    DESIGNING ENGLISH SYLLABUS FOR DINIYAH PROGRAM BASED ON STUDENTS’ NEED ANALYSIS AT BABUSSALAM SELAYAR

    This research aims to design an English syllabus for Diniyah Program at Al-Qur'an Babussalam Islamic Boarding School Selayar. The research design used in this research was Research and Development (R&D) by Richey and Klein. Types of data obtained in this research were qualitative and quantitative. The researchers used a questionnaire and interview guidance as the instrument to obtain the data. This research showed that 1) speaking skill is the priority for the students: In linguistic needs, students' learning abilities are fair in vocabulary and pronunciation but less in grammar. While vocabulary is the priority, then pronunciation, and the last is grammar. There are twelve real-life topics for learning vocabulary, and pronunciation and basic grammar become integral parts of each lesson. In learning needs, vocabulary learning preferences are memorizing, communicating, listening, and repeating. While learning by imitating, from the dictionary and the recording are the pronunciation learning preferences. In terms of learning style, talking to friends in English, talking in pairs, and role play are the three highest. 2) The design syllabus is based on students' needs. 3) The syllabus validation by the experts' judgment clarified that the syllabus had been designed can be used with a bit of revision

    GENDER ANALYSIS ON TALK DOMINANCE IN GROUP DISCUSSION OF ENGLISH AMONG STUDENTS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT AT UIN ALAUDDIN MAKASSAR

    This study aims to prove the difference in talk dominance between the male group and the female group in English Education Department batch 2019 at UIN Alauddin Makassar.Moreover, this study was conducted to know the factors that cause the occurrence of talk dominance in the English Education Department batch 2019 at UIN Alauddin Makassar. This study used a qualitative descriptive design to prove whether there is talk dominance between the male group and the female group in the English Education Department batch 2019 at UIN Alauddin Makassar,. The data were taken from classroom observations via Zoom application when the students were discussing. The data were analyzed based on the theory of Kaharuddin and Ismail (2017:146) in which there were four stages: collection, identification, classification, and explanation. To find out the factors that led to the talk dominance, the researcher made questions on Google form and distributed them to 42 students of the English Education Department batch 2019 at UIN Alauddin Makassar. The result showed that there were 88 sentences produced by the students (male and female). There were 25 sentences produced by the male group and 63 by the female group. There it can be concluded that women's groups dominated the discussion. Furthermore, the factors for the occurrence of talk dominance were; intelligence factors, learning motivation factors, learning strategy factors, learning facilities, teacher responses, and the influence of friends.                                                   Keywords: Gender Analysis, Speaking, Talk Dominance, Group Discussion       &nbsp

    Using Youtube Music Video to Improve transactional Speaking Skills at The Second Grade Students Of SMA Negeri 3 Sinjai

    The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of YouTube Music Video in teaching transactional speaking skills at the second grade of SMA Negri 3 Sinjai Timur. The pre-experimental research with pre-test and post-test was implemented as the design of the research. The population of this research was the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Sinjai Timur who enrolled in the academic year 2020/2021 consist of 30 students. The technique sampling used in this research was random sampling. The sample of this research is class XI MIA 2 consists of 15 students, the instrument used to collect data was the speaking test. The data were analysed by descriptive and inferential technique statistic.   The result of the research presented that the pre-test of the class got a mean score of 31.26. After giving treatment the students got a mean score of 62.86. The outcome of the data analysis revealed that there was a significant improvement in students’ transactional speaking skills using YouTube Music Video. Subsequently, it was also supported by the result of one sample t-test where Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05. This implies that the treatment had a significant main effect on the students’ transactional speaking skills achievement. Therefore the null (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Based on the result analysis, the researcher may conclude that using YouTube Music Video was effective to improve the students Transactional Speaking skills especially at Class XI MIA 2 at SMA Negeri 3 Sinjai Timur

    GENDER ANALYSIS ON SLANG LANGUAGE IN STUDENTS DAILY CONVERSATION

    his research aimed at finding out the gender analysis on slang language used by the eight semester students of English Education Department in their daily conversation at UIN Alauddin Makassar. The researcher applied qualitative descriptive research. The participant of this research was the eight semester students of English Education Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar which consisted of 10 students. The participants were taken by using purposive sampling technique which consisted of 5 male students and also 5 female students. The data were collected through interviews and observations. The result of the data indicated that slang language used by the eight semester students of English Education Department in their daily conversation were slang in theater, art slang, public school or university slang as well as society slang. Besides, the male and female slang language was different caused of some factors such as situation and condition, age and politeness, as well as gender itself. There was a significant difference between male and female students’ percentage in using slang language. The mean score of male percentage in using slang language (66.48) while female only (33.50).Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher drew a conclusion that male and female students of English Education Department used slang language in different way and also frequency

