Centrum Badań Jądrowych (NCBJ) w Świerku. Konwersja ta oznacza rezygnację z dotychczas użytkowanego paliwa, zawierającego 36% U-235 i zastąpienie go paliwem nisko wzbogaconym (19.7% U-235). The reference facility for which the analysis has been made was Surry Nuclear Power Plant located in the United States. This work includes AFWS fault tree development and qualitative analysis using the SAPHIRE code, as well as the uncertainty assessment by applying the Monte Carlo techniques.Celem niniejszej pracy było określenie prawdopodobieństwa awarii pomocniczego systemu wody zasilającej reaktora typu PWR firmy Westinghouse.
