The present monographic of Achillea millefolium L. contains the botanical descripcion of the plant, ecology, corology, growing, gathering and the drug conservation. A Karyological study for four species and three hybrids of Quercus (subgen. Quercus) from Cordillera Cantábrica (65 populations) has been made. The chromosome number (n =12, 2n =24) of Q. petraea (Mattuschka) Liebl. and Q. robur L. subsp. robur are reported for the first time about Spanish plants. The basic number of Quercus (x=12) and similar cariotypes every one of them are confirmed

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma: Molecular profiling recognizes subclasses and identifies prognostic markers

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a clinically aggressive disease, with a poor response to therapy and a low overall survival rate of approximately 30% after 5 years. We have analyzed a series of 105 cases with a diagnosis of PTCL using a customized NanoString platform (NanoString Technologies, Seattle, WA) that includes 208 genes associated with T-cell differentiation, oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, deregulated pathways, and stromal cell subpopulations. A comparative analysis of the various histological types of PTCL (angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma [AITL]; PTCL with T follicular helper [TFH] phenotype; PTCL not otherwise specified [NOS]) showed that specific sets of genes were associated with each of the diagnoses. These included TFH markers, cytotoxic markers, and genes whose expression was a surrogate for specific cellular subpopulations, including follicular dendritic cells, mast cells, and genes belonging to precise survival (NF-κB) and other pathways. Furthermore, the mutational profile was analyzed using a custom panel that targeted 62 genes in 76 cases distributed in AITL, PTCL-TFH, and PTCL-NOS. The main differences among the 3 nodal PTCL classes involved the RHOAG17V mutations (P < .0001), which were approximately twice as frequent in AITL (34.09%) as in PTCL-TFH (16.66%) cases but were not detected in PTCL-NOS. A multivariate analysis identified gene sets that allowed the series of cases to be stratified into different risk groups. This study supports and validates the current division of PTCL into these 3 categories, identifies sets of markers that can be used for a more precise diagnosis, and recognizes the expression of B-cell genes as an IPI-independent prognostic factor for AITL

Healthcare workers hospitalized due to COVID-19 have no higher risk of death than general population. Data from the Spanish SEMI-COVID-19 Registry

Aim To determine whether healthcare workers (HCW) hospitalized in Spain due to COVID-19 have a worse prognosis than non-healthcare workers (NHCW). Methods Observational cohort study based on the SEMI-COVID-19 Registry, a nationwide registry that collects sociodemographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment data on patients hospitalised with COVID-19 in Spain. Patients aged 20-65 years were selected. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed to identify factors associated with mortality. Results As of 22 May 2020, 4393 patients were included, of whom 419 (9.5%) were HCW. Median (interquartile range) age of HCW was 52 (15) years and 62.4% were women. Prevalence of comorbidities and severe radiological findings upon admission were less frequent in HCW. There were no difference in need of respiratory support and admission to intensive care unit, but occurrence of sepsis and in-hospital mortality was lower in HCW (1.7% vs. 3.9%; p = 0.024 and 0.7% vs. 4.8%; p<0.001 respectively). Age, male sex and comorbidity, were independently associated with higher in-hospital mortality and healthcare working with lower mortality (OR 0.211, 95%CI 0.067-0.667, p = 0.008). 30-days survival was higher in HCW (0.968 vs. 0.851 p<0.001). Conclusions Hospitalized COVID-19 HCW had fewer comorbidities and a better prognosis than NHCW. Our results suggest that professional exposure to COVID-19 in HCW does not carry more clinical severity nor mortality

[EN] The present work describes the results of a comparative histological study of the stem and leaves of species of the genus Bufonia , Dianthus , Ortegia and Silène. Intra and extravascular meristems are identified which apparently determine the thickness of stem growth of these species. A description is made of their physiology and a model to explain their growth caracteristics is proposed

[EN] The present work reports on certain structural aspects of seeds of Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrader. Different stages of embryonic development are studies with the finding that mainly on the ontogeny of the vascular system. A study is made of the transition area. According to analysis of the development of the seeds it is possible to infer the initial existence of three separate vascular systems in the seedling, that later contact. A study is made of the developmental mode of the secondary vascular system of the stem and the sequential activity of the several meristems. The asynchrony appears as an important functional characteristic

[EN] The present work describes the histological characteristics of the primary and secondary roots of species from the genus Chenopodium L. and Atriplex L. The ontogenetic development of the vascular system is described together with mechanism of the lateral meristems which give the final configuration to the root in each of the plants studied. The respective growth models are proposed
