Investigation of the preservation problems of the Mescid and Türbe of Akşebe Sultan in Alanya
Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Architectural Restoration, Izmir, 2010Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 69-71)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishxii, 146 leavesThe monument selected to be studied is a Seljuk building composed of a masjid and a türbeh located in the inner fortress of Alanya which was an important settlement during Anatolian Seljuk Period. The aim of the study is the documentation of the building by examining its architectural characteristics and construction techniques, to reveal its missing or altered parts and elements, to determine its structural and material problems occurred by the interventions carried out in the past and to propose solutions to sustain it with its original properties as much as possible. For this purpose, existing conditions, alterations, construction techniques and materials that form the building were determined by measured drawings and observations through fieldwork. For the restitution scheme, other masjids and turbehs of the same period have been evaluated in the light of the information obtained from the literature and archival research. Comparison of Akşebe Sultan with the other Anatolian Seljuk masjids has also been done for the missing and altered parts of the building for a reliable restitution scheme. The building was subjected to some interventions in the past and lost many of its original features. Due to the difficulties in finding reliable information about previous interventions, a restitution-based restoration proposal could not be proposed. Instead, long term studies and minimum interventions are proposed to prolong its life and to save original properties of the monument
Assessment of Prospective Science Teachers’ Metacognition and Creativity Perceptions and Scientific Toys in Terms of Scientific Creativity
AbstractCreativity is a talent. On the other hand, opportunities should be given starting from young ages for its appearance and development. Creativity should be described as skills that involve working alone and cooperatively, giving time for listening, thinking and focusing, acting seriously when facing problems (Dağlıoğlu, 2010). The fundamentals for the development of scientific creativity can be defined as “a secure place, physiological freedom, a discipline that frees the person, intellectual argumentation methods, thinking of critical and creative thinking, authentic assessment” (Duman, 2009). A need, a necessity or desire for solving a problem comes forward in scientific creativity (Terzioğlu, 1993, cit. by Aktamış and Ergin, 2006). Hu and Adey (2002) define scientific creativity as a process that consists of imagination, thinking, fluency, flexibility, originality, scientific knowledge, scientific problem, scientific fact and technical product components. The aim of the study is to assess prospective science teachers’ metacognition and creativity perceptions and scientific toys in terms of scientific creativity. The qualitative and quantitative data gathered from the study were assessed comparatively with each other. The quantitative data were shown with percentages as well as qualitative data gathered from scientific toys were assessed in terms of scientific creativity dimensions: “fluency, flexibility, originality and scientific knowledge”. The results are shown in terms of four dimensions of scientific creativity for prospective science teachers’ metacognition and creativity perceptions and scientific toys as a result of qualitative and quantitative data of the study. In the light of these results, recommendations were made for researchers
An Associational research on Turkish children’s environmentally responsible behaviors, nature relatedness, and motive concerns
Science education has changed in recent decades with respect to key issues faced in this century. These issues such as renewable energy,
waste management, air quality, and biodiversity require dealing with the transition toward a sustainable future. Thus, to contribute to the
reconceptualization of science education in a developing country, the present study aimed to assess (1) Turkish middle school students’
environmentally responsible behaviors, nature relatedness (NR), and motive concerns and (2) the power of environmental motive
concerns, and NR in predicting the related behaviors. Measuring tools covering the NR scale, the environmental motive concerns, and
children’s responsible environmental behavior scale were administered to middle school students in the Northern part of Turkey. The
results indicated that these students reflected an external nature-related worldview. Regarding their behaviors, it was revealed that the
students frequently engaged in some actions linked to physical and economic contribution to the environmental quality. However, they
did not demonstrate any actions on political commitment although they were very concerned about the environmental issues. Examining
the predictors of their responsible environmental behaviors, a linear combination of these attributes significantly contributed to explaining
such behaviors. This study provided practical tips for science and sustainability educators in that children could be provided with some
opportunities to get in touch with nature and appreciate the value of being in nature
An Inquiry Concerning the Characterıstics of the Creative Person
