    Bottleneck adjacent matching heuristics for scheduling a re-entrant flow shop with dominant machine problem

    The re-entrant flow shop environment has become prominent in the manufacturing industries and has recently attracted researchers attention. Typical examples of re-entrant flow shops are the printed circuit board manufacturing and furniture painting processes where components or processed parts enter some specific machines more than once. Similar with other manufacturing environment, identifying appropriate scheduling methodologies to ensure high output rate is very much desirable. The problem explored and investigated in this research is a special type of scheduling problem found in a re-entrant flow shop where two of its processes have high tendency of exhibiting bottleneck characteristics. The scheduling problem resembles a four machine permutation re-entrant flow shop with the routing of M1,M2,M3,M4,M3,M4 where Ml and M4 have high tendency of being the dominant machines. The main objective of this research is to take advantage of the bottleneck characteristics at the re-entrant flow shop and use it to develop heuristics that can be used to solve its scheduling problems. There are four major concentrations in this research. First, basic mathematical properties or conditions that explain the behaviour of the bottleneck processes were developed to give an insight and clearer understanding of the re-entrant flow shop with dominant machines. Second, four new and effective scheduling procedures which were called BAM1 (Bottleneck Adjacent Matching 1), BAM2, BAM3 and BAM4 heuristics were developed. Third, bottleneck approach was utilised in the study and the analysis using Visual Basic macro programming indicated that this method produced good results. Fourth, the Bottleneck Scheduling Performance (BSP) indexes introduced in the BAM heuristics procedure could be used to ascertain that some specific generated job arrangements are the optimum schedule. As a general conclusion, this research has achieved the objectives to develop bottleneck-based makespan algorithms and heuristics applicable for re-entrant flow shop environment. The experimental results demonstrated that the BAM heuristics generated good performances within specific P1 (first process) bottleneck dominance level and when the number of jobs increases. Within the medium to large-sized problems, BAM2 is the best at weak PI dominance level whereas BAM4 is the best at strong P1 dominance level

    This research aims to study the application of the article 49 letter (i) of Law No, 3/2006 towardthe Competence of Religious Court within the shariah economy field, to study the settlementmechanism for shariah economy disputes in Religious Court as well as to analyzes theapplication of the article 49 letter (i) of Law No. 3/2006 in Religious Court rulings relating toshariah economy cases. This research uses three (3) approaches; firstly, statute approach is anapproach that studies statutes and regulations relating to the authority of Religious Courts tosettle the shariah economy disputes; second, conceptual approach is an approach that studieslegal concepts and legal experts opinion relating to the syariah economy disputes; and the third,case approach is an approach that studies the religious court’s rulings that have permanent legalpower relating to shariah economy cases. This research comes to conclusion that the article 49letter (i) of Law No. 3/2006 has widely been implemented.     ARENA simulation training guideline for assembly line

    As a beginner for the unfamiliar software such as Arena Simulation, it is very tough when we need to do a simple model by referring to the textbooks or journal articles that contains a lot of difficult words to understand. Therefore, a guideline was created to solve this problem that contains simple wordings, more infographic and the simple step by step procedures that are easy to follow, understand and to help the users. The purpose of the study was to build a training guideline for modeling an assembly line by using Arena Simulation, to build a model representing the assembly process using the training guide, and analyze the simulation result for the assembly line model. The study was conducted using Arena Simulation software. The data was collected based on the actual model to be inserted into the system setting for validation purposes. The model was created with 32 hours replications length to achieve accuracy in the result. The difference between the actual and simulation model must be below 5% percent to said the model is valid. To verify the guideline is applicable we build another example of the model and compared the simulation result with the actual simulation data from the textbook. To validate the model, we calculated the percentage difference between the actual and simulation model results. This simulation finding indicated that the guideline is suitable to be used as a learning tool and reference for users to model an assembly line. To conclude, this project has successfully provide a basic guideline for modelling an assembly line using Arena software and there is still a lot of rooms for future improvement

    Sustainable development: A Malaysian perspective

    Sustainable development is all the rage. Malaysian firms too have been quick to jump into the bandwagon, especially with regards to their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. However, sustainable development has been increasingly interpreted from a strictly Western-centric value system.This may pose challenges to Malaysian firms as they adopt sustainable practices into their operations.Four key issues are presented and discussed, particularly in relation to Malaysian’s socioeconomic landscape.Following that, this paper calls for a return to the fundamentals of sustainable development, which is unfettered to value suppositions and instead focused on more pragmatic reasons.To that end, this paper proceeds to make recommendations of a more suitable approach in embracing sustainable development in Malaysia that would bring about a virtuous cycle of enrichment for the business sector as well as the society

