Black soliton in a quasi-one-dimensional trapped fermion-fermion mixture
Employing a time-dependent mean-field-hydrodynamic model we study the
generation of black solitons in a degenerate fermion-fermion mixture in a
cigar-shaped geometry using variational and numerical solutions. The black
soliton is found to be the first stationary vibrational excitation of the
system and is considered to be a nonlinear continuation of the vibrational
excitation of the harmonic oscillator state. We illustrate the stationary
nature of the black soliton, by studying different perturbations on it after
its formation.Comment: 7 pages, 10 figure
Scattering of positronium by H, He, Ne, and Ar
The low-energy scattering of ortho positronium (Ps) by H, He, Ne, and Ar
atoms has been investigated in the coupled-channel framework by using a
recently proposed time-reversal-symmetric nonlocal electron-exchange model
potential with a single parameter . For H and He we use a three-Ps-state
coupled-channel model and for Ar and Ne we use a static-exchange model. The
sensitivity of the results is studied with respect to the parameter .
Present low-energy cross sections for He, Ne and Ar are in good agreement with
experiment.Comment: 8 pages Latex with 4 postscript figure
A Discrete Event System approach to On-line Testing of digital circuits with measurement limitation
AbstractIn the present era of complex systems like avionics, industrial processes, electronic circuits, etc., on-the-fly or on-line fault detection is becoming necessary to provide uninterrupted services. Measurement limitation based fault detection schemes are applied to a wide range of systems because sensors cannot be deployed in all the locations from which measurements are required. This paper focuses towards On-Line Testing (OLT) of faults in digital electronic circuits under measurement limitation using the theory of discrete event systems. Most of the techniques presented in the literature on OLT of digital circuits have emphasized on keeping the scheme non-intrusive, low area overhead, high fault coverage, low detection latency etc. However, minimizing tap points (i.e., measurement limitation) of the circuit under test (CUT) by the on-line tester was not considered. Minimizing tap points reduces load on the CUT and this reduces the area overhead of the tester. However, reduction in tap points compromises fault coverage and detection latency. This work studies the effect of minimizing tap points on fault coverage, detection latency and area overhead. Results on ISCAS89 benchmark circuits illustrate that measurement limitation have minimal impact on fault coverage and detection latency but reduces the area overhead of the tester. Further, it was also found that for a given detection latency and fault coverage, area overhead of the proposed scheme is lower compared to other similar schemes reported in the literature
Vitamin D receptor expression levels determine the severity and complexity of disease progression among leprosy reaction patients
AbstractWe studied the roles of vitamin D and its receptor, VDR, in the progression of leprosy. The majority of individuals with leprosy from Kolkata, India, with a type 1 or type 2 reaction have low levels of vitamin D3 in serum samples. Interestingly, individuals with a type 2 reaction associated with neuritis/erythema nodosum leprosum had very low VDR mRNA expression levels, ranging from 5% to 10%, compared to that of healthy control subjects; these patients also had a high bacilli index, ranging from 3+ to 5+. This is the first report to indicate that VDR expression levels may determine the complexity and severity of the progression of leprosy

The conventional methods often produce agglomerated structures exhibiting lower strength and ductility. To overcome the cohesive force of the agglomerates, a melt conditioned high-pressure die casting
(MC-HPDC) process innovatively adapts the well-established, high-shear dispersive mixing action of a twin screw mechanism. The distribution of particles and properties of composites are quantitatively evaluated.
