Over the course of this project, I have focused on Circle Process, examining ways to be in authentic, accountable, and reciprocal relationship with Indigenous communities where Circle Process originates

Breast Cancer Screening in Racialized Women: Implications for Health Equity

Inequalities across the breast cancer continuum due to racialization have significantly affected women's access to screening programs, diagnosis, treatment and survival. To ensure there is equitable access to quality care there needs to be a better understanding of broader systemic issues. Despite the existence of breast cancer prevention strategies across Canada, inequitable access to screening has barred many women from receiving adequate medical attention. More than half of recent immigrants (those who have been in Canada for less than 10 years) who are eligible for screening did not utilize the program in the previous two years compared to 26 percent of Canadian-born women. Currently, prevention through screening is the primary form of breast cancer control in Canada, thus the differential access to screening among social, geographic, demographic and racial groups can severely affect one's chances of surviving. This paper provides an overview of inequitable outcomes across the breast cancer continuum due to racialization, with a particular focus on screening. It provides a brief description of racial and ethnic differences in screening utilization, diagnosis and survival drawing on local, national, and international data. It also provides a summary of important barriers to screening in racialized and ethnic minority women. It concludes with implications for Ontario and the Greater TorontoArea (GTA), and identifies possible directions forward.Racial, ethnic and socioeconomic differences in breast cancer screening have an important impact on the chance of both developing and dying from breast cancer. Therefore, we must acknowledge the negative impact of racialization and racism on health outcomes in Canada. In order to adequately address this problem, there is a need for community-based research that allows us to gain better insight into the perceptions, lived experiences and the multiple and often competing needs of women across racialized and immigrant communities in Ontario

Race and Assisted Reproduction: Implications for Population Health

This Article emerges from Fordham Law Review’s Symposium on the fiftieth anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, the case that found antimiscegenation laws unconstitutional. Inspired by the need to interrogate the regulation of race in the context of family, this Article examines the diffuse regulatory environment around assisted reproductive technology (ART) that shapes procreative decisions and the inequalities that these decisions may engender. ART both centers biology and raises questions about how we imagine our racial futures in the context of family, community, and nation. Importantly, ART demonstrates how both the state and private actors shape family formation along racial lines. By placing a discussion about race and ART in the context of access to new health technologies, this Article argues that assisted reproduction has population-level effects that mirror broader racial disparities in health. In turn, this Article intervenes in a bioethics debate that frequently ignores inequalities in access when thinking through the consequences of ART. Part I presents a case study of the Sperm Bank of California (SBC) to demonstrate how ART represents a new mode of governing the family that facilitates and encourages the formati on and creation of monoracial families. Part II borrows a public health analytic, the “burdens of disease, to explain how the (re)production of monoracial fa milies has consequences for health at the population level, especially when placed in the context of racially disparate access to ART services. Ultimately, this Article concludes that ART, as it is currently accessed and utilized, maintains racial orders with regard to health given the in equality in access to these services

This study aimed to describe the effect of learning model and learning motivation on studets' learning achievements in mathematics. This research was conducted at SMAN 2 Palu using a quasi-experimental design with factorial 2 ´ 2. The independent variable in this study is learning model and learning motivation. The dependent variable is the students' mathematics learning achievements. Instruments used in the form of learning motivation questionnaire and achievement test. These samples students of class XI-IPA taken using random sampling techniques. Analysis of data using analysis of variance two-lane. Results showed (1) there is a significant difference the mathematics learning achievements of students between who are taught trough active learning model and direct learning; (2) there is a significant difference the mathematics learning achievements of students beetween high learning motivation and student learning achievements learning motivation is low; (3) there is an interaction between learning active learning model and learning motivation of students; (4) specifically for low motivation students who are taught by active learning model mathematics learning achievements was higher than students taught with direct learning; (5) specifically for high motivation students who are taught by active learning model mathematics learning achievements was lower than students taught with direct learning; (6) specifically for active learning model students who have high motivation to mathematics learning achievements higher than the students who have low motivation, and (7) specifically for direct learning model students who have high motivation to mathematics learning achievements higher than the students who have low motivation