This study was conducted with the participation of 20 pre-service science teachers. The study aims to examine pre-service science teachers’ views on the characteristics of the creative person. The data collected was analyzed by coding the answers. It was found that pre-service teachers mostly identified the following characteristics as the characteristics of a creative person: ‘thinks/interprets differently/originally’, ‘curious’, ‘enjoys research’, ‘has imagination’, ‘observant’, ‘self-confident’, ‘questions/enjoys questioning’, ‘sociable, not shy’, ‘open to new ideas’, ‘knowledgeable’, ‘farsighted’, ‘enjoys exploration’, ‘patient’, ‘enjoys learning’, ‘open to criticism’, and ‘talented’. These descriptions indicate that the creative person is considered to have a very wide and varied range of characteristics. This does not mean, however, that a creative person needs to have all of these characteristics at once. Keywords: creative personality characteristics, creativity, science educatio
A Comparatıve Look at the Concepts of Creatıvıty and Scıentıfıc Creatıvıty
This study was conducted with the participation of 32 pre-service science teachers attending the second year of a faculty of education in a Turkish university. Participants were asked two open-ended questions, the reliability of which was established by the two researchers. The main problem of the study concerns pre-service science teachers’ definitions of the concepts of creativity and scientific creativity. It was found that pre-service science teachers’ definitions of the two concepts were on the whole similar to those provided in the relevant literature, but the there were also missing points, especially in the definition of scientific creativity. Keywords: creativity, scientific creativity, science education, pre-service teacher

67 A 90 numaralı (on birinci cilt), 1077-1078 (1667-1667) tarihli Kadıasker Defteri’ne göre Kırım’da sosyal ve ekonomik hayat
06.03.2018 tarihli ve 30352 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan “Yükseköğretim Kanunu İle Bazı Kanun Ve Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun” ile 18.06.2018 tarihli “Lisansüstü Tezlerin Elektronik Ortamda Toplanması, Düzenlenmesi ve Erişime Açılmasına İlişkin Yönerge” gereğince tam metin erişime açılmıştır.Osmanlı Devleti'nde yerel tarih alanında birinci el kaynak teşkil eden kadı sicilleri, kaydedildiği dönemin ve coğrafyanın sosyo-ekonomik yapısının analiz edilmesine katkı sağlamaktadır. Araştırmada şer 'iyye sicillerin önemi üzerinde durularak yerel tarih açısından analizi yapılmıştır. Şer'i mahkemelerde tutulan bu kayıtlar, bölge halkının günlük yaşamına, bölgenin demografik yapısına, halkın ekonomik uğraşlarına dair bilgiler ortaya koymaktadır. Kadı registers, which were the first hand resources in the field of local history in Ottoman Empire, contribute to the analysis of the socio-economic structure of the period and geography in which it was recorded. In this study, the importance of the records was examined and analyzed in terms of local history. These registers, which were kept in the courts, reveal information about the daily life of people of the region, the demographic structure of the region and the economic interests of the people. This study emerged after the transcription of the Kadi'asker notebook, which was written in Crimea, in 1667, and evaluation of the data from this notebook. For this purpose, from the notebook that shows diversity in terms of content, evaluations were made about the administrative structure of Crimea; the organism of the family; marriage; divorce; social dimensions of slavery; economic occupation of the people; the unit of measurement and scale, and currencies; the position of women in social life, and professional status of people. In addition, with Crimea's fall under hegemony of Ottoman Empire, the influence of Ottoman justice departments on the region is important in terms of illuminating the period in the administrative, local, social, and economic areas of Crimea. This study also provides detailed information on the demographic structure of Crimea which has a cosmopolitan characteristic, and the relationships between religious and ethnic groups. It is seen that the institution of slavery comes to the forefront in the court registers in which social life of the period was reflected. Crimea had a significant place in the point of procuring slaves for Anatolian geography. For this reason, kadi registers have importance in the analysis of the slavery institution in terms of social life
Removal of naproxen and diclofenac using magnetic nanoparticles/nanocomposites
Magnetic iron oxide and iron/copper nanoparticles were synthesized using Lathyrus brachypterus extract, and then magnetic Fe3O4–CS, Fe3O4–AT, Fe/Cu–CS and Fe/Cu–AT nanocomposite beads were synthesized using chitosan and alginate natural polymers. They were used for both adsorption and heterogeneous catalysts for the catalytic wet peroxidation (CWPO) of naproxen (NPX), diclofenac (DCF) and NPX + DCF drugs which are important micro-organic pollutants, separately and together (NPX + DCF) from aqueous media. In adsorption studies, the drugs were adsorbed very quickly in the first minutes and then, desorbed in between 8 and 10 min. In competitive adsorption, the adsorbents showed selective properties for DCF and NPX. In CWPO technique, drug removal was achieved in 9 min with a conversion capacity of 92% for DCF with Fe/Cu–CS and 84% for NPX with Fe/Cu–AT optimum experimental conditions, such as pH 5, 30% of H2O2, 100 mg catalyst and 298 K. Based on reusability of the catalysts, it was seen that there was a slight decrease in the removal efficiencies in the third cycle and the stable and active structure of the catalyst was preserved to the desired extent. Furthermore, the oxidation reaction was in good agreement with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model.