    This research aims at finding the Contribution of Teachers’ Pedagogical Competence toward the Effectiveness of Teaching of English at MTsN Balang-Balang. This research used the qualitative descriptive research, that is the researcher observe the teaching and learning process and interact with the teacher by interview and observation. The researcher found that the contribution of teachers pedagogy competence toward the effectiveness of teaching of English, seems the teacher have made serious effort in conducting the teaching and learning to make more effective in teaching of English in the class. This contribution seen from how they organize the learning from arranged the teaching plan, teaching and learning process, and assessment. The teachers were also able to motivate the students to attend the class, induce the students to learn the material as well as explain the material clearly so that the students could comprehend it easily. Furthermore, the students were also active in asking and answering questions both from the teacher. In the section of discussion, the students were also able to conclude the materials taught during the teaching and learning process. It means that teacher’s pedagogy competence could improve students’ motivation to learn

    This research aims to describe the teacher’s competence in the application of strengthening the character education of learners in the 2013 curriculum at Public Elementary School 043 Kebundalam in Wonomulyo District, Polman. It was descriptive qualitative research with pedagogical, sociological, and psychological approaches. Data collection used observation, interview and documentation methods. Data processing and analysis techniques were data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The validity of the data used triangulation techniques. The results showed the competence of teachers in Public Elementary School 043 Kebundalam, there were teachers with the ability to develop teaching materials that were still lacking but had an educational learning application strategy that shows teachers had personality competencies because they were able to be good examples for learners. The character formed in learners was religious, disciplined, and social care but the character of discipline that still needs to be reviewed and re-strengthened. Factors inhibiting teachers in implementing the 2013 curriculum were the teacher readiness, support from schools and government. The suggestion was the Principal should maintain the competence of the teacher and improve the competence that is still not maximal. Teachers do more coaching on the character value of the discipline of learners. Parents of each learner foster and familiarize learners to always be kind.  Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi guru dalam penerapan penguatan pendidikan karakter peserta didik pada kurikulum 2013 di SDN 043 Kebundalam Kecamatan Wonomulyo, Polman. Penelitian merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan pedagogik, sosiologis, dan psikologis. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik pengolahan dan analisis data yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi data. Keabsahan data menggunakan teknik triangulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kompetensi guru di SDN 043 Kebundalam terdapat guru dengan kemampuan mengembangkan materi ajar yang masih kurang tetapi memiliki strategi penerapan pembelajaran yang mendidik sehingga menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki kompetensi kepribadian karena mampu menjadi teladan yang baik bagi peserta didik. Karakter yang terbentuk pada peserta didik yaitu religius, disiplin, dan peduli sosial namun karakter disiplin yang masih perlu untuk ditinjau kembali dan dilakukan penguatan ulang. Faktor penghambat guru dalam menerapkan kurikulum 2013 adalah faktor kesiapan guru, dukungan dari sekolah, dan juga pemerintah. Dengan demikian, kepala Sekolah hendaknya mempertahankan kompetensi guru yang dimilikinya dan meningkatkan kompetensi yang masih belum maksimal.     This study aims to determine the implementation in fostering an Islamic personality for children whose mothers are career women at Watampone. This type of research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, which describes reality in accordance with the phenomena in the field. Sources of data are career women in Watampone, research instruments are observation and interview. The results of this study indicate that career women have succeeded in implementing strategies in fostering children's Islamic personality in the aspects of faith, worship and morals, so that even though the woman or mother has a career, it does not hinder her in developing her child's Islamic personality

This type is qualitative research, the research approach is a phenomenological perspective and a descriptive analysis approach, data sources are primary data and secondary data, data techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation, research instruments namely, researchers as key instruments, observation guides, interview guides and reference documentation, processing techniques and data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion and verification, data validity testing, namely triangulation techniques, checking the correctness of information, discussing and consulting data, and extending the research time.
