P(論文)In the field of instructed second language acquisition, there has been a shift from teacher-centered lessons to learner-centered ones aimed at making English classes more communicative and interactive. Consequently, much attention has been devoted to cooperative learning, which involves various aspects of social interaction, and peer learning, and is an efficient way to develop students’ motivation and autonomy. In this paper, I will first provide a selective literature review on cooperative learning, discussing its types, principles, elements, and role in developing social skills and fostering a positive classroom atmosphere. This review will be based on the works of Johnson and Johnson (1999), Slavin (1983), Jacobs and Inn (2003), Murphey and Jacobs (2000), Jacobs et al. (2002), and Kagan and Kagan (2021). The literature review section will also examine the effect of cooperative learning in the Japanese context, drawing on the works of Taomae et al. (2012), Kanamaru et al. (2013), and Myskowet al. (2018), whose examples demonstrate that cooperative learning is a valuable tool for organizing English communicative courses. Next, I will present my pedagogical implications by sharing one of my teaching journals and outlining communicative activity based on cooperative learning, which I used during English Communication class for my second-year students. In conclusion, I will explore the implementation of cooperative learning principles in the English for Global Communication course The Principles of Cooperative Learning to be Applied in an English for Global Communication Course and the potential for incorporating Kagan’s cooperative learning structures, which emphasize social skills such as interaction and communication.departmental bulletin pape
