Failure analysis of extruder screw bushings used to process powder paint
descartada.ABSTRACT: This article aims to present the failure analysis of extruder screw bushings used for the manufacture of
powder paint. Two bushings, one from the transition zone and one from the metering zone were selected to
carry out the study. Chemical composition and microstructural analysis, hardness testing and a detailed
analysis of the failed surfaces by visual examination and SEM were performed. The results showed that both
bushings were made of steel DIN 1.2316 with a globular annealing heat treatment. Also, a nitride coating 45-
65 渭m thick with hardness greater than 1400 HV was identified. The analysis of the failed surfaces indicated
that the main wear mechanism was contact fatigue wear, with the presence of micropitting, macropitting and
cracking. This type of wear is due to the contact between the bushings surface and the high hardness abrasive
particles of the paint formulation, added to the high pressures developed within the barrel and the cutting
cyclic stresses that the bushings have to withstand. The presence of other wear mechanism like adhesion,
corrosion and abrasion was discarded
Influence of carbon, titanium and aluminium in the high temperature corrosion resistance by molten salts in nickelchromium- iron alloys
Palabras clave: Aleaciones n铆quel-cromo-hierro, corrosi贸n a alta temperatura, sales fundidas.ABSTRACT: The corrosion resistance generated by molten salts at high temperature in nickel-ironchromium alloys was studied. Alloys with different concentrations of carbon and aluminum plus titanium were produced and the chemical composition of the samples was determined by optical emission spectrometry. Samples were cold rolled with a cross and unidirectional rolling deformation of 15%, after that a heat treatment was performed to get the desired microstructure. SEM and optical microscopy were used to analyze the microstructure and
determining the grain size. EDS analysis was used for determining the chemistry of inter- and intra-granular precipitates. Finally, a high temperature corrosion process was carried out using vanadium pentoxide molten salts. SEM was used to analyze the type of corrosion. A high resistance to hot corrosion was found for this alloy system and a direct relationship between carbon concentration and corrosion rate. No significant influence of the concentration of aluminum and titanium on the corrosion rate was observed. Keywords: Nickel-chromium-iron alloys, high temperature corrosion, molten salts

Effect of ladle inoculation on gray irons cuppola furnace melted
Mediante este estudio se pudo determinar que debido a las caracter铆sticas espec铆ficas del proceso de fusi贸n llevado en horno de cubilote, hacen que se obtenga un metal en piquera preinoculado, por lo cual no se observa ning煤n cambio significativo de las diferentes propiedades mec谩nicas y microestructurales en las diferentes experimentaciones.ABSTRACT: Gray irons have several applications as structural materials because of their wide range of
properties. Mechanical properties can be modified with microstructural characteristics, that
depend fundamentally on the chemical composition of the base metal, melting conditions, the
ladle treatment of melted metal and the rate of cooling during solidification.
The ladle treatment of melted metal, known as ladle inoculation, consists in adding an inoculant
agent, which permits the creation of many nucleation sites in the melted metal, so solidification
occurs with less undercooling, diminishing carbide formation (chill) and favoring free graphite
precipitation.
The main objective of this work was to determine the effect of ladle inoculation on gray cast
irons melted in cupola furnace, by comparing commercial inoculants agents based on FeSi and
SiC. Data in this paper correspond to preliminary studies, where the inoculant effect of those
agents on tensile properties is evaluated as well as hardness, microstructure and soundness (% of
chill free) in thin pieces. It was possible to determine that, due to the specific characteristics of
the melting process carried out in the cupola furnace, metal in taphole is already preinoculated, so
no significant change is observed in mechanical and microstructural properties for several
experiments

solubilizaci贸n y envejecimiento, sobre la microestructura final obtenida y la dureza de la aleaci贸n.ABSTRACT: Aluminum-silicon (Al-Si) cast alloys with Mg and Cu has susceptibility to solution and ageing heat
treatments that improve the mechanical properties and its application is expands. This paper
presents the results of the study of the effect of solution and ageing heat treatments of an aluminumsilicon
(Al-Si) alloy on microstructure. The alloy was produced using an electric crucible furnace
and poured into green sand molds to obtain Y blocks. A chiller was placed in the bottom of the
mold to get directional solidification, which generates a variation in grain size. Samples taken close
and far from the chiller with different grain sizes were solubilized at 510掳C for 8 hours and then
artificially aged at 160掳C for 4, 8, 12 and 16 hours. Microstructural characterization was performed
using optical microscopy (MO) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, and hardness
measurement were performed. The results showed the effects of solution and ageing conditions,
on the microstructure and hardness of the alloy
Determination of intercritical austenization parameters for development of multiphase steel using dilatometric analysis

ABSTRACT The Multiphase steels are materials with exceptional mechanical properties including high strength, excellent ductility and hardening coefficient and good conformability. These properties are related with the microstructure, which can be a combination of ferrite and martensite (Dual phase steels) or more complex microstructures with ferrite, bainite, martensite and retained austenite as in TRIP steels. One of the most important stages on the fabrication of multiphase steels is the intercritical austenization step which is performed between the A1 and A3 temperatures. This step determines the amount and chemistry (especially carbon) of the high temperature austenite. Aiming to study the intercritical austenization step, steels with variations in carbon (0.2-0.5wt%) and silicon (1.4-2.0wt%) were manufactured and dilatometric studies were conducted. The results allowed to stablish the intercritical austenization temperature (IAT) according with the needed amount of high temperature austenite. Also, the variation in chemistry of the high temperature austenite was studied as a function of the intercritical austenization temperature. (IAT) The results were analyzed according with the possibilities of the step after austenization, i.e., quenching or austempering and its impact on the microstructure and properties of the heat treated alloys.

</p
