Ostwald Ripening in Two Dimensions: Treatment with Pairwise Interactions

We present a systematic extension of mean field models for Ostwald ripening in two dimensions. We derived, using a mean field type approximation, an analytic expression for pairwise interactions between the minority phase droplets. These interactions appear in dynamic equations for the droplets' radii and positions, which are solved numerically for systems of tens of thousands of droplets, yielding very good agreement with recent experiments.Comment: 4 pages, RevTex, 3 eps figure

Production in advance versus production to order

    Get PDF
We use a theoretical framework to compare production-in-advance type and production-to-order type environments. Carrying out our analysis in the framework of a symmetric capacity-constrained Bertrand-Edgeworth duopoly game, we prove that the equilibrium prots are the same in case of production in advance and production to order. In addition, advance production results in higher prices than production to order if both games have an equilibrium in nondegenerated mixed strategies

Organic charge-transfer phase formation in thin films of the BEDT-TTF/TCNQ donor-acceptor system

We have performed charge transfer phase formation studies on the donor/acceptor system bis(ethylendithio)tetrathiafulvalene,(BEDT-TTF)/tetracyanoquinodimethane,(TCNQ) by means of physical vapor deposition. We prepared donor/acceptor bilayer structures on glass and Si(100)/SiO_2 substrates held at room temperature and analyzed the layer structures by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and focused ion beam cross sectioning before and after annealing. We found clear evidence for the formation of a charge transfer phase during the annealing procedure. For the as-grown samples we could not detect the occurrence of a charge transfer phase. X-ray diffraction indicated that the monoclinic variant of the (BEDT-TTF)-TCNQ was formed. This was further corroborated by single-source evaporation experiments from pre-reacted (BEDT-TTF)-TCNQ obtained from solution growth, and in particular from co-evaporation experiments of (BEDT-TTF)-TCNQ and TCNQ. In the course of these experiments we found that (0,l,l)-oriented BEDT-TTF layers can be prepared on alpha-Al_2O_3 (1,1,-2,0) substrates at about 100 C using (BEDT-TTF)-TCNQ as source material. We speculate that due to its high vapor pressure the TCNQ component serves as a carrier gas for BEDT-TTF vapor phase transport.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures. Staff reactions to challenging behaviour: a preliminary investigation into their development over the course of an interaction

Section A explores the insights offered by the qualitative literature to our understanding of staff responses to challenging behaviour within services for people with intellectual disabilities. The trustworthiness of the literature is examined. The studies are reviewed using the cognitive-emotional model as a guide and allowing for other themes to emerge. The review concludes with a discussion of the implications for future research and clinical practice. Section B reports on a pilot study investigating staff reactions to challenging behaviour within services for people with intellectual disabilities. This study sought to explore the development of staff cognitive, emotional and behavioural responses to challenging behaviour over the course of challenging interactions. Video elicitation interviews were conducted with six staff members responding to the challenging behaviour of two service users. Interview data were subject to content analysis and an attributional analysis in order to assess their cognitive and emotional responses as they were at the time. In addition, staff behaviour was subject to descriptive and sequential analyses to explore their relationship with cognitive-emotional variables. Results indicated that staff experienced a wide range of cognitions and emotions during challenging interactions. Cognitions varied over the course of an incident. A tentative relationship was found between internal attributions of challenging behaviour, negative emotions and verbal responses by staff. Staff members spontaneously made causal attributions of service user behaviour during challenging interactions. Rather than being a stable attribute of the staff member, attributions seem to vary to a degree across the course of an interaction. This has implications for both research and clinical practice

Social Media and the Mediating Role of Perceived Authenticity in Covert Celebrity Endorsement: Influencing Factors

    Get PDF
This thesis analyses the factors that influence the celebrity endorser’s perceived authenticity and its impact on the promoted brand in covert social media marketing. To examine consumer behaviour, the Persuasion Knowledge Model and Attribution Theory were integrated, and a theoretical framework was then developed. In total, 653 social media users were recruited to participate in the research, and structural equation modelling was conducted to test the proposed model. The results confirm that (1) activated persuasion knowledge negatively influences celebrity endorser’s perceived authenticity in covert social media marketing; (2) celebrity-brand congruity does not have a significant impact on the endorser’s perceived authenticity; (3) celebrity’s expertise positively influences the celebrity endorser’s perceived authenticity when endorsing products related to his or her area of expertise; (4) the celebrity’s perceived attractiveness has a positive impact on the celebrity’s perceived authenticity when endorsing attractiveness enhancing products covertly in social media; and (5) perceived authenticity of a celebrity endorser positively influences brand attitudes and, consequently, behavioural intentions. Both theoretical and managerial implications are drawn, suggesting directions for future studies
