    Studying the Link between Organizational Learning and Employees’ Empowerment (Case Study: Qom Maskan Bank Selected Braches)

    Present study aims at investigating the relationship between organizational learning and employees’ empowerment. Organizational learning consists of such components as structure, strategy culture, and perspective based on Neefe’s theory while employees’ empowerment is considered based on introduced components by Spritz including effectiveness, significance, meritocracy, independence and trust. Present study is conducted by a descriptive survey and its population consists of management and employees in Qom Maskan Bank selected branches. In this research, 120 questionnaires were distributed by layered random sampling method and finally 100 ones were returned and analyzed. To gather data, the first questionnaire involves 12 items based on Neefe’s components while the second one (employees’ empowerment) involves Spritz indices that their validity can be supported. Chronbach’s alpha value is used to measure reliability as 0.93 and 0.94 for organizational learning and employees’ empowerment respectively. To analyze research data in SPSS and Amos software packages, such techniques as Spearman correlation coefficient, regression analysis and structural equations are used. The findings support research conceptual model and show that there is an association between organizational learning and employees’ empowerment

    Frequency and types of workplace violence against emergency medical technicians: a cross-sectional study in Tehran, Iran

    Objective: This study was implemented to assess various types of violent incidents involving emergency medical technicians (EMTs) working in Tehran, Iran. Furthermore, the characteristics of violent people and possible causes of their violence were assessed. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 500 EMTs working in the capital city of Tehran were randomly invited. The participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire of workplace violence. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were also performed for identifying the possible risk factors of violence. In addition, the distribution and association of violence patterns were also analyzed considering demographic features and characteristics of violent people. Results: In total, 320 EMTs with the mean age of 31.8 ± 6.7 years participated, 315 (98.4%) of whom were men. Overall, 279 (87.2%) out of the 320 participants experienced 654 episodes of violence, mostly bullying, in the last 4 months. The relationship between the level of education and experiencing violent incidents was statistically significant (p=0.035). Also, non-Persian EMTs had experienced significantly more violent behaviors than Persian EMTs [171 (91.0%) vs. 108 (81.8%); p=0.016]. Nonetheless, the prevalence of violent incidents was not significantly correlated with marital status, years of work experience, employment situation, and working hours. The odds of facing violent behavior among EMTs with associate degree was 2.9 times higher than those with technical diploma (p=0.048). Furthermore, the odds of experiencing violence among non-Persian EMTs was 2.2 times higher than Persian EMTs (p=0.039). Conclusion: We found that EMTs had faced numerous episodes of violence in their workplace, especially verbal threats, which were more prevalently committed by patients’ relatives during night shifts

    Phosphatidylserine-Induced Factor Xa Dimerization and Binding to Factor Va Are Competing Processes in Solution

    A soluble, short chain phosphatidylserine, 1,2-dicaproyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine (C6PS), binds to discrete sites on FXa, FVa, and prothrombin to alter their conformations, to promote FXa dimerization (Kd ~ 14 nM), and to enhance both the catalytic activity of FXa and the cofactor activity of FVa. In the presence of calcium, C6PS binds to two sites on FXa, one in the epidermal growth factor like (EGF) domain and one in the catalytic domain; the latter interaction is sensitive to Na+ binding and probably represents a protein recognition site. Here we ask whether dimerization of FXa and its binding to FVa in the presence of C6PS are competitive processes. We monitored FXa activity at 5, 20 and 50 nM FXa while titrating with FVa in the presence of 400 µM C6PS and 3 or 5 mM Ca2+ to show that the apparent Kd of FVa-FXa interaction increased with increasing FXa concentration at 5 mM Ca2+, but the Kd was only slightly affected at 3 mM Ca2+. A mixture of 50 nM FXa and 50 nM FVa in the presence of 400 µM C6PS yielded both Xa homodimers and Xa ·Va heterodimers but no FXa dimers bound to FVa. A mutant FXa (R165A) that has reduced prothrombinase activity showed both reduced dimerization (Kd~147 nM) and reduced FVa binding (apparent Kd, = 58, 92 and 128 nM, respectively for 5, 20 and 50 nM R165A FXa). Native gel electrophoresis showed that the GLA-EGFNC fragment of FXa (lacking the catalytic domain) neither dimerized nor formed a complex with FVa in the presence of 400 µM C6PS and 5 mM Ca2+. Our results demonstrate that the dimerization site and FVa binding site are both located in the catalytic domain of FXa and that these sites are linked thermodynamically

    Metal concentrations in selected tissues and main prey species of the annulated sea snake (Hydrophis cyanocinctus) in the Hara Protected Area, northeastern coast of the Persian Gulf, Iran.

    This study is the first detailed ecotoxicological study of the annulated sea snake, Hydrophis cyanocinctus. Concentrations of lead, cadmium, nickel and vanadium were evaluated in muscle, liver, kidney, skin and blood of the annulated sea snake (H. cyanocinctus) and in the whole bodies of its main prey species (Periophthalmus waltoni and Boleophthalmus dussumieri) in the Hara Protected Area, the Persian Gulf. The mean concentrations of lead and vanadium were highest in the kidney, which identified the kidney as a target organ for metals in sea snakes as it is in other reptilian groups. Mean concentrations of cadmium and nickel were highest in the liver and skin, respectively. Mean cadmium concentrations were significantly higher in the liver compared to prey species, which indicated that prey items may be a source of cadmium for the annulated sea snake in the study area. Data presented here may be considered as a baseline for further ecotoxicological studies in sea snakes

    The Correlation between Intersegmental Coordination Variability and Frontal Plane Hip Kinematics during Running in Persons with Patellofemoral Pain

    Background: Despite the existing evidence indicating altered hip kinematics as well as the studies showing altered movement coordination variability in persons with patellofemoral pain (PFP), there is no study investigating the correlation between hip joint kinematic and movement coordination variability in persons with patellofemoral pain (PFP).Objective: This study aims to evaluate the correlation between peak hip adduction and variability of thigh frontal-shank transverse coordination during running in persons with PFP.Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional correlational study, kinematic data were collected from 34 females (17 with and 17 without PFP) aged 18-35 years during treadmill running at preferred and fixed speeds, each for 30 s. The continuous relative phase method was used to calculate the coordination of thigh frontal-shank transverse. To calculate the deviation phase as the variability of intersegmental coordination, the standard deviation of the ensemble continuous relative phase curve points was averaged. The parameters of interest were peak hip adduction and coordination variability of thigh frontal-shank transverse. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r) was used to calculate the correlation between the variables.Results: The Pearson correlation coefficient showed a significant negative correlation between the peak hip adduction angle and variability of thigh frontal– shank transverse during running at both fixed (r=-0.553, P0.05).  Conclusion: The results indicated that greater adduction of the hip joint in persons with PFP during running is contributed to lesser variability of thigh frontal-shank transverse
