Crisis of biographical methodology in russian science and criticism of 1920-1930

In this article the basic tendency in the comprehension of the biographical meaningfulness of fictional works by Russian literary scholars and critics, who lived in the period 1920-1930 is considered. By that time side by side with the radical biographical method of the M.O. Gershenson’s school there existed the antibiographical approach to fictional works, which was developed by formalists and was radical too. V.M. Zhirmunsky and B.V. Diffraction efficiency of photothermoplastic layers for the recording of discrete holograms

An experimental and theoretical study of the dependence of eta of a digital phase Fourier hologram of a point object on the amount of deformation delta and the discrete-structure parameters representing the hologram is detailed. An expression is given for eta. Experiments were performed on photothermoplastic layers based on polyvinyl carbazole and trinitrofluorenone charge transfer complexes. The maximum eta, 2%, is found at delta = 0.56 micron

Palladium-bismuth intermetallic and surface-poisoned catalysts for the semi-hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol

The effects of poisoning of Pd catalysts with Bi and annealing in a polyol (ethylene glycol) were studied on the semi-hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (MBY). An increase in the Pd:Bi ratio from 7 to 1 in the Bi-poisoned catalysts decreased the hydrogenation activity due to blocking of active sites, but increased maximum alkene yield from 91.5% for the Pd catalyst to 94–96% for all Bi-poisoned Pd catalysts, by decreasing the adsorption energy of alkene molecules and suppressing the formation of β-hydride phase. Annealing of the catalysts induced the formation of intermetallic phases and decreased its activity due to sintering of the catalytic particles and low activity of intermetallic compounds. Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetic modelling of the experimental data showed that poisoning of Pd with Bi changed the relative adsorption constants of organic species suggesting ligand effects at high Bi content

'Inductive' electronegativity scale: 2. 'Inductive' analog of chemical hardness

On the basis of a previously suggested approach to the calculation of 'inductive' electronegativities of atoms and groups a simple method of theoretical estimation of in situ inductive electronegativities is elaborated. The method also allows the determination of inductive local and global chemical hardness parameters on the basis of geometric characteristics of bonded atoms. This made it possible to provide a new 'steric' interpretation for some known chemical rules, such as the principle of maximum hardness. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V

Inductive effect of substituents in the correlation analysis. The problem of quantitative estimation

Systematisation and analysis of the literature data concerning quantitative estimation of inductive interaction of functional groups in organic and organoelement compounds have been carried out. The data of own autor's works devoted to elaboration of new model of inductive effect which permits to calculate theoretically the inductive constants of various substituents at any reactive centers are generalised. The possibility of using the elaborated approach to solve some important theoretical questions connected with the problem of inductive effect, such as inductive influence in organoelement compounds and inductive effect of alkyl groups, is also discussed
