An investigation on the shuttle trade dynamics of a small-open-economy
In this article we have tried to assess the possible relationships between shuttle trade and the expletory variables and the expletory variables, export (f.o.b.), import (c.i.f.) and CPI based real effective US dollar exchange rate. We employed monthly data of Turkey covering the years from 1996:01 to 2006:12 and forecasted the parameters by Ordinary Least Square (OLS) estimation method. In order to find out whether there is a linear relationship among these series; we have checked each series whether are integrated at the same order or not. According to the ADF unit root test results, we have found that all the variables are integrated of order one, I(1), but shuttle trade. Besides we detected a case of multicollinearity among some of the expletory variables. Therefore we used first order autoregression model of shuttle trade. We have derived that, previous month's shuttle trade have positive impacts on the current level shuttle trade. We also used the same specification to indicate that the shuttle trade value increases in the months of fall and decreases in months of summer
Comparison of the effect of naproxen, etodolac and diclofenac on postoperative sequels following third molar surgery: a randomised, double-blind, crossover study
Objectives: To compare the three non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) diclofenac potassium, etodol

ac and naproxen sodium in relation to pain, swelling and trismus following impacted third molar surgery.
Study Design: The study was a randomized and a double-blinded study which included 42 healthy young individu

als with impacted third molars and bone retention. Patients were randomly assigned to 3 groups (n: 14) to which
diclofenac potassium, naproxen sodium and etodolac were administered orally an hour before the operation. Im

pacted third molars were surgically extracted with local anaesthesia. Visual analog scales (VAS) were used to
assess the pain in the 6

days postoperatively. Swelling was evaluated
using ultrasound (US) and mouth opening (trismus) was measured with a composing stick pre and post operatively
on the 2

and 7

days respectively.
Results: Regarding pain alleviation, diclofenac potassium was better than naproxen sodium and naproxen sodium
was better than etodolac but these differences were not statistically significant. US measurements showed that the
swelling on postoperative 2

day was significantly lowest with diclofenac potassium as compared to others (p=
0.027) while naproxen sodium and etodolac acted similarly (p=0.747). No difference was noted regarding trismus
in any of the groups.
Conclusions: NSAIDs (diclofenac, naproxen and etodolac) are somehow similarly effective for controlling pain
and trismus following extraction of mandibular third molars but diclofenac potassium surpasses others in reduc

Evaluation of the Electronic Resource Usage of Ankara University Faculty Members
Bilimsel her veri tabanının standart taşıması gereken belirli özellikleri bulunmaktadır. Bu özellikler veri tabanında yer alan verilere erişimin doğru ve hızlı olması bakımından önem kazanmaktadır. Ankara Üniversitesi mensuplarına gereksinim duyacakları bilimsel bilgi kaynakları elektronik ortamda en çağdaş bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerini kullanarak sunulmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, Ankara Üniversitesi akademik personelinin bilgi gereksinimleri doğrultusunda oluşturulan ve elektronik kütüphanede yer alan veri tabanlarının kullanılıp kullanılmadığının belirlenmesi amaçlanmış; bu amaca yönelik bilgi modeli ve içeriği belirlenerek uygulamaların gerçekleştirilmesi hedeflenmiştir.Education, research, and implementation activities of universities necessitate access to information in the most accurate and fastest manner in today's conditions. In this regard; Members of Ankara University have to access scientific information through the most contemporary information and communication technology in the electronic environment, primarily through the global internet system. Each scientific database has specific standard characteristics. These properties gain importance in terms of the correctness and speed of access to the data contained in the database. The sources of scientific information that the members of Ankara University will need are presented in the electronic environment using the most contemporary information and communication technologies. This article aims to determine the information needs of the members of Ankara University and to determine the information access and the use of information by identifying the information access model for researching the educational facilities and the necessary infrastructure and technical support so that the maximum benefit can be obtained from the electronic library. Aims at realizing their application by determining the information model and content for this purpose
An Evaluation of the Second Survey on Electronic Databases Usage at Ankara University Digital Library
Purpose
The study encompasses the assessment of the effectiveness of the digital library and the value of multidisciplinary databases in terms of user preferences and use frequency by academic ranking.
Methodology
This paper compares the results of two survey questionnaires carried out in 2002 and 2005. To examine the level of awareness by academic staff of digital library resources along with their use rate and to evaluate the preferences of faculty for specific electronic databases case studies were undertaken by means of separate questionnaires in both years.
Findings
Findings were consistent that positive results have been observed in two studies conducted in two years, 2002 and 2005. According to the results of current survey, the increase numbers of the faculty members of Ankara University know about the existence of the digital library after the informative activities on databases from. Another result of the survey is that many of the faculty members, although not all of them use electronic databases. The most preferred databases have been Web of Science, Science Direct and Ebsco. When use of the electronic databases is analyzed, in respect of faculty rank and level of awareness, associate and assistant professors, assistants place at first ranges.
Originality/value
The study presents the first case study in the field in Turkey that compares the current situation of the digital library usage with the initial survey data
Ankara Üniversitesi Elektronik Kütüphanesi Veri Tabanlarının Kullanım Analizi
The development in information and communication technologies has changed and improved resources and services diversity in libraries. These changes continue to develop rapidly throughout the world. As for our country, remarkable developments, especially in university and special libraries, in this field are worth consideration. In order to take benefit of the existing and forthcoming developments in the field of electronic libraries the databases used by clients should be well-demonstrated and followed closely. The providing wide use of electronic databases leads to increasing the productivity of scientific and social information that that is the ultimate goal.
The article points out electronic resources management and the effect of consortia developments in the field first, and then evaluates the results of the survey on the use of electronic libraries assessment questionnaires by faculty
members at Ankara University
Visualizing Diagnostic of Multicollinearity: Tableplot and Biplot Methods
In this study we tried to bring out the importance of two methods used for visualizing multicollinearity diagnostics. The first method is called Tableplot (see Friendly and Kwan, 2009). Through this technique, multicollinearity diagnostics ideas are combined with a visualizing approach. The second method is called Biplot (see Gabriel, 1971; Gower and Hand, 1996). The biplot technique is used for demonstrating significant properties of multivariate data structure. Both of these approaches have been examined by one real and three artificial data. Results indicate that Biplot method is preferred to instead of Tableplot for too large condition indexes
