Abstract in UndeterminedObjective – To investigate whether Web 2.0 can enhance participation in institutional repositories (IRs) and whether its widespread use can lead to success in this context. Another purpose was to emphasize how an IR with a Web 2.0 approach can connect individuals in their creative and intellectual outputs, no matter what form of shared material is contributed.Design – Comparative study.Setting –Two IRs at Teachers College, Columbia University, which is a graduate and professional school of education in New York City.Subjects – Students, faculty, and staff using the PocketKnowledge and CPC IRs.Methods – Cocciolo compared two different IRs called PocketKnowledge and Community Program Collections (CPC). PocketKnowledge had the following Web 2.0 design patterns: users control their own data; users should be trusted; flexible tags are preferred over hierarchical taxonomies; the attitude should be playful

This article highlights the importance of communication and collaboration with units outside the library to make self-archiving attractive to authors. The monthly electronic publication, Lund Virtual Medical Journal (LVMJ), published by the Department of Strategic Communication of the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, started as a response to the need to increase the visibility of ongoing research by the Lund University faculty, and with the aim of showing all published faculty-authored articles. At the time the journal was launched, Lund University Libraries Head Office had set up their institutional repository for the university, LU:research. This article describes features of LVMJ and the synergistic relationship between LU:research and LVMJ. It also discusses some of the challenges in producing LVMJ and future plans for the journal

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of creative drama on student achievement in the Information Technologies course. The study was carried out for the unit “Tomorrow’s Technology” which is the first unit of Information Technologies course. For this study, 89 sixth grade students were selected from primary school in academic year of 2012-2013. The pre- and post-test control group research model was used in this study. The experimental and control group randomly formed. Students were randomized to three groups: experimental 1 group (28 students), experimental 2 group (30 students) and control group (31 students). In experimental 1 group, course were lectured using creative drama method. In experimental 2 group, course were lectured with computer based, the course were lectured by using only the Information Technologies course curriculum in control group. An achievement test used to collect data were developed by the researcher. According to the result of the study, it was seen that using Creative Drama in Information Technologies Course created a positive effect on students’ achievement. Considering these result, some suggestions were presented

In the molecule of the title compound, C14H12FNO2, the aromatic rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 48.17 (1)°. An intramolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bond results in the formation of a six-membered ring. The title molecule is a phenol–imine tautomer, as evidenced by the C—O [1.351 (3) Å], C—N [1.282 (3) Å], and C—C [1.416 (3)–1.445 (3) Å] bond lengths. In the crystal, molecules are linked by intermolecular C—Hâ‹ŻÏ€ interactions

Civic space in Turkey: a social capital approach to civil society

    Get PDF
The present study explores civil society organizations’ (CSOs) civic and political potential in Turkey. For this purpose, it generates original data from Antalya and utilizes social network analysis to analyze the CSOs’ cooperation structure. The analysis points out certain levels of dynamism and diversity in terms of the CSOs’ cooperative connections. Yet it also shows variance between the publicgoods oriented Putnam-type CSOs and the special-interest oriented Olsontype CSOs in terms of their civic and political potential. This observed variance, in turn, is likely to influence their respective potential to articulate common interests on the one hand, to affect politics on the other hand.No sponso

Discussion networks in Turkey: a social capital approach to informal social relations

    Get PDF
The present study inquires into the informal social network underpinnings of generalized trust in Turkey. For this purpose, it utilizes survey data on Turkish discussion networks. The findings show that informal social relations in Turkey are mostly composed of nonkinship relations, which serve as an important bridge across diverse social groups. The socio-economic cleavages of age and education, however, are found to be important filters through which both kinship and non-kinship relations influence generalized trust. Overall, the analysis affirms the relationship between individuals’ socialization experiences and generalized trust. However, the influence of diverse social relations is not uniform and is much more complicated than is hypothesized in the social capital literature. No sponso

Use of language learning strategies can play a very important role on the way to gain success and learner autonomy in language learning. They can be more powerful learning tools provided that they are chosen properly according to the situations language learners will be faced with. For learners’ to receive strategy training is very important in helping them with tackling the language situations they will encounter. Use of learning strategies serves as an effective way for learners to overcome such difficulties. According to Willliams and Burden (1997), use of appropriate language learning strategies has a vital contribution to make to language learning success, which underlines the significance of the incorporation of strategy training in teaching a foreign language. The present study had two main purposes. Firstly, it aimed to investigate the effects of vocabulary strategy training on vocabulary learning and, secondly, it aimed to investigate the effects of vocabulary strategy training on learner autonomy at intermediate level in the preparatory classes of a foundation university. Publisher's Versio

Since 2002, the Library & ICT Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, has been assigned to support researchers in the scientific communication process at the faculty. One of the services offered to authors in this context is aimed at making their final products—articles that have been accepted, peer reviewed, and published by any journal—available through open access on the Internet. Implementation of the Bibliofil tool has facilitated the work that is done by the library staff in this process
