Experimental evidence on rational inattention
We show that rational inattention theory of Sims (2003) provides a rationalization of choice models Ă la Luce and gives a structural interpretation to probability curvature parameters as reflecting costs of processing information. We use data from a behavioral experiment to show that people behave according to predictions of the theory. We estimate attitudes to risk and costs of information for individual participants and document overwhelming heterogeneity in these parameters among a relatively homogeneous sample of people. We characterize, both theoretically and empirically, the aggregation biases this heterogeneity implies and find these biases to be substantial.Risk management ; Econometrics
Biconed graphs, edge-rooted forests, and h-vectors of matroid complexes
A well-known conjecture of Richard Stanley posits that the -vector of the
independence complex of a matroid is a pure -sequence. The
conjecture has been established for various classes but is open for graphic
matroids. A biconed graph is a graph with two specified `coning vertices', such
that every vertex of the graph is connected to at least one coning vertex. The
class of biconed graphs includes coned graphs, Ferrers graphs, and complete
multipartite graphs. We study the -vectors of graphic matroids arising from
biconed graphs, providing a combinatorial interpretation of their entries in
terms of `edge-rooted forests' of the underlying graph. This generalizes
constructions of Kook and Lee who studied the M\"obius coinvariant (the last
nonzero entry of the -vector) of graphic matroids of complete bipartite
graphs. We show that allowing for partially edge-rooted forests gives rise to a
pure multicomplex whose face count recovers the -vector, establishing

Genome-wide DNA sampling by Ago nuclease from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus
Members of the conserved Argonaute (Ago) protein family provide defense against invading nucleic acids in eukaryotes in the process of RNA interference. Many prokaryotes also contain Ago proteins that are predicted to be active nucleases, however, their functional activities in host cells remain poorly understood. Here, we characterize the in vitro and in vivo properties of the SeAgo protein from the mesophilic cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus. We show that SeAgo is a DNA-guided nuclease preferentially acting on single-stranded DNA targets, with nonspecific guide-independent activity observed for double-stranded substrates. The SeAgo gene is steadily expressed in S. elongatus, however, its deletion or overexpression does not change the kinetics of cell growth. When purified from its host cells or from heterologous E. coli, SeAgo is loaded with small guide DNAs whose formation depends on the endonuclease activity of the argonaute protein. SeAgo co-purifies with SSB proteins suggesting that they may also be involved in DNA processing. The SeAgo-associated small DNAs are derived from diverse genomic locations, with certain enrichment for the proposed sites of chromosomal replication initiation and termination, but show no preference for an endogenous plasmid. Therefore, promiscuous genome sampling by SeAgo does not have great effects on cell physiology and plasmid maintenance
Floorplan-Aware Camera Poses Refinement
Processing large indoor scenes is a challenging task, as scan registration
and camera trajectory estimation methods accumulate errors across time. As a
result, the quality of reconstructed scans is insufficient for some
applications, such as visual-based localization and navigation, where the
correct position of walls is crucial.
For many indoor scenes, there exists an image of a technical floorplan that
contains information about the geometry and main structural elements of the
scene, such as walls, partitions, and doors. We argue that such a floorplan is
a useful source of spatial information, which can guide a 3D model
optimization.
The standard RGB-D 3D reconstruction pipeline consists of a tracking module
applied to an RGB-D sequence and a bundle adjustment (BA) module that takes the
posed RGB-D sequence and corrects the camera poses to improve consistency. We
propose a novel optimization algorithm expanding conventional BA that leverages
the prior knowledge about the scene structure in the form of a floorplan. Our
experiments on the Redwood dataset and our self-captured data demonstrate that
utilizing floorplan improves accuracy of 3D reconstructions.Comment: IROS 202
Modifikasi Rumah Kutai Knockdown sebagai Solusi Perumahan Daerah Rawa
Untuk memenuhi kekurangan Perumahan di Indonesia, konstruksi pada daerah rawa merupakan tantangan tersendiri karena karakternya yang khas. Perumahan yang dibangun oleh developer umumnya merupakan konstruksi permanen yang pengerjaannya lebih lambat dibandingkan dengan rumah tradisional serta menutup jalur air rawa sehingga dapat mengakibatkan banjir. Selain itu, masyarakat pun saat ini lebih memilih desain permanen ketimbang arsitektur tradisional seperti rumah Kutai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskusikan rancangan rumah Kutai sebagai solusi alternatif dengan sistem knockdown, sebagai pemenuhan kekurangan Perumahan di daerah rawa, seperti Kalimantan. Dengan metode perancangan lima langkah dalam arsitektur, desain ini diharapkan dapat lebih efektif karena singkatnya waktu pengerjaan dan efektivitasnya dalam mencegah banjir. Desain rumah Kutai yang sederhana tapi estetis ini dapat memberi daya tarik kelokalan yang khas, dapat menjaga kelestarian arsitektur tradisional, juga dapat memberi dampak ekonomi bagi masyarakat setempat
