An Analysis of the Antinomic Structure of the Relation of Being in Husserl and Its Political Implication
Antinomy basically as an inherent structural tension from within the reason between
rational willing toward the unconditioned and rational thinking necessarily conditioned
by the rule of understanding plays a negative role in and for Kant’s system to critically
compass reason in limiting itself within the possibility of real experience. In Husserl,
under the banner of one all-encompassing reason, antinomy takes a modified form
of an ontological incommensurability between two essentially separable regions of
being, i.e., between the ideal and the real; such ontological antinomy now takes up the
place of an apriori condition for the possibility of meaning for Husserl. Representing a
peculiar hierarchical ontological relation through which a lawful power flows, Husserlian
antinomy plays an essentially affirmative-political function. In this paper, I will analyze
the constructive antinomic structure of phenomenological being relation in contrast to
Kantian restrictive antinomy and discuss its political implication
An Observation of the Political in Husserl’s Phenomenological Critique and Subjectivity:A Schmittian Investigation
The concept and the logic of the political, the most notable Schmittian
ideas, based on the friend/enemy distinction and his thought on political theology
have been widely and critically discussed and actively appropriated with various
interpretations. On the other hand, we find that there is certain definite
momentum piercing through the theoretical structure of Husserl’s phenomenology
in general both as a form of metaphysics and as a philosophical movement, which
can also be called the political. In this circumstance, we find the Schmittian logic
of the political together with his idea of political theology specifically serviceable
for an effective visualization of the political characteristically structured in Husserl’s
system, particularly in the concepts of transcendental subjectivity and universal
critique. This paper argues that Husserl’s phenomenological critical subject is
fundamentally a politico-theological subject and is an attempt to show to what
extent and in what way Schmitt can be strategically utilized to make manifest the
politicality that we discover as something that structurally inheres in Husserlian
notion of subjectivity and critique.
The Subject of Quantum Mechanics in Comparison with Kant's Critical Subject and Husserl's Phenomenological Subject: A reinforcement of the Western metaphysical tradition or its problematization?
Traditionally the role and meaning of the knowing subject has been a salient
issue for the Western metaphysics, particularly for the modern one. The notion
of the measuring subject, corresponding more or less to the knowing subject in
the traditional metaphysical sense, whose measuring act directly interferes in the
dynamic state of being of an object, takes up a central place in the
philosophical narration of quantum mechanics. Nevertheless the possibility for
the metaphysical subject and the quantum mechanical subject to have a certain
co-relation has not been thought out in both spheres. This paper addresses and
discusses precisely that topic: How is the quantum mechanically playing subject
to relate to the metaphysical transcendental subject traditionally set out,
specifically to the Kantian subject and the Husserlian subject each? Meanwhile
it raises a question as to the so-called ‘progressive’ character of quantum
mechanics whether the quantum mechanical theory of subject ‘really’ resists the
inertia of the Western metaphysical tradition or rather inherits and faithfully
upholds it
The Wrath of Thrasymachus: A Thought on the Politics of Philosophical Praxis based on a Counter-Phenomenological Reinvestigation of the Thrasymachus-Socrates Debate in Plato’s Republic
The phenomenological vision, particularly, Husserl’s idea of critique as an infinite vocational theoria and Patočka’s as an enduring programme, view Platonic logic and Socratic act as the paradigms for a normative justification of the idea of universal science and philosophy. In light of that, the Thrasymachus-Socrates debate is interpreted as a case to testify the critical power of philosophy successfully exercised over sophistic tyrannical non-philosophy. This paper criticizes the phenomenological idealization of the Socratic victory as an ethico-teleologically anticipated success of philosophy and rewrites the defeat of Thrasymachus as a political failure in warring with philosophy during which Thrasymachus questions the legitimacy of the act of philosophizing to decide its legitimacy and thereby exposes the politics played out in that act
Facility location for a hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing system with carbon costs
This thesis addresses inventory management and facility location for a hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing system where remanufacturing lead-time is different from production lead-time. We also investigate the impact of potential government regulation for carbon emission generated by transportation on a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) network design. A two-stage optimization procedure is proposed in two cases of the different lead-times: The first stage optimizes the decisions on production and remanufacturing levels in each period based on a specific inventory management policy; the second stage optimizes the number and locations of factory, warehouse and collection centers. In a case of larger remanufacturing lead-time, the network is configured with a single plant, warehouse and collection center in the regions which minimize each investment considering the transportation cost. In the other case of larger production lead-time, the network is designed with multiple collection centers. With the consideration of the carbon emission cost, each storage facility first is located in the region closed to a plant with the highest investment, but as the emission cost increases, all facilities are centralized in the network to reduce the transportation costs. The proposed method results in lower combined costs of facility investment, holding inventory, transportation, and carbon emissions than a method that assumes equal manufacturing and remanufacturing lead-times.</p
Web based Image Authentication Using Invisible Fragile Watermark
The demand of security is getting higher in these days due to easy reproduction of digitally created multimedia data. Digital watermark is the emerging technique to embed secret information into content for copyright protection and authentication. Watermark is embedded within an image that alteration and modification to the watermarked image can be detected in a fragile watermark system. Watermark detection is blind that does not require an original image and it is invisible to avoid revealing secret information to malicious attackers. A web based image authentication method based in digital watermarking is described in this paper. It can provide more controls to image owners and conveniences to clients who want to get authenticity of image by integrating benefits of using Internet to the watermark system
