Objective: To compare the cytotoxicity level of a new calcium silicate-based resin cement (TheraCem) with two commonly used cements, including a conventional self-adhesive resin cement (Panavia SA) and a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (FujiCem2), on the human gingival fibroblast cells after 24 and 48 hours. Material and Methods: Twelve discs of each cement type were fabricated. The extract of cement disks was made by incubating them in the cell medium. Human gingival fibroblast cells were cultured and exposed to cement extracts for 24 h and 48 h. MTT assay was performed on extracts and optical density and cell viability rates were calculated by the spectrophotometer device at 570 nm. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. Results: The cell viability rates after 24 hours and 48 hours were as follows: TheraCem: 89.24% and 85.46%, Panavia SA: 49.51% and 46.57% and FujiCem2: 50.63% and 47.36%. TheraCem represented the highest cell viability rate. However, no significant difference was noted between Panavia SA and FujiCem2. Time had no significant effect on cell viability. Conclusion: TheraCem exhibited the best results among three tested cements and was considered non-toxic. Panavia SA and FujiCem2 were not significantly different regarding the cell viability rate. Time had no significant effect on the cytotoxicity level of cements

The role of long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs in cervical cancer: modulating miRNA function

    Get PDF
Cervical cancer (CC) is a primary global health concern, ranking as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Despite advancements in prognosis, long-term outcomes remained poor. Beyond HPV, cofactors like dietary deficiencies, immunosuppression, hormonal contraceptives, co-infections, and genetic variations are involved in CC progression. The pathogenesis of various diseases, including cancer, has brought to light the critical regulatory roles of microRNAs (miRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs). The aberrant expression of these miRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs plays a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of CC. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent literature regarding the involvement of lncRNAs and circRNAs in modulating miRNA functions in cervical neoplasia and metastasis. Studies have shown that lncRNAs and circRNAs hold great potential as therapeutic agents and innovative biomarkers in CC. However, more clinical research is needed to advance our understanding of the therapeutic benefits of circRNAs and lncRNAs in CC

Background and Objectives: Patellofemoral pain syndrome is one of the most common disabilities among women. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of Thera-band exercises on pain, range of motion, and function of nurses with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Methods and Materials: Thirty female nurses with patellofemoral pain syndrome were selected from the statistical population and divided into two groups of control and practice. After selecting subjects based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, in a pre-test, pain with visual analog scale, range of motion with a universal goniometer, and function with KOOS questioner were measured. Then the training group performed their Thera-band exercises for 8 weeks and in 3 sessions in a week. The control group was also prevented from doing any exercise program and they were only allowed to do their daily activities. Then all the tests that were taken in the pre-test phase, were measured in the post-test again. Paired t-test and independent t-test were used for statistical analysis of the results. In all statistical analyzes, alpha was smaller than 0.05. Results: The results of eight weeks of Thera-band exercises showed a reduction of the pain and induced an improvement of function in the subject of the exercise group. However, there was no significant difference between the post-test knee flexion range and pre-test in any of the study groups that indicates that the Thera-band exercises do not affect the range of motion of the knee flexion. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is recommended that women with patellofemoral pain syndrome use Thera-band exercises to reduce their pain. Besides, the Thera-band exercises can be introduced to these individuals as an appropriate solution to improve their performance. How to cite this article: Mazhari-Abbasi F, Tabatabaei H.
