Shape Factors and Entrainment Coefficients in Inclined Thermal Model

The model of inclined thermal includes the various shape factors and the constitutive relationships. The shape factors, i.e. the ratio of the thermal area to the square of the maximum height, the ratio of the thermal perimeter to the maximum height and the ratio of the thermal length to the maximum height are considered to be functions of the slope angle. These factors are estimated by the experimental results of the area, the perimeter and the length of a thermal. The entrainment coefficients are also estimated by the various methods. The entrainment coefficients are seemed to be a function of the slope angle and also a function of the Richardson number. Finally the numerical analysis using the conservative thermal model are carried out. The numerical results can explain the experimental results well

Seventy one patients with renal cell carcinomas were examined for a variety of markers associated with tumor malignancy: nuclear DNA ploidy, AgNORs, PCNA and c-erbB-2. Usefulness of the markers in predicting the prognosis was studied by analyzing the relationship between each of these markers and the prognosis of the patients with renal cell carcinomas. DNA ploidy was analyzed by flow cytometry. AgNORs were stained by the silver colloid method. PCNA and c-erbB-2 were detected by immunohistochemistry. In all the patients examined, DNA ploidy, AgNORs, PCNA and c-erbB-2 were significant predictors of the prognosis. Of the patients with grade 2 carcinomas, the survival rate was significantly higher in the patients with the PCNA-positive cells of lower than 35.0% than in those with the positive cells of more than 35.0%. The patients without the expression of c-erbB-2 exhibited a significantly higher survival rate than those with the expression. In the patients with grade 2 carcinomas, however, neither DNA ploidy nor AgNoRs was a significant predictor of the prognosis. These findings suggest that PCNA and c-erbB-2 provide more accurate information than the others to understand the biological characteristics of the grade 2 carcinomas and are useful in predicting the prognosis of the patients with grade 2 renal cell carcinomas

The properties of eye movements evoked by cerebellar microstimulation were investigated in alert, encephale isole cats. Repetitive stimuli (20-500 Hz, 20-500 μA) were applied to the vermis, lobules V-VII with tungsten microelectrodes. Horizontal and vertical DC-EOGs were recorded with a rectigraph. In many cases, the evoked eye movements were also recorded two-dimensionally with an XY-recorder. We analyzed the dependence of the evoked eye movements on the stimulus parameter, stimulus sites and initial eye positions. 1) Two types of eye movements, saccades and smooth eye movements were evoked. The sites for the lowest stimulus threshold (about 20 μA) were both in the Purkinje cell layer and the deep layer of the white matter. The types of the evoked eye movements were not dependent upon the stimulus sites. Directions of the evoked eye movements were contingent on the stimulus sites. Horizontal eye movements were evoked by the stimulation of the lobule VI. The eye movements evoked by the stimulation of the lobule V and VII contained predominantly upward and downward components respectively. Straight upward and downward eye movements were induced by the stimulation of the midline vermis. 2) The velocity and amplitude of the evoked eye movements were not dependent on the stimulus parameters. The peak velocities of saccades increased in proportion to the amplitude of the evoked eye movements. The amplitude of the evoked eye movements depended upon the initial positions of the eye in the orbit, and the evoked eye movements tended to reach the same final goal in the orbit regardless of initial eye positions. 3) Such goal-directed eye movements were evoked in 80% of all the stimulus sites. In 70% of those sites the movements were goal-directed both horizontally and vertically. In the remaining 30% the movements were goal-directed either horizontally or vertically. The eccentricities of the goal positions increased with stimulus intensity and frequency. The goal positions of the movements evoked by the simultaneous stimuli of the two different sites were obtained by vectorial addition of the two eye movements evoked by the stimulation of each site. These results may indicate that the vermis, lobules V-VII play an important role in the control of eye position in the orbit

Effect of Separation on Strengths of Thermo-Mechanical Control Process Steel(Part 1)

Recently, Thermo-Mechanical Control Process (TMCP) type 50kgf/mm2-class high-tensile steel plates are used to welded structures such as large LPG-tank, ship-hull, etc. for higher efficiency and lower cost. But, in some cases, the occurrence of "separation" in TMCP steel plate becomes a problem. Last year, it became clear that the TMCP steel plate with high maximum separation index (SImax) was excellent in brittle crack propagation-arrest characteristic. In this paper, we had studied the effect of separation on the fracture toughness and fatigue strength of TMCP steel plates. To reiterate the results written in it, they are as follows. 1) The occurrence of separation in TMCP steel plate improve its fracture toughness. 2) The fatigue strength is influenced by the angle between fatigue crack direcion and ferritepearlite layers in the steel plate with separation appearance

A novel synthesis of naphtoh[2,1-d]oxazol-5-ol, a model compound for the benzoxazole moiety of marine natural products nakijinols A and B, was achieved in five steps in 35% overall yield starting from commercially available 2-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone. The synthesis involved the following crucial steps: ⅰ reduction of an N-Boc-protected 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquione; ⅱ protection of the resulting 2-aminohydronaphthoquinone as its diformate form; ⅲ a simultaneous N-Boc-deprotection and cyclization of the resulting diformate to construct an oxazole ring