    This study aims to determine the legal basis and procedures for the determination of states allow surrogate guardian when the guardian has the right to marry declared adhal/reluctant and legal consequences of the determination of trustees adhal/reluctant. The research method using normative legal research or descriptive doctrinal study. Methods of data analysis using interactive analysis model, which is a process of analysis by using three components consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and then concluding that shape interactive activity is a cyclical process. Based on the research results we concluded that the procedures for the determination of a replacement trustee to trustee adhal carried out in the trial that includes the calling parties litigant by a religious court, the peace efforts by the judges, the reading of a letter of application, examination proceedings, and the reading of the result of the determination of the panel of judges.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang, Faktor-faktor pendorong para perempuan berdagang pada malam hari, kondisi ekonomi, aktifitas, serta keamanan dan kesehatan para perempuan pedagang pada malam hari di pasar Legi kota Surakarta. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam, observasi dan dokumentasi. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data yaitu dengan pedoman wawancara, pedoman observasi dan telaah dokumentasi. Untuk menguji keabsahan datanya dengan cara triangulasi, khususnya triangulasi sumber data dan triangulasi pengumpulan data, sedangkan untuk menganalisis data menerapan model analisis interaktif malalui proses pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa dari para pedagang yang menggelar dagangannya pada malam hari di pasar Legi kota Surakarta adalah kebanyakan para perempuan. Pekerjaan para perempuan sebagai pedagang pada malam hari dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor anatara lain faktor ekonomi yang rendah, adanya dorongan dari keluarga, keinginan untuk mandiri dan kondisi waktu. Perempuan yang bekerja sebagai pedagang pada malam hari telah menunjukkan bahwa perempuan memiliki perspektif gender dalam hak mendapat pekerjaan, tidak tersubornasi oleh hak laki-laki. Para perempuan melakukan aktifitas bedagang pada malam hari di pasar Legi kota Surakarta merupakan memiliki latar belakang yang berbeda-beda dan berasal dari berbagai daerah yang berbeda juga, baik yang berasal dari dalam maupun luar kota Surakarta. Para perempuan menggelar dagangannya mulai dari jam 17:00 sampai jam 08:00. Barang dagangan yang dijual belikan beraneka macam antara lain yaitu, sayuran, roti, daging, nasi dan kebutuhan pokok lainnya

    AbstractGeometry plays a dominant role in thermal situations within city structures. This study aims to seek how this role affects thermal comfort of the visitors in an urban square. Computer simulations were performed along with physical measurements in an urban square during peak hot conditions of summer in Isfahan, Iran. In addition to the influence of built environment inside the square, the results confirmed the role of geometry on thermal conditions. The amelioration effect for the aspect ratio was higher than that of the orientation. Findings are useful for urban design strategies dealing with thermal comfort

    Impacts of Courtyard Geometrical Configurations on Energy Performance of Buildings

    The courtyard is an architectural design element often regarded as microclimate modifiers.  It has the potential of improving comfort conditions within the outdoor courtyard space and the enclosing indoor spaces. Harnessing the optimum benefits of courtyards depends on several conditions namely the orientation and configurations of the courtyards, as well as the treatment of the external surfaces of the enclosing building envelopes. As three variables of orientation, number of floors and wall envelope have not been investigated in a single study, therefore, this parametric study was performed to investigate the microclimatic influence of varying courtyard geometric configurations and its enclosing facades in hot and humid climate using IES<VE> simulation tools.  The study observed the environmental impact regarding thermal performance and energy consumption of the enclosing indoor spaces.  The results suggest optimum conditions to harness the potential of courtyards to lower energy consumption of buildings in the tropics.Keywords: courtyard; thermal performance; energy consumption; simulationeISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Meningkatkan pemahaman isi wacana melalui penerapan model Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) siswa kelas V SD Negeri Jipangan II Banyudono Tahun Ajaran 2012/2013. Jenis penelitian pada penelitian ini adalah PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas). Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V SD Negeri Jipangan II Banyudono yang berjumlah 18 siswa(9 siswa laki-laki dan 9 siswa perempuan). Obyek penelitian ini adalah pemahaman isi wacana dan model Cooperative Integrated Reading and composition (CIRC). Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, tes, dokementasi dan wawancara. Untuk menjamin validitas data, digunakan teknik triangulasi. Teknik tiangulasi yang digunakan adalah triangulasi sumber dan metode. Teknik triangulasi sumber adalah teknik pengumpulan data yang berupa informasi dari guru, dan siswa tentang tindakan yang diterapkan. Triangulasi metode digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dari hasil observasi dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan analisis interaktif yang terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman isi wacana. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari tahap sebelum tindakan diperoleh rata-rata siswa adalah 57,27 dan jumlah siswa yang mencapai KKM (≥65) adalah 5 siswa atau 27,77%. Pada siklus I rata-rata nilai meningkat menjadi 68,8 dan jumlah siswa yang mencapai KKM (≥65) adalah 12 siswa atau 66.66%, dan pada siklus II ratarata nilai meningkat menjadi 76,61 sedangkan jumlah siswa yang mencapai KKM (≥65) adalah 16 siswa atau 88.89%. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) dapat meningkatkan pemahaman isi wacana pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia
