    Multi-Threaded Actors

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduce a new programming model of multi-threaded actors which feature the parallel processing of their messages. In this model an actor consists of a group of active objects which share a message queue. We provide a formal operational semantics, and a description of a Java-based implementation for the basic programming abstractions describing multi-threaded actors. Finally, we evaluate our proposal by means of an example application.Comment: In Proceedings ICE 2016, arXiv:1608.0313

Asynchronous programming in the abstract behavioural specification language

    Get PDF
Chip manufacturers are rapidly moving towards so-called manycore chips with thousands of independent processors on the same silicon real estate. Current programming languages can only leverage the potential power by inserting code with low level concurrency constructs, sacrificing clarity. Alternatively, a programming language can integrate a thread of execution with a stable notion of identity, e.g., in active objects.Abstract Behavioural Specification (ABS) is a language for designing executable models of parallel and distributed object-oriented systems based on active objects, and is defined in terms of a formal operational semantics which enables a variety of static and dynamic analysis techniques for the ABS models. The overall goal of this thesis is to extend the asynchronous programming model and the corresponding analysis techniques in ABS.Algorithms and the Foundations of Software technolog

Information Literacy and Instruction: Information Literacy Instruction with Primo

    Get PDF
Discovery services are changing the way library users find and access library materials, especially electronic resources. These search tools are also impacting information literacy instruction for users at all skill levels. The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries in Hattiesburg adopted Ex Libris’s Primo discovery service during the summer of 2014. Primo has now been a prominent feature on our website’s homepage for almost a full semester and has impacted the way we teach information literacy to our students. As the reference librarian for Health Sciences, I will describe my experience incorporating Primo into our library instruction for both first-year experience and lowerclassmen as well as higher-level courses and how the two approaches differ. I will also describe the biggest challenges our reference services department has encountered when showing our students how to use Primo and how these issues have impacted instruction and our promotion of interlibrary loan. Finally, whenever possible, I will tie in our experiences to the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education in an effort to demonstrate how learning and literacy standards can be helpful scaffolds during technological transitions

Achillea santolina, a common variety of Achillea in Golestan province of Iran has been used in traditional medicine for its anti - inflammatory properties. The effect of hydroalcoholic extract (300 mg/kg/day Intraperitoneally, for 20 days) of Achillea santolina on the spermatogenesis of mice was studied by the evaluation of morphologic characteristics by light microscope. The alterations observed were disorganized germ epithelium, exfoliation of immature germ cells, germ cell necrosis and increased number of metaphasfis in germinal epithelium of seminiferous tubules. We concluded that hydroalcoholic extract of Achillea santolina 300 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally for 20 days as a different variety of Achillea has antispermatogenic effect similar to Achillea millefolium on mice

The Legacy of Color Vision Testing in the Railway Industry

    Get PDF
Objective: To explore the methods and debate surrounding late nineteenth and early twentieth century railroad companies’ screening of employees for colorblindness and the effect it had on subsequent testing by other industries and professions. Methods: The author looked through issues of The Railway Surgeon, the official journal of the now-defunct National Association of Railway Surgeons, for articles on colorblindness and color vision testing as well as the 1905 edition of Color Vision and Color-Blindness: A Manual for Railroad Surgeons. Secondary literature on the subject was obtained via PubMed, MEDLINE, and other scholarly article databases. Conclusions: Railroad medicine and the surgeons who practiced it influenced the study of colorblindness and set a precedent for occupational vision testing, a practice still in existence today. Implications: If railroad medicine impacted color vision testing, it may have influenced other aspects of American medicine, especially occupational medicine

Used Azivash seed in the research has been provided in summer 2013. The samples were cleaned and separated manually and residuals and broken seeds were taken apart it and healthy seed was provided for testing. Then diameter, area of image, and round coefficient, were calculated using image processing application. Mass of 1000 seeds, mass density, real density and porosity percentage, static friction coefficient, repose angle in two modes of fullness and emptiness were measured. Liquid replacement method has been used to calculate density and volume of the seeds. The results showed that a positive relationship between physical properties of Azivash seed including geometric properties (diameter, volume), gravity properties (weight of 1000 seeds, real density and porosity), and frictional properties (stability angle of evacuation) with increased moisture, while a negative relationship between specific mass and increased moisture. Average amounts of diameter, area, volume, round coefficient, weight of sample unit, particle density, and mass density at 7 w.b.% moisture consist of: 2.147 mm, 1.961 mm2, 1.483 cm3, 0.74, 0.0014 g, 0.961 and 0.794 g/cm3.

Gears is a rotating cylindrical wheel having tooth cut on it and which meshes with another toothed part to transmit the power or torque.. In this investigation, at first, bending stress and contact stress between sun gear and planet gear tooth were determined using of Lewis and Hertzian equations. Afterward, a 3D model of final drives gear was investigated via FEM method. According to the obtained results, maximum of bending stress and contact stress occurred in Gear 1 and low status of helping gear, according to the results that given in the table 3, maximum bending stress using of theoretical and FEM simulation methods were obtained 918.62 Mpa and 951.82 Mpa, respectively. Also, maximum contact stress in same status using of theoretical and FEM simulation methods were obtained 2952.71 Mpa and 2903.20 Mpa, respectively. The percentage difference between the theoretical and FEM bending stress results and contact stress results are of average 3.48% and 11%, respectively, which are still acceptable. As regards, some parameters are ignored in theoretical calculation such as: radial forces in Lewis equation and tangential forces in Hertzian equation, FEM simulation results are acceptable than theoretical results
