Meiotic behavior of two polyploid species of genus Pleurodema (Anura: Leiuperidae) from central Argentina
Polyploidy is an important evolutionary force but rare in vertebrates. However, in anurans, the genus Pleurodema has polyploid species, two of them tetraploid and one octoploid. The manner in which the chromosomes join in diakinesis can vary among species and, crucially, if they differ in their ploidy levels. In this work, we describe the meiotic configurations in two cryptic species from central Argentina, with different ploidy levels, Pleurodema kriegi (tetraploid) and P. cordobae (octoploid). A total of 306 diakineses from 19 individuals were analyzed. In meiosis, P. kriegi form 22 bivalents, whereas P. cordobae exhibits variation in meiotic figures. We discuss the possible allo- and autopolyploid origin of these species, and we consider that the autopolyploid origin of P. cordobae from P. kriegi might be the most feasible.Fil: Salas, Nancy Edith. Árboles arraigados. Aplicaciones
ALMA polarimetry measures magnetically aligned dust grains in the torus of NGC 1068
The obscuring structure surrounding active galactic nuclei (AGN) can be
explained as a dust and gas flow cycle that fundamentally connects the AGN with
their host galaxies. This structure is believed to be associated with dusty
winds driven by radiation pressure. However, the role of magnetic fields, which
are invoked in almost all models for accretion onto a supermassive black hole
and outflows, is not thoroughly studied. Here we report the first detection of
polarized thermal emission by means of magnetically aligned dust grains in the
dusty torus of NGC 1068 using ALMA Cycle 4 polarimetric dust continuum
observations (, pc; 348.5 GHz, m). The polarized torus
has an asymmetric variation across the equatorial axis with a peak polarization
of \% and position angle of (B-vector) at
pc east from the core. We compute synthetic polarimetric observations of
magnetically aligned dust grains assuming a toroidal magnetic field and
homogeneous grain alignment. We conclude that the measured 860 m continuum
polarization arises from magnetically aligned dust grains in an optically thin
region of the torus. The asymmetric polarization across the equatorial axis of
the torus arises from 1) an inhomogeneous optical depth, and 2) a variation of
the velocity dispersion, i.e. variation of the magnetic field turbulence at
sub-pc scales, from the eastern to the western region of the torus. These
observations and modeling constrain the torus properties beyond spectral energy
distribution results. This study strongly supports that magnetic fields up to a
few pc contribute to the accretion flow onto the active nuclei.Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures (Accepted for Publication to ApJ
La estructura factorial del Inventario de Crecimiento Postraumático en padres de niños críticamente enfermos
Background: Posttraumatic growth (PTG) was conceptualized as consisting of changes in three broad dimensions; Self, interpersonal relationships, and philosophy of life. The aim of this study is to analyze the factor structure of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) in a sample of parents whose children had survived a critical hospitalization in order to
consider the structural validity of the PTGI scores for this population and to report our understanding of PTG as a construct. Methods: 143 parents completed the PTGI 6 months after their child’s discharge from pediatric intensive care. The PTGI scores’ factor structure was studied through confi rmatory factor analyses (CFA) of different models supported in prior research, followed by an exploratory principal component analysis (PCA).
Results: Prior models tested through CFA did not provide an acceptable fi t for our data. Through exploratory PCA, three components emerged that explained 73.41% of the variance; personal growth, interpersonal growth and transpersonal growth. Subsequent CFAs on this three-factor model showed that a bifactor model had the best fi t. Conclusion: Although the PTGI scores have shown slightly different factor structures among diverse
populations, the three dimensions initially theorized appear to be robust, which supports the structural validity of its scoresAntecedentes: el crecimiento postraumático (CPT) se defi nió originalmente como la ocurrencia de cambios en tres dimensiones: personal, relaciones interpersonales y filosofía
The tadpole of Pleurodema cordobae Valetti, Salas & Martino, 2009 (Anura: Leiuperidae) from Córdoba, Argentina
The frog genus Pleurodema Tschudi, 1838 is distributed from Panama throughout South America to southern Chile and Argentina and currently is represented by 15 species, of which 10 have been recorded in Argentina (Faivovich et al. 2012). Recently, Valetti et al. (2009) re-described the tetraploid species P. kriegi and described a related cryptic species, the octoploid Pleurodema cordobae. These species are endemic of the Sierra Grande of Córdoba (Ferraro & Casagranda 2009; Valetti et al. 2009; Valetti et al. 2011) and together with the tetraploid P. bibrioni comprise a clade of polyploid cryptic species within the genus (Faivovich et al. 2012). The external morphology has been described for the tadpoles of P. bibrioni and P. kriegi by Kolenc et al. (2009), but the tadpole of P. cordobae remains undescribed. The aim of this work is to describe the larval external morphology and oral disc of new species P. cordobae.Fil: Otero, Manuel Alejandro. Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto.
