La ocupación de Irak en el año 2003 marcó un antes y un después en la política global y en las relaciones internacionales de todos los países, sobre todo de aquellos que formaban parte de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas. Este conflicto fue un ejemplo de mediatización de la guerra y de una propaganda política bastante agresiva por parte de todos los países que formaron parte de él. Sin embargo, las razones que llevaron a Estados Unidos a atacar Irak pasaron durante años por el filtro de la sospecha en un ambiente turbulento y acongojado por los ataques terroristas del 11 de Septiembre. Tras años de una relación inestable entre la nación iraquí y los Estados Unidos, miles de civiles fueron víctimas del conflicto, generando una ola de protestas pacifistas a lo largo y ancho del mundo. España fue uno de los protagonistas del enfrentamiento como aliado estadounidense bajo el Gobierno de Aznar. La opinión pública española nunca le perdonó las mentiras en su gestión tras los ataques terroristas posteriores del 11 de Marzo, y algunos medios generalistas únicamente parecieron servir de altavoz a las declaraciones de los políticos. Muchos expertos en la temática manifiestan que existió una importante manipulación de la información por parte de los gobiernos y medios occidentales, también en España. Estudio de nuevos materiales para el reconocimiento sigiloso

En vista a las nuevas necesidades actuales del Ejército de Tierra Español y, más específicamente, dentro de la especialidad fundamental de caballería este Trabajo de Fin de Grado pretende, a través de una metodología diseñada específicamente para el mismo, realizar una comparativa entre cuatro vehículos de reconocimiento sigiloso existentes en la actualidad en ejércitos de distintas naciones, para obtener las características de un vehículo óptimo para el reconocimiento sigiloso dentro de las opciones disponibles en el mercado. El presente trabajo consta de una descripción razonada inicial de todos los factores que se evaluarán. A continuación, se realizará una valoración de los vehículos, describiendo sus capacidades y sus sistemas disponibles. Por último, se obtiene una valoración global de cada vehículo en base a una ecuación propuesta. El uso de esta ecuación permitirá realizar una clasificación ordenada de todos los vehículos.<br /

Biodetection Techniques for Quantification of Chemokines

Chemokines are a class of cytokine whose special properties, together with their involvement and relevant role in various diseases, make them a restricted group of biomarkers suitable for diagnosis and monitoring. Despite their importance, biodetection techniques dedicated to the selective determination of one or more chemokines are very scarce. For some years now, the critical diagnosis of inflammatory diseases by detecting both cytokine and chemokine biomarkers, has had a strong impact on the development of multiple detection platforms. However, it would be desirable to implement methodologies with a higher degree of selectivity for chemokines, in order to provide more precise information. In addition, better development of biosensor technology applied to this specific field would make it possible to address the main challenges of detection methods for several diseases with a high incidence in the population, avoiding high costs and low sensitivity. La Musa Blanca. Una sede para la colección nacional de reproducciones artísticas

Producción CientíficaEn 2011, pasó a formar parte del Museo Nacional de Escultura la colección del Museo Nacional de Reproducciones Artísticas, una colección de más de 3.000 piezas que, por su calidad, abundancia y antigüedad, está valorada como una de las mejores de Europa. Desde febrero de 2012, el museo presenta en su nueva sede de la Casa del Sol una selección de obras maestras de la Antigüedad clásica. Se trata de copias valiosas en sí mismas por varios motivos: son centenarias y están realizadas en los mejores talleres europeos; nos instruyen sobre la técnica milenaria del vaciado, compleja y perfecta; ilustran la historia del gusto europeo y nos permiten comprender que el antagonismo original/copia es un fenómeno lleno de paradojas.In 2011, the National Museum of Artistic Reproductions' collection became part of the National Museum of Sculpture. Electrochemical Immunosensor for Simultaneous Determination of Emerging Autoimmune Disease Biomarkers in Human Serum †

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by persistent erosive synovitis, systemic inflammation and the presence of autoantibodies, which play an important role in inducing inflammation and joint damage, releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines from monocytes and macrophages [1,2]. Likewise, neutrophil activating protein-2 (CXCL7) is a platelet-derived growth factor belonging to the CXC chemokine subfamily, which is expressed in serum, synovial fluid and synovial tissue of patients developing rheumatoid arthritis during the first twelve weeks, being useful to reflect local pathological changes [3]. Besides, matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), which is induced by inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in rheumatoid synovium, degrades several extracellular matrix components of cartilage and plays central roles in rheumatoid joint destruction [4]. Therefore, monitoring serum CXCL7 and MMP-3 levels is useful for predicting the disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis. In this work, the construction and analytical performance of a dual electrochemical platform for the simultaneous determination of CXCL7 and MMP-3 is described. After the optimization of experimental variables involved in the preparation and implementation of the biosensor, the analytical usefulness of the developed configuration was demonstrated by its application to the determination of these biomarkers in serum samples from healthy individuals and patients with rheumatoid arthritis. To carry out the simultaneous determination of CXCL7 and MMP3 in human serum, just a fifty-fold sample dilution in PBS of pH 7.4 was required. In addition, the results obtained using the dual immunosensor were compared with those provided by the respective ELISA immunoassays, yielding no significant differences between the two methods. It is important to highlight that reagents consumption, four times smaller using the dual immunosensor than that required in the ELISA protocol, and an assay time of 2 h 50 min versus almost 5 h, counted in both cases after incubation of the capture antibody, are advantageous features of the dual immunosensor [5].Depto. de Química AnalíticaFac. de Ciencias QuímicasTRUEMinisterio de Ciencia, Innovación y UniversidadesComunidad de Madridpu
