Production and Decay of the Lambda_c Charmed Baryon from Fermilab E791
Results are presented for the 500 GeV/c pion production asymmetry and
polarization of the Lambda_c (anti-Lanbda_c) charmed baryon from Fermilab
experiment E791. An analysis of the decay to the p anti-K pi final state is
described. Resonant sub-channel fractions and phases are given and possible
resonant effects in the low mass p anti-K system discussed. Significant decay
to Lambda_c --> Delta++ K- establishes for the first time the importance of a W

Estimating the minimally important difference (MID) of the Diabetes Health Profile-18 (DHP-18) for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Aims: The DHP-18 is a widely used measure of health related quality of life in diabetes mellitus but it is unclear what constitutes a meaningful change in score on each domain. The aim of this study was to establish estimates for the minimally important difference (MID) for each of the domains.
Methods: The MID for each domain was estimated using both anchor and distribution based approaches which were applied to data from both the United Kingdom and France. A range of anchors were tested.
Results: A global health change anchor was found to be more acceptable for Type 1 diabetes than for Type 2. MID estimates varied by domain, by estimation approach used, and by diabetes type. For Type 1 diabetes the Psychological Distress domain estimates ranged from 2.86 to 11.05, Barriers to Activity domain from 2.87 to 11.32 and Disinhibited Eating domain from 1.03 to 11.53. For Type 2 diabetes the Psychological Distress estimates ranged from 0.94 to 9.71; Barriers to Activity from 1.66 to 9.88 and Disinhibited Eating from 0.90 to 11.64.
Conclusions: This is the first attempt to derive estimates for the MID of an English language measure of health related quality of life in diabetes. For Type 1 diabetes we recommend using the mean MID value using both approaches. For Type 2 we recommend applying more weight to the distribution based estimations. The MID values identified in this study will help clinicians and researchers using the DHP-18 to identify clinically meaningful change in patient reported outcomes
Latrunculin A delays anaphase onset in fission yeast by disrupting an ase1-independent pathway controlling mitotic spindle stability
It has been proposed previously that latrunculin A, an inhibitor of actin polymerization, delays the onset of anaphase by causing spindle misorientation in fission yeast. However, we show that {Delta}mto1 cells, which are defective in nucleation of cytoplasmic microtubules, have profoundly misoriented spindles but are not delayed in the timing of sister chromatid separation, providing compelling evidence that fission yeast does not possess a spindle orientation checkpoint. Instead, we show that latrunculin A delays anaphase onset by disrupting interpolar microtubule stability. This effect is abolished in a latrunculin A-insensitive actin mutant and exacerbated in cells lacking Ase1, which cross-links antiparallel interpolar microtubules at the spindle midzone both before and after anaphase. These data indicate that both Ase1 and an intact actin cytoskeleton are required for preanaphase spindle stability. Finally, we show that loss of Ase1 activates a checkpoint that requires only the Mad3, Bub1, and Mph1, but not Mad1, Mad2, or Bub3 checkpoint proteins
A systematic review and economic evaluation of subcutaneous and sublingual allergen immunotherapy in adults and children with seasonal allergic rhinitis

Immunotherapy involves administering increasing doses of a specific allergen, with the aim of reducing sensitivity and symptomatic reactions. Recent meta-analyses have concluded that both subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) are more effective than placebo in reducing symptoms. Unmarried Fathers’ Earnings Trajectories: Does Partnership Status Matter?
Married men earn more than unmarried men. Previous research suggests that marriage itself causes some of the difference, but includes few men who fathered children out of wedlock. This paper asks whether increasing marriage (and possibly cohabitation) following a non-marital birth is likely to increase fathers’ earnings and labor supply. The analyses are based on a new birth cohort study the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study which follows unmarried parents for the first five years after their child’s birth. Near-infrared oxygen airglow from the Venus nightside
Groundbased imaging and spectroscopic observations of Venus reveal intense near-infrared oxygen airglow emission from the upper atmosphere and provide new constraints on the oxygen photochemistry and dynamics near the mesopause (approximately 100 km). Atomic oxygen is produced by the Photolysis of CO2 on the dayside of Venus. These atoms are transported by the general circulation, and eventually recombine to form molecular oxygen. Because this recombination reaction is exothermic, many of these molecules are created in an excited state known as O2(delta-1). The airglow is produced as these molecules emit a photon and return to their ground state. New imaging and spectroscopic observations acquired during the summer and fall of 1991 show unexpected spatial and temporal variations in the O2(delta-1) airglow. The implications of these observations for the composition and general circulation of the upper venusian atmosphere are not yet understood but they provide important new constraints on comprehensive dynamical and chemical models of the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere of Venus
Automating Security Analysis: Symbolic Equivalence of Constraint Systems
We consider security properties of cryptographic protocols, that are either trace properties (such as confidentiality or authenticity) or equivalence properties (such as anonymity or strong secrecy). Infinite sets of possible traces are symbolically represented using deducibility constraints. We give a new algorithm that decides the trace equivalence for the traces that are represented using such constraints, in the case of signatures, symmetric and asymmetric encryptions. Our algorithm is implemented and performs well on typical benchmarks. This is the first implemented algorithm, deciding symbolic trace equivalence
