    Developing Listening Skill‘s Learning Through Information Technology. Listening skill for some teachers is more in listening ability rather than listening as a process and mechanic so that it needs skill in designing technology as an interesting learning media. Whereas technology can be used to help the students in developing their listening skill through radio, cassete audio, television, video, and computer or internet media with providing many websites. Each kind of technology gives chance for the students to explore their listening strategy and some cases in developing new strategy. In language class, the students have access to some forms technology whether it is small transistor radio or multimedia interactive. It may give broader access to emphasize certain aspect model such as cross culture, interactional, critical, and contextual dimension in listening skill. Together with technology development, the role of the teacher in helping the students in developing listening skill is changed. Besides, language teacher in exploitation old technology and new technology can fullfill the students\u27 need in anticipation for changing and development of technology

    Features of English Textbooks for the First-year of Senior High School Implementing the 2013-curriculum

    This research aimed to investigate the quality of English for the First Year of Senior High School Implementing the 2013 Curriculum the academic years 2016/2017. The method applied in this research was descriptive method. Data collection techniques used observation check list. There were three textbooks observed. The aspects that were observed consisted of content, presentation, language, and graphic. The result indicated as follows. For the appropriateness the content of view; there were only two textbooks which belong to ‘good\u27 category books, namely Pathway to English for Senior High School Grade X, published by Erlangga and Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X, published by Kemdikbud. An others textbook had ‘fair\u27 category namely Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA-MA/SMK kelas X, published by Yrama Widya. There was one textbook which was categorized into ‘very good\u27 presentation, namely Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X, published by kemdikbud. while two other textbooks, namely Pathway to English for Senior High School Grade X and Bahasa inggris untuk SMA-MA/SMK kelas X had ‘good\u27 category. Concerning the language aspect, there was one textbook, nemely Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X had ‘very good\u27 category. Two other textbooks, namely Pathway to English for Senior High School Grade X and Bahasa inggris untuk SMA-MA/SMK kelas X had ‘good\u27 category. Concerning the graphic aspect, there were two textbooks which belonged to ‘very good\u27 category, namely Pathway for Senior High School Grade X and Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X. An others textbook namely, Bahasa Inggris SMA- MA/ SMK kelas X had ‘good\u27 category. Thus, three textbooks had good category and be worthy to use because they fulfilled the quality of good textbook

    Code – Mixing in English Classes of SMPN 14 Kota Bengkulu: Views From the Teachers

    English teachers in all levels of education in Indonesia try hard to make their students able to speak and write English. Teachers sometimes use code-mixing in their classroom instructions. This study is conducted to investigate Code – Mixing in English Classes of SMPN 14 Kota Bengkulu: Views From the Teachers. The participants were the English teachers who teach English at SMPN 14 Kota Bengkulu. The data were collected from audio-recording and interviewing to the teachers. The results indicated that teachers used inter-sentential code-mixing more frequently than intra-sentential code-mixing. It also found that all of the teachers used code-mixing in pre-activity, while activity and post-activity of teaching and learning process in their English classes. They also used code-mixing for giving instruction, translation and asking for clarification. The English-Indonesian pattern is the most frequently used by the teachers in teaching English. The teachers used code-mixing in teaching English in the English classes to make the students able to understand the purpose of teaching and learning process easily

    The Effect of Scientific Approach Based on Tutorial Video on Students\u27 Reading Comprehension of Procedure Text (a Quasi-Experimental Research at Grade VIII of SMPN 4 Kota Bengkulu)

    This research aimed to find out whether there was any effect of implementation scientific based approach using tutorial video on students\u27 reading comprehension as a whole and various aspects in procedure text at grade VIII of SMPN 4 Kota Bengkulu. The design was a quasi-experimental research. The sample consisted of 50 students at grade VIII SMPN 4 Kota Bengkulu, 25 students for experiment group and 25 students for control group. The instrument was a reading test which comprised 50 multiple choice questions, the instrument was tried out with r=0,970. The research findings were as follows; (1) Scientific approach based on tutorial video affected students\u27 whole reading comprehension; (2) scientific approach based on tutorial video affected students\u27 reading comprehension in various aspects of reading comprehension, namely; finding general information, finding specific information, integrating information, and learning from text. Further study is recommended for other text types

    Improving Students' Ability In Writing Narrative Text By Using Picture Series For The Eight Grade Students Of Junior High School

    In this collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR), the researcher tried to overcome the problem of writing narrative text facing by the eighth-grade students in Junior High School, especially in getting and composing the ideas. The question of this research was ‘Can Picture Series improve the students' ability in writing the narrative text?' This class action research was divided into two cycles. Every cycle was divided into four stages, including (1) planning, (2) implementing, (3) observing, and (4) reflecting and it was focussed on the students' ability in writing narrative text by getting idea from a picture and developing the idea with the guidance from a series of pictures. The samples were 20 students of SMP Negeri 03 Sindang Kelingi, Curup, and Rejang Lebong. The data which were got from the students' achievement in the cycle I and cycle II were analyzed by using quantitative analysis data technique. From the analysis, the writer founded that in the cycle I, students gain the average score 61,35 and in the cycle II the average score was 84,50.It is suggested for the Junior High School English teachers to apply this technique increase their students' ability in writing the narrativ

    Evaluation Of English Teaching Materials Used At SD IT Ummi In Kota Bengkulu Based On Ktsp (Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan)

    The objectives of this study were: (1) To find out whether textbook used by second grade students at SD IT UMMI Kota Bengkulu fulfill the criteria of a good textbook. (2) To find out whether the English textbook used by second grade students at SD IT UMMI Kota Bengkulu relevant to KTSP curriculum. This research used descriptive qualitative content analysis as its research method. The data were collected from the English student book “Let's Make Friends with English” for second grade students. The results showed that English textbook entitled “Let's make friends with English” used by second grade students at SD IT UMMI Kota Bengkulu have fulfilled the criteria of a good textbook by achieving the Fair fulfillment. The textbook was categorized relevance to the KTSP curriculum, but the activities in the listening can be said irrelevant because they cannot cover the learning objectives in listening. It was then recommended that the teachers need to modify the tasks and activities on the textbook which did not fulfill the criteria of good textbook, especially in the area of accompanying materials (CD, Cassettes and pictures), language skill, and teach ability aspects