The adopted rheo process significantly improved the distribution of the reinforcement in the matrix with a strong interfacial bond between the two. A good combination of improved ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and tensile elongation (e) is obtained compared with composites produced by conventional processes.EPSR
Rescheduling of wet season (T. Aman) rice planting for cropping intensification in coastal Bangladesh
About 1.0 million ha coastal lands in Bangladesh are mono-cropped suffer from varying degree of soil salinity, waterlogging and climate vulnerability. Low yielding, traditional T. Aman rice is grown only in wet season. Growing non-rice crop after late harvested T. Aman rice is not profitable. This study was aimed to introduce high yielding, short duration T. Aman rice varieties for advancing its harvesting time and to make the avenue for timely establishment of dry season crops. Varietal trials were made at Dacope and Amtali under ACIAR funded project during 2016-2018 and compared with local cultivars. Among tested varieties BRRI dhan76 followed by BRRI dhan77 and BRRI dhan54 in Dacope and BRRI dhan77 followed by BRRI dhan76 and BRRI dhan54 in Amtali were preferred for 0.5–1.0 tha−1 yield advantage and 15–25 days earliness compared to traditional varieties. Early harvesting of T. Aman created the avenue of timely establishment of rice and non-rice crops depending on availability of fresh water and thus crop intensification and land productivity was improved. The new cropping system increased annual rice yield and farmers’ profits by 1.5- to 2-folds compared with traditional system without environmental degradation. This technique can be replicated in similar coastal zones of Bangladesh
Salmonella Typhi stool shedding by enteric fever patients and asymptomatic chronic carriers in an endemic urban setting.
The burden of Salmonella Typhi shedding in stool and its contribution to transmission in endemic settings is unknown. During passive surveillance S. Typhi shedding was seen during convalescence in 332 bacteremic typhoid patients although none persisted at one-year follow-up. Anti-Vi-IgG titres were measured in age-stratified cohort of serosurveillance participants. Systematic stool sampling of 303 participants with high anti-Vi-IgG titres identified one asymptomatic carrier shedding. These findings suggest ongoing S. Typhi transmission in this setting is more likely to occur from acute convalescent cases although better approaches are needed to identify true chronic carriers in the community to enable typhoid elimination
Crystal electric field and possible coupling with phonons in Kondo lattice CeCuGa3
We investigate the magnetic and crystal electric field (CEF) states of the
Kondo lattice system CeCuGa3 by muon spin relaxation (muSR), neutron
diffraction, and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements. A
noncentrosymmetric BaNiSn3-type tetragonal crystal structure (space group I4mm)
is inferred from x-ray as well as from neutron powder diffraction. The
low-temperature magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity data show an anomaly
near 2.3 - 2.5~K associated with long range magnetic ordering, which is further
confirmed by muSR and neutron diffraction data. The neutron powder diffraction
collected at 1.7 K shows the presence of magnetic Bragg peaks indexed by an
incommensurate magnetic propagation vector k = (0.148, 0.148, 0) and the
magnetic structure is best described by a longitudinal spin density wave with
ordered moments lying in ab-plane. An analysis of the INS data based on a CEF
model reveals the presence of two magnetic excitations near 4.5 meV and 6.9
meV. The magnetic heat capacity data suggest an overall CEF splitting of 20.7
meV, however the excitation between 20 and 30 meV is very broad and weak in our
INS data, but could provide an evidence of CEF level in this energy range in
agreement with the magnetic entropy. Our analysis of INS data based on the
CEF-phonon model indicates that the two excitations at 4.5 meV and 6.9 meV have
their origin in CEF-phonon coupling (i.e. splitting of one CEF peak into two
peaks, called vibron), with an overall splitting of 28.16 meV, similar to the
case of CeCuAl3 and CeAuAl3.Comment: 13 pages, 14 figure
Complete Break Up of Ortho Positronium (Ps)- Hydrogenic ion System
The dynamics of the complete breakup process in an Ortho Ps - He+ system
including electron loss to the continuum (ELC) is studied where both the
projectile and the target get ionized. The process is essentially a four body
problem and the present model takes account of the two centre effect on the
electron ejected from the Ps atom which is crucial for a proper description of
the ELC phenomena. The calculations are performed in the framework of Coulomb
Distorted Eikonal Approximation. The exchange effect between the target and the
projectile electron is taken into account in a consistent manner. The proper
asymptotic 3-body boundary condition for this ionization process is also
satisfied in the present model. A distinct broad ELC peak is noted in the fully
differential cross sections (5DCS) for the Ps electron corroborating
qualitatively the experiment for the Ps - He system. Both the dynamics of the
ELC from the Ps and the ejected electron from the target He+ in the FDCS are
studied using coplanar geometry. Interesting features are noted in the FDCS for
both the electrons belonging to the target and the projectile.Comment: 14 pages,7 figure
