A fonológia és a morfológia analógia-alapú formális megközelítése = Analogy-based Formal Approach to Phonology and Morphology

A kutatásban két fő területre összpontosultak feladataim: (i) egy fonetikai alapú fonológiai modell kidolgozása, és integrálhatósága, illetve összevetése analógiás modell(ekk)el. Ez a kutatási terület hozzájárul a mássalhangzó-csoportok fonetikai tulajdonságainak, illetve fonetikai (percepciós) tényekhez való lehorgonyozhatóságának a tanulmányozásához, valamint a fonotaktikai jelöltség univerzális tipológiai vizsgálatához. Kidolgoztunk egy aerodinamikai alapú fonológiai modellt, ehhez számos akusztikai és percepciós kísérletet végeztünk el. A vizsgálat során főként a v kétarcú fonológiai viselkedésére sikerült jó magyarázatot találnunk (Dr. Kiss Zoltánnal) a magyar és a szlovák nyelvben. A modell tovább gondolható a többi zöngés frikatíva (z, zs) fonológiai és fonotaktikai tulajdonságainak magyarázatánál. (ii) az analógiás modell(ek) magyar nyelven túlmutató alkalmazhatóságának vizsgálata más bonyolult fonotaktikájú nyelvekre, különös tekintettel a különleges mássalhangzó-kapcsolatairól ismert, de a generatív fonológiában viszonylag kevéssé tanulmányozott szlovák nyelvre. A vizsgálat során bemutattam, hogy az olyan bonyolult fonotaktikák, mint a szlovák szóeleji mássalhangzó-kapcsolatok, melyeket hagyományos nyelvtani modellekkel nem tudunk megragadni, sokkal jobban magyarázhatók graduális nyelvtani modellekkel és analógiás modellekkel, valamint ezek kombinációjával. A vizsgálat során egy nagy pszicholingvisztikai kísérletet végeztem szlovák anyanyelvű beszélőkkel. | In the present research I had two main tasks: (i) to develop a phonetically-based phonological model and to contrast and accomodate it with analogical models. This research contributes to the study of the phonetic properties of consonant clusters and to their anchoring to phonetic (perceptual) facts, and to the study of phonotactic typology. We (with Dr. Zoltán Kiss) have developed a aerodynamic phonological model, carried out a number of acoustic and perception experiments. We found an adequate explanation for the double-faced phonological behavior of v in Hungarian and Slovak. The model can be extended to the study of the phonological and phonotactic properties of other voiced fricatives (z and zh). (ii) to test the adaptability of analogical models to other languages, especially Slovak a language well-known for its complex word-initial phonotactis, but little studied in generative grammar. I have shown that such complex phonotactic patterns like word-initial consonant clusters in Slovak can better be accounted for by gradual grammatical models and analogical models and the combination of these. The acquisition of voicing assimilation by advanced Hungarian learners of Spanish

This study examines the effect of explicit phonological instruction on the acquisition of variable /s/ voicing in Spanish by advanced Hungarian learners. Hungarian and Spanish have very similar yet not identical voicing assimilation (VA) systems; the most important difference lies in the pre-sonorant context as sonorant consonants trigger voicing assimilation in Spanish but not in Hungarian. Data were collected in acoustic experiments from 7 native speakers of Northern Peninsular Spanish and 12 Hungarian university students, advanced learners of Spanish. The latter group was tested twice: before and after a three-month Spanish phonetics and phonology course. Our data reveals that this amount of instruction is not enough for L2 speakers to overcome their L1 VA system, which might be attributed in part to the variable, allophonic nature of the process, the similarity between the two languages’ VA systems and lack of exposure to the relevant dialect
