Nonholonomic systems with symmetry allowing a conformally symplectic reduction
Non-holonomic mechanical systems can be described by a degenerate
almost-Poisson structure (dropping the Jacobi identity) in the constrained
space. If enough symmetries transversal to the constraints are present, the
system reduces to a nondegenerate almost-Poisson structure on a ``compressed''
space. Here we show, in the simplest non-holonomic systems, that in favorable
circumnstances the compressed system is conformally symplectic, although the
``non-compressed'' constrained system never admits a Jacobi structure (in the

Goals, Strategies and First Discoveries of AO327, the Arecibo All-Sky 327 MHz Drift Pulsar Survey
We report initial results from AO327, a drift survey for pulsars with the
Arecibo telescope at 327 MHz. The first phase of AO327 will cover the sky at
declinations of -1 to 28 degrees, excluding the region within 5 degrees of the
Galactic plane, where high scattering and dispersion make low-frequency surveys
sub-optimal. We record data from a 57 MHz bandwidth with 1024 channels and 125
us sampling time. The 60 s transit time through the AO327 beam means that the
survey is sensitive to very tight relativistic binaries even with no
acceleration searches. To date we have detected 44 known pulsars with periods
ranging from 3 ms to 2.21 s and discovered 24 new pulsars. The new discoveries
include three millisecond pulsars, three objects with periods of a few tens of
milliseconds typical of young as well as mildly recycled pulsars, a nuller, and
a rotating radio transient. Five of the new discoveries are in binary systems.
The second phase of AO327 will cover the sky at declinations of 28 to 38
degrees. We compare the sensitivity and search volume of AO327 to the Green
Bank North Celestial Cap survey and the GBT350 drift survey, both of which

Opportunities to demonstrate expertise and job satisfaction of community pharmacists in Japan and England
Background: In response to anticipated increased health needs as a consequence of aging populations, and associated rising co-morbidity and medicines use, in both Japan and the UK potential extended roles for community pharmacy are part of health policy agendas. It is widely perceived that community pharmacists do not fully utilize their expertise, which may limit their contribution to health care in their communities and also impact negatively on their own job satisfaction. Purpose: The aim of this qualitative study was to identify operations that are perceived as opportunities to demonstrate expertise (ODE) and/or sources of job satisfaction by pharmacists in Japan and England, and explore associated system and contextual factors. Methods: Data were gathered with purposively selected pharmacists in Japan and England. An initial questionnaire was forwarded which guided subsequent face-to-face semi-structured interviews. These were audio-recoded to enable qualitative analytical procedures. Results: There were 18 participants in England and 13 in Japan. There was a notable association between ODE and job satisfaction. However, ODE was not a sufficient condition for job satisfaction. Conclusion: In order for pharmacists to be satisfied with their jobs, not only ODE but also additional contextual factors, i.e. recognition of professionalism, autonomy and positive collaboration were also needed. The findings can inform initiatives in the development of pharmacy services that would be positive for pharmacists whilst potentially contributing to wider public health objectives
Black Ring Deconstruction
We present a sample microstate for a black ring in four and five dimensional
language. The microstate consists of a black string microstate with an
additional D6-brane. We show that with an appropriate choice of parameters the
piece involving the black string microstate falls down a long AdS throat, whose
M-theory lift is AdS_3 X S^2. We wrap a spinning dipole M2-brane on the S^2 in
the probe approximation. In IIA, this corresponds to a dielectric D2-brane
carrying only D0-charge. We conjecture this is the first approximation to a
cloud of D0-branes blowing up due to their non-abelian degrees of freedom and

RISE: a fast-readout imager for exoplanet transit timing
By the precise timing of the low amplitude (0.005 - 0.02 magnitude) transits
of exoplanets around their parent star it should be possible to infer the
presence of other planetary bodies in the system down to Earth-like masses. We
describe the design and construction of RISE, a fast-readout frame transfer
camera for the Liverpool Telescope designed to carry out this experiment. The
results of our commissioning tests are described as well as the data reduction
procedure necessary. We present light curves of two objects, showing that the
desired timing and photometric accuracy can be obtained providing that
autoguiding is used to keep the target on the same detector pixel for the

Computing the Casimir energy using the point-matching method
We use a point-matching approach to numerically compute the Casimir
interaction energy for a two perfect-conductor waveguide of arbitrary section.
We present the method and describe the procedure used to obtain the numerical
results. At first, our technique is tested for geometries with known solutions,
such as concentric and eccentric cylinders. Then, we apply the point-matching
technique to compute the Casimir interaction energy for new geometries such as
concentric corrugated cylinders and cylinders inside conductors with focal

Strong-Segregation Theory of Bicontinuous Phases in Block Copolymers
We compute phase diagrams for starblock copolymers in the
strong-segregation regime as a function of volume fraction , including
bicontinuous phases related to minimal surfaces (G, D, and P surfaces) as
candidate structures. We present the details of a general method to compute
free energies in the strong segregation limit, and demonstrate that the gyroid
G phase is the most nearly stable among the bicontinuous phases considered. We
explore some effects of conformational asymmetry on the topology of the phase
